RE: SUPER CURARE
Hi , Just saw your thread on this plane . Looks great and wanted to know if it could be considered enough Original to be SPA legal ? Or can you tell me the differences to a Legal ( 1976 ) Curare ? Would like to have one but don't want to build a balsa fuse . thanks , Steve

RE: El Gringo from RCM plans?
Yes , That is Ted in the pic working on it . Ted had the ingenuity to paint the 2 different planes with US and Nazi insignias ,and Wall-La , we now have a P-51 and a Me-109 .[:D] Or maybe a German captured Mustang . Your plans shown are RCM marked however when the plan came out Model: pl-436 , Featured in issue: RCM 7-70 , the Rudder and Elevator hinge line where on the same plain /line ( Pic below ). Your plan has the moved stab ,but still the built up wing ,Not foam as he later used on these planes in pic .I suspect your plans are Version 2 ,Not the Version 4or 5 airplane he explained to me , as in the final as shown in my pic in 1971 . Also note Last versions had Foam core wings and where tail-draggers (Optional nose gear shown ) . Steve

Mark , I forgot to mention that I took this pic of Ted White in 1971 at a Dallas R/C Club contest in Irving ,Texas . Talk about Stand off scale ! How about the German Version ![:D] Steve

RE: El Gringo from RCM plans?
Mark , I just saw your post here about the El Gringo . I have a little info you might be interested in about it . Ted White ,the designer is an old club member and still lives here in the Fort Worth area . I had a chat with him last summer about why the RCM plans look different then his planes I remember seeing fly back in the early 70's .Seems the RCM plans are Version 1 original and by 1971 he was flying version 4 or 5 he said . I found that interesting because the reasons to change the stab location to help knife-edge flight was to correct for pitching . I heard the same reasons for the change on the Super Kaos and also for Anhedral stabs .Since you had to fly the sticks back in those days before computer radios ,the designers were constantly changing airframes to correct design issues . It is my opinion that his last design looks the best also .If you can handle the fact the platform progressed to look similar to a P-51 A model .He also went to a tail-dragger design to save weight without the nose gear . As fortune would have it ,I have just happened on a framed up late version ,built many years ago ,that I hope to purchase from the owners son .He bought the kit directly from Ted years ago . When I get it ,you may want some dimensions from it . I understand that it did Not come with full-size plans ,however . Steve

RE: Is there a resource comparing SPA type planes?
Bruce , In Fort Worth we had Several Koas' , I think a half dozen Phoenix 7's , 1 - Mach 1 , a “Real Dirty Birdy ((Glass Fuse )) ,a Compensator , 2- Curares , a couple Intruders ,a Skylark , a Sig Cobra , and Ron's Personal Tiger Tail ,now owned by Ellis Newkirk .

RE: INFO ON CASHBURN'S LUCKYFLY
Hi Jim , I sent an email already to you ,don't know if you got it . I have a friend in our Club , The Fort Worth Thunderbirds ,that used to have a .40 size a year ago that was lost . I too had a .40 size in the early 70's and a .60 size when I got back to R/C in 1993 .He Really wants another and we have told him a .60 size would be better for SPA that he wants to fly it for . I have the plans , and a tip template and build notes .We are friends with the person that still has the un-flown Toledo Show Demo plane that some measurements have been made off of , since the plans are not complete . Do you still have some of the parts you mentioned in this old post ?? Please let me know ,and send me an email if you can . Thanks , Steve

OS 61 SF ABC Piston and Liner or Interchangable parts ?
Hey Guys , I thought I would see if anybody has parts ,or a solution for non existent (New from OS ) replacements . Years ago we all heard that a Thunder-tiger Engineer came from OS and basically copied or used the same design to make the TT Pro . It was said the TT Pro was a copy of the Os 61 SF . I have looked at all the bore and strokes of the "other engines" ie , Thunder-tiger and Magnum , and they Are Not the same . Were- as the OS is Truly a "Stroked" version in comparison ,because all others are a shorter stoke and bigger bore . Soooo ,has anybody tried to measure a TT or Magnum sleeve ,and see if the OD is the same as an OS ,and if so ,does the exhaust port line up with the OS case window ??? Basically can it be done ?? Any other ideas other than the Old possibility ,that Performace Specialties made an after market replacement ,that I believe also doesn't exist anymore . I had heard of ,I think it was the car guys, that could make a ABC piston ,have more "Pinch" agian to get more life out of thier engines . Anybody have input of the "Do-it-Yourself "method ??Trying to get some vintage engines for Vintage Pattern usable for new planes next season . Thanks for any help . Steve

RE: The Cowtown SPA - April 30 ,2011
Tommy , You have me at a loss to know who you are ,since you "think" you, know my thoughts and intentions . I don't think I have ever corresponded with you in the past ,until you just asked if we were Still not going to allow Electrics at the Cowtown SPA. I replied that "At this point in time ,we are following the SPA guidelines ,which this year re-instated E-Power planes ". This was SPA's stand last year ,and if you attended or were going to attend our contest then ,My club followed the SPA guild lines then also that disallowed them .I wasn't the CD of record then or even this year .For you to say "Steve doesn't like electrics......I'm sure that's part of it", would mean that I talked to you about this and I don't recall a conversation with you "Tom from Houston" on the subject .Furthermore ,this subject matter is Not what my posts in this Thread relate to . I'm All for promoting Classic Pattern events , SPA , and Ballistic Pattern ! What I said previously was "I'm all for a 2 day event with All Classic pattern classes flown ( Since our Clubs past participation has limited this contest to 1 day ) . I'm making it a Personal agenda to Promote Classic/SPA /Ballistic pattern events in the State of Texas and try to get More clubs on board for an event . Since the South east is a Hot bed of SPA activity ( 12 contests ) and they don't appear too interested in traveling West , My plans are to Promote a South West Pattern Organization and or chapter ". I will need input from everybody around Texas ,Clubs ,and Organizations to get "On Board" for a Serious attempt to have a Classic Pattern Circuit around the state and Surrounding Area to get good participation for hosting clubs ,and make it more fun for the Pilots . I have Only done the Promotion of this event this year for my club and now have Over $1000 in gifts for the pilots to give away . I'm trying to get people interested and make this contest a memorable and an annual event to always come back to. More info soon . Steve

Hi , At this point in time ,we are following the SPA guidelines ,which this year re-instated E-Power planes . Classic Pattern flying in Texas will be forever changed after this week end . There are changes coming and the SPA organization will NOT be the Focus . Steve

RE: The Cowtown SPA - April 30 ,2011
Hey Scott , Yes , I'm for the promotion of Any Pattern event in Texas .Problem is that Texas used to be a Hot bed of activity in the 70's and now most all those guys have gone . When a Club such as ours has 12 + events a year and only a small cross section of interest in Pattern now ,it makes it harder to put an event together . We have now since last year interested more core group club members to fly with us . I'm all for a 2 day event with All Classic pattern classes flown , but I'm sure I'm the one that would have to spear head it . I'm making it a Personal agenda to Promote Classic/SPA /Ballistic pattern events in the State and try to get More clubs on board for an event . Since the South east is a Hot bed of SPA activity ( 12 contests ) and they don't appear too interested in traveling West , My plans are to Promote a South West Pattern Organization and or chapter . Info forth coming after our First SPA Contest this year ,that is next Weekend . Well , I guess I just let the cat out of the Bag ! It was just a rumor before ....... Steve Ehlers

Sorry Folks ,but I made a typo with BOTH dates in this first flier sent out to the Forum . The FIRST SPA event is April 30 ,2011 . Our second SPA contest this year will be Saturday, September 17, 2011 . I also want to let people of SPA in Alabama know that I did not pick this date to conflict with your Contest weekend or with Atlanta for our second event . Steve

"Wanted : Firebaby parts"
Hello , I have wanted a Firebaby for years to collect .I had one as a kid for 3 seconds after my dad let it go on my first flight when I was about 6 years old in the very early 1960's .It went straight up and down into the concrete parking lot ! I was pretty scared I think ,and Now mad ,I didn't get to learn U Control with it then .Of course I did later and really was good at it .Then Dad taught me to fly R/C as an early teen .Got back into flying R/C about 17 years ago when I started my family .I have bid on ebay for many of these over the years and have never been able to afford what they went for . Does anybody have parts or incomplete kits that I can make a plane with ? I had the plastic fuse design but would possibly consider the early version made of balsa .Plans anyone to scratch out an Early version ?? Thanks for any help or direction in my quest . Steve
