RE: New Mini Electric is here the Falcon 3D!!
For those of you looking for a data recorder, you may want to consider this device. A lot of the Trex guys use it, and in addition to logging volts and amps, you can get sensors to record motor and/or rotor rpm and motor/esc/batt temps. Also, you don't really need it, but you can get a display for it as well. They are currently offering a $5.50 disc and free shipping. http://www.unitedhobbies.com/unitedhobbies/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4575 Hope this helps. Steve

RE: New Mini Electric is here the Falcon 3D!!
Roger, The easiest way to play with pitch is to solder bullet connectors between your motor and esc. Then disconnecting any two wires will disable the motor, and using your standard lipo you can play with the pitch. These are the connectors I used: http://www.unitedhobbies.com/unitedhobbies/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=68 Just be sure to use the female connectors on the esc ends, and shrink wrap all connectors so you don't short things out. By the way, I have had good luck with UH shipping here to the States. Hope this helps. Steve

RE: New Mini Electric is here the Falcon 3D!!
Ralph, It has been suggested that you re-bind your rx to the DX7. Make sure when you do this that your throttle is down all the way so that fail safe will shut off the throttle if the two stop communicating. Steve

RE: New Mini Electric is here the Falcon 3D!!
Darkmatrix, The plane does NOT use lipos, it uses nimh I think; but, they are comparatively inexpensive. I would say you need at least a little league ball park size field to fly. It's 3-channel: throttle, elev, rudder - so it's really easy to learn on. Hope this helps. Steve

RE: New Mini Electric is here the Falcon 3D!!
Roger, Oops, I may have spoken too soon on the HXT batteries. There may be a dimension problem. It's been a while, but I believe the critical dimension is - the width cannot exceed 30mm.; and, in order to get the battery in, you need to rotate the rx 90 degrees and move it back, then insert the battery on its side and slide it back against the rx. The next best price batt. I know of is Mega Power 2100 mah 15c, and I KNOW these work. As for balance chargers - the only one I can recommend without hesitation is the Cell Pro 4S by FMA Direct. Sorry for the miscue. Hope this helps. Steve

RE: New Mini Electric is here the Falcon 3D!!
Roger and others, I wouldn't recommend the Align batts. None of the "Align" Trex guys use them because they are known "puffers". It may be okay with the light demands of the Falcon inrunner, but there are better/cheaper alternatives. I have been using the HXT batts. from UnitedHobbies, with good success. Here is one that should work fine with the stock inrunner, but there are others with higher mah, but also greater weight. http://www.unitedhobbies.com/unitedhobbies/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=2096 Note they are on on back order, expected in stock by the 19th. I just noticed United now carries the "Loong" line of batts. I know nothing about these. Hope this helps. Steve

RE: New Mini Electric is here the Falcon 3D!!
Roger, If you are using the stock tx, I believe disconnecting the gyro wire from the rx enables adjustment on the gyro itself, either in rate or hh mode. Leaving the gyro wire connected disables the local adjustments on the gyro, defaulting to factory hh settings. Therefore, if the gyro is functioning properly, there shouldn't be any problem using the gyro rx input for your led application. It's been a while since I had my Falcon, but I believe this is the way things work. Somebody please correct me if this is incorrect! Hope this helps. Steve

RE: LOOKING TO BUY THE T-REX 450SA PACKAGE FROM RCANDME...
Bubba, If you can possibly squeeze out another $300 you will be into a V2 with the DX7, much better than the SA and DX6. This package will include all the good electronics. Tim is great to work with, and he is very serious about price matching. About two months ago Tim and I worked up a great deal on a Trex 600, and he stuck by every part of the negotiation - including all the connectors and soldering. While I think you should do the build, if you aren't into it, he will do that for a very reasonable price. But building it yourself makes doing repairs much easier!! Tell him that Steve from California with the Trex 600 has guaranteed you the absolute best price. :) Hope this helps, but pm me if you have any questions. Steve

RE: New Mini Electric is here the Falcon 3D!!
Joskibob, I suggest you consider the points raised by capmed07, and make sure all the grub screws are tight in the one-way and collars. This very same thing happened to me, and I discovered the grub in the one way was loose and it was spinning around the main shaft. The main was spinning enough to spin the blades, but not enough speed to take off. Hope this helps. Steve

RE: New Mini Electric is here the Falcon 3D!!
Lee, Thanks for the comments regarding the CopterX. Yes, I too have succumbed to the lure of a Trex 450 se with the DX7; and love it. I just saw the ad, and thought it might benefit someone considering an initial Falcon purchase - cheaper than a blinged out Falcon, and a better tx. Good to hear from you. Steve

RE: New Mini Electric is here the Falcon 3D!!
Ralph, While you're over at HeliFreak.com check out the other Finnless videos, particularly the ones on the 450 SE and HDE builds. Lot's of info there that will benefit you as you set up your Falcon and DX7. Let me know if I can be of any help. Steve p.s. - Gary, good safety points there. Further, everyone should take every opportunity to stock up on spares, as the spring/summer demand will surely put them in short supply.

RE: New Mini Electric is here the Falcon 3D!!
Dzaken I mean absolutely no offense when I say - If you don't know what the 3D switch is all about, then you need to stay away from it for now. In fact, you may want to open the tx box and disconnect it, or tape it in the norm position, because it is too easily and unintentionally flipped into 3D mode when one is first learning just to hover. Of course, there is nothing wrong with asking your question to understand what it does. Also, if you ever land the Falcon in a hurry and experience it sitting there on the ground at full throttle, then you have likely flipped the switch to 3D. Don't panic, simply flip it back to norm and sanity will return. Hope this helps. Steve

RE: New Mini Electric is here the Falcon 3D!!
Nathan, Some of the guys are finding them on ebay for a good price. I had a local archery shop order me a dozen, and I paid $48 for them. Had no problem cutting them in half and selling off the excess here and over at RCU. Luckily, my wife had a bunch of gift wrapping paper rolls that worked perfectly for shipping. Get the Platinum Plus - great dark platinum color. Hope this helps. Steve

RE: New Mini Electric is here the Falcon 3D!!
xargxar, Welcome back!! Haven't heard from you for quite a while. Will be thinking of you when we arrive in Marbella tomorrow for some holiday. Anyway, I know I have seen the plastic part you are looking for, and I think it was for the Shogun. Here is an aluminum part that I think will work, you might contact them for the dimensions. This is the best I can do for now, but if I can think of where I saw it I will let you know. Maybe try some thread searches here and over at the RCGroups Falcon thread. http://grandrc.com/inc/sdetail/20976 Hope this helps. Steve

RE: New Mini Electric is here the Falcon 3D!!
Tony, I just emailed you on the booms. Others here can address the gyro thing, I'm still unclear on gyros myself. Points 1 & 3 I believe to gyro related. The tail coming around to the right is what they all do on startup with the stock esc. And, most likely the sound you are hearing is one of the two cyclic servos up front and not the gyro. A flick of elevator or aileron usually makes it stop. Hope this helps. Steve p.s. - Believe me, disassembly and assembly becomes almost second nature the second or third time through. I can replace a main shaft, tail boom, and tail drive shaft w/the three bearings in about one hour start to finish. And I am one big thumb!!

RE: New Mini Electric is here the Falcon 3D!!
C'mon guys, Cool arrow shafts for only $2 per rough-cut boom. My wife is wonderful and all that, but even she has limits. Imagine - she surprises me with the Trex and servos, for which she spent mucho $$$; and then "arrow shafts" show up for me - you know, the one without a bow?? So, it's probably a good idea for me to clear them out. Thanks for any help you can provide. Steve

RE: New Mini Electric is here the Falcon 3D!!
If anyone is interested, I am selling off my spare parts inventory. I've got quite a few and would like to make as few shipments as possible, so the bigger the order the more I will discount. At the very least, I will pay for shipping. I also just received a dozen 2213 xx75 arrow shafts in a cool platinum color that I will let go for $2 per boom plus shipping. Not sure the best way to ship those - any ideas will be appreciated. If anyone is interested, please email me at gomes@alamedanet.net My wonderful wife surprised me with a 450 SE (not the V2, but still a nice heli). Steve

RE: New Mini Electric is here the Falcon 3D!!
DZS, If you are just looking for a balancer, then I will defer to the above recommendations; but, it you want a compact charger/balancer I agree that the Cellpro 4s is a good unit. Note, if you get the cellpro, you will need to get their 2s 3s adapter. Here are the links: http://www.fmadirect.com/Detail.htm?item=2193&section=45 http://www.fmadirect.com/Detail.htm?item=2196&section=45 Man, I just noticed their prices have gone up a bit, so you may be better off with something else. Also, you will need to have a 12v power supply for the Cell Pro. Steve
