Couldn't get it working on my Dell D620 laptop (XP SP3) ... screen kept freezing. Installed on desktop (XP SP3) and file receive from x9303 2.4 works fine. However, program blows up when I try to print. Anyone got this figured out yet? Haven't tried downloading to transmitter yet. I feel better at least having some backups of my setups. Thanks.

Oops. Color me stupid. After re-reading the instructions, I see I needed to install the software first and then the driver. I see the driver folder on my C:\drive now. I was looking for it on the CDROM. Oh well. Thanks for the quick response Ken! Steve

RE: Excelleron 90
WMB: I'm building my 3rd E90. The HS645's are perfect. No worries with the pull-pull geometries. The tubes inside the fuse handle all the routing. PM me with your email address and I'll send you a pdf copy of the Dean Pappas build article that appeared in Model Aviation in late 2005. Definitely do the upgrades suggested in the article. I also replace the LG plate with hardwood rails on the fuse and 1/4" lite ply. I use the Bolly F3A standard (carbon fiber) landing gear [product BOLFAIS], fiberglass wheel pants [BOLWPG] and quick change axles available from Precision Aero Composites (615) 220-0655 (unfortunately the don't have a website anymore) to get clearance for a 16 x 6 prop. The gear needs to be mounted about 2" forward the original gear to take account of the sweep back without effecting CG. My 2 other versions both had YS110FZ which was fantastic. I'm putting a Saito 125 in the new one. (Moved the YS110Z to another plane). Best of luck with the build. You're going to love this plane!

The instruction manual p. 58 indicates you can assign a mix to the Gear switch, but that option doesn't appear on any of the program mixes on my transmitter. I'd like to assign a throttle cut to that switch. Does anyone know how to enable this switch? Thanks.

RE: World Models Extra 300
CG of 6.5 in is in WM manual I downloaded a couple of days ago from their website. My model is a little different than indicated, as the horizontal stab is not removable, and the main wings do not attach through a bolt in the wing bottom to the wing tube. I suspect my version is older and there may be different CGs for different versions. Anyway the 5 3/4 measures to the aft of the wing tube, which I understand is a pretty safe balance point for larger scale planes. In addition, I weighed it at 16lbs 4 oz, so its on the heavy side -- about 31 oz/sq ft of wing area. Based on some literature I've found, the Moki 2.1 puts out 5 hp and 25lbs static thrust, so it looks like it'll have about 1.5:1 thrust to wt, and about 233 watts/oz --- should be plenty of power even at this wt. I'm off to the field, to dial in the Moki and do my first flight.

RE: World Models Extra 300
First Flight Report The CG of 5 3/4" (aft of wing tube) was good. 45 degree upline, no nose drop on roll to inverted. Plane flew rock solid. The heavy 16 lbs 4 oz dry weight was no problem, handling was very nice, floated nicely on landing. Had 5 short flights on it, but was having difficulty getting the Moki 2.10 tuned right (running it rich since there's only 2 gallons through it). Unfortunately, on the 6th flight I went for a go-round and lost the engine. Couldn't make it back to the field. Tore off the LG plate and crunched the right wing tip; no other damage. Not even a scratch on the cowl, spinner, or Mezjlick 20 x 8 prop. Turns out, my bisson muffler bolts had worked themselves out comletely, leaving the muffler hanging by the vent tubing inside the cowl... loosing back pressure and starving the engine. Looks like the wing is rebuildable, but I'll have to look more closely at it this week. Looking forward to getting it in the air again.

RE: World Models Extra 300
Thanks Frieshoo- Wings are off at the moment, I'll measure them later tonight. This model has a single anti rotation pin on each wing, with a 1/4 x 20 through the fuse at the TE and a 6 x 32 machine bolt at the LE. Its strung with a pull/pull on the rudder, and a "normal" type of tailwheel. The GP manual doesn't show a pull/pull, and it depicts a funky tailwheel assembly. No gold trim on the cowl or anywhere else, just red/white/black ============== Just found the WM manual. Yup, I've got the World Models version!

Hey guys. I just bought a (barely) used PW Extra 300S with Moki 210. How can I tell if its a Great Planes or World Models version? It's the usual red/white scheme. Where can I get a copy of the World Models manual? Can anyone tell me the suggested throws? The suggested CG? Can't wait to get this bird in the air, but want to be certain I've got it set up right to start. Thanks.

RE: Excelleron 90
My E-90 is my favorite plane, by far. I'm running a well broken in YS110, about 200 flights on this airframe and about 150 on a previous plane. I think the all in weight is abount 8.5lbs. I fly near sea level and the YS110 has incredible power. I've run Coolpower 30% Heli fuel, but the extra "umph" isn't necessary. I'm running an APC 16x6 prop at 8,900 rpm (about 200 rich of peak) on Powermaster YS 20/20. I replaced the stock LG with the Bolly carbon fiber FAI as suggested in this thread and that gave me all the clearance I needed for the bigger prop. I also built it with the HD Dubro hinges and larger control arms to achieve good alignment of the pivot points directly over the hinge lines. This is my first pattern style plane, and I've flown it hard. I've had to patch the wings a couple of times, and remount the LG plate after a couple of hard landings. Bottom line, this is a Killer plane/engine combo.

raych: I'm running a Saito 91 (at sea level) and I would say it flys scale, but definitely not 3D. I'm into precision aerobatics, so it works OK for me. The Saito 100 would definitely be the way to go. I'm afraid you'd be very unhappy with anything less powerful. Steve

Bodywerks: What do you think about the YS 110FZ? I'm currently running a Saito91-S with a 14x8 APC prop turning 8900 rpm (200 rich of peak 9100) in the plane. Plane flys good, but not much punch. I fly near sea level.

110FZ Regulator Retrofit?
Dave: Is there a retrofit for the new regulator for pre 2006 110FZ's? Seems like a good reason to send the engine back for its annual. Thanks. Steve

110FZ
Dave: Question on the regulator. I've got a pre 2006 YS110FZ with about 200 flights on the engine. I had it in the shop about 60 flights ago for a crash test. Everything was OK. Only the gaskets needed replacing. I've finally got it dialed in with the regulator screw 2-3 mm above the casing. Is there a problem with this? I was told by someone at my club that the regulator should be no higher than flush with the casing. There's a fair amount of smoke, so its definitly running rich. Power seems good. My problem has been the engine quitting on quick transition from WOT to low idle when I chop the throttle, and it kept dying on low speed idle during landing final. Got that solved first by richening the regulator, and then richening the LS idle valve. (I noticed that when I leaned the regulator too far, the engine idle would "pulse"). I noticed that the engine did not idle stable at low speed...it would hit 2,000 then bounce up to 2,400, then back to 2,100, then up to 2,500, etc. At the current settings, none of these problems exist. I guess I could lean the regulator a turn or so, then attempt to address the WOT to LS idle via adjusting the LS idle. Sorry if this is confusing. I wish I understood the pumped system better. Comments? Thanks. Steve

RE: Excelleron 90
My 2 cents: I run a YS 110 in my Excelleron 90 and it is freakin' awesome. It took a bit of adjusting to get the engine tuned just right, but now its a thing of beauty! I've got about 150 flights on the engine, with 20 on this plane. It is truly unlimited vertical. (At least for us old guys at 51 whose eyesight is starting to go!) Our field is pretty near sea level. I couldn't be happier with this plane/engine combo. Steve

Thanks Eddie. I've got the instructions and I'll give 'em a try tomorrow. I plan to start early before it gets hot, and just take some time with the process. I agree about being too rich at Low Speed. There was far more smoke at low and mid throttle, then there was at full throttle. I'll change out the spark plug as well, just to be certain. Steve

RE: Excelleron 90
Had the maiden flight of my E-90 today. Boy what a blistering hot day at Prado (Chino Hills, CA 652' above sea level) -- just about 100deg on the tarmac by 10:30AM. I'm running a YS 110FZ, Hitec HS645MGs for Ail & Elevator, Aritronics 94357 (2x faster than the Hitecs) on Rudder, HS625MG for throttle, 1600 mah NIMH. I switched out the stock control horn arms for the 3/4" ones in the Dubro 867 set and used the Dubro Giant scale plastic hinges instead of the metal ones provided with the kit (This was suggested in Dean Pappas great article in Model Aviation last September). I reinforced the LG plate with a couple of small strips 5oz fiberglass. Otherwise everything else was stock and by the book. Ran the AI and EL at 12 deg and the Rudder at 15 deg. 15x8 APC prop with Cool Power 30% Heli fuel. Got 2 flights in before the engine started to act up (probably from the heat). First was with CG just shy of 7" (measured at home) -- way too nose heavy. Then moved the batt pack and receiver back 2" for the second flight -- still too nose heavy. Tracked OK on 45 deg up lines but dove on high bank turns. Didn't have the CG machine with me. For the next outing, Ive switched locations of the battery and receiver (moved the battery back 4") and will try again. I'll balance it first to make certain I'm within the 7 1/4" limit -- this puts the 6V Nimh battery back right in front of the servo tray and the receiver (Airtronics PCM 8 Ch) right in front of that. I think this will do it. Can't imagine what's up with the folks that say they needed to add nose weight with this configuration. Needed only a couple of clicks left aileron trim. The 100FZ has incredible power in this plane. Unfortnuately, I don't have it dialed in yet and it was too freakin hot to really test out. Have about 130 flights on the engine, but just got it back from YS Performance after crash testing. I'm headed off to CABO for a week's vacation with the family, so I won't get to put it back in the air until Sat 7/22. I'll give everyone a follow-up report then. Any hints on dialing in a YS 110FZ, please let me know. Low to high transition feels too rich, hard to keep the engine lit at med-low rpm, and I can't get low speed idle under 2200. I've got the engine mounted parallel to the hardwood rails (the engine is a bit smaller than the width of the rails), but it looks like a whole lot of right thust. I'm just a little concerned its too much. How do you tell if there's too much or not enough right thrust? Thanks all. Steve

RE: Excelleron 90
Question re YS 110FZ. What's the best way to handle access to the regulator screw? When mounting this engine inverted, this would mean drilling an access hole up through the fuse top at the nose. I presume making this adjustment accessible is mandatory. I'm thinking of carving a little space in the engine compartment directly above the regulator screw so it can be screwed out just above flush, and drilling only a small flatblade screwdriver access hole through to the fuse top. How has anyone handled this? Thanks in advance for the help.
