RE: Hostetler Lancair ES Build with retracts.
I'm going to have a flying buddy help me pull the canopy on Monday...I have it sanded smooth now....Maybe I'll get some really fine sandpaper tomorrow and give it that final going over.

RE: Hostetler Lancair ES Build with retracts.
No, I haven't died........I've been away from building and it's been hard getting back into it. I've done a lot of thinking on how to do this canopy.......first of all, I am going to make it very smooth by using my old standby........spackling compound.

RE: Tip-stall prone Cub
It's a shame that it is too late for a rebuild.........I have rebuilt often and have a lot of fun flying a plane that has already been crashed....I become more bold and try to do things that I wouldn't try with a nice new shiny plane.....what the heck, it has already had its' day and if it crashes (not my fault..of course) no big deal.

RE: Covering a large plane question
Century 21 fabric.........love it! I ironed on the pattern right over the white....not one bubble and I didn't punch any holes to let the air out...Just need to use the iron to put it on.

RE: Covering a large plane question
I'd do the plane in Century 21 fabric.........no bubbles when overlaying fabric.........too late for you......you already purchased a covering... Best of luck...I'm sure you will do ok.

The reason that this thread is going so slow is because I am working on a Hostetler Cessna 150 at the same time as well as doing all the household chores and yard work...getting some flying in too....

RE: Bud Nosen Aeronca Champ 1/4 Scale Plans
Maiden....absolutely no problems and trimmed perfectly, balanced perfectly too...no weight added anywhere. See....... http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7346460/anchors_7346460/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#7346460 for build ....read all the way through because I made some decisions while building that I commented on as "DON'T DO THIS". It was an easy build and quite gratifying to fly it and see it fly..

RE: Hostetler Lancair ES Build with retracts.
Make sure there is room for the slide to move freely.. Next I will drill pilot holes for the 4 screws that hold the hinge in place. The next one should be much quicker to install.

RE: Hostetler Lancair ES Build with retracts.
Continuing......... The rectangular pieces are of 1/8 inch plywood to allow for a good solid hold. I USED 30 MINUTE EPOXY TO SECURE THE PLYWOOD. YES, THERE ARE GAPS BECAUSE I DIDN'T CUT THE PLYWOOD PERFECTLY.......THAT'S WHY THEY INVENTED SPACKLING COMPOUND.........'SPECIALLY FOR BUILDERS LIKE ME.

RE: Hostetler Lancair ES Build with retracts.
It took a lot of thinking but I figured out how to put the flap mechanism into the flap. It is probably easy for those of you who have done it before. The following pictures will show my slow progression. While I was doing this I was rebuilding 2 planes that I re-kitted this past month. Have to keep them flying. So, here goes.....

Do the flaps stick out like that all the time or are they Fowler Flaps? I like both pictures.

No. Not on plans......I am just going along by instinct. I haven't drawn any plans for the flaps either.....just measure and cut..... worked on it tonight too. nothing to show for this evening...just cut and shape. Using spackling to fill the gaps. It is a fun project.
