RE: 1/10 Buggy Compatible Parts
Yes, I went to a 19 tooth hpi and definently raised the top end. I would suggest first to port & polish the header for more speed. There is a risk of tearing up the plastic drive gear...

RE: Clutch bell warped teeth
Chopper, Most LHS guys dont want to risk being wrong so they wont just "eyeball" a part. No PN and they say goodbye. I usually just start making them pull items off the shelf and look for myself.

IS this a single speed? If yes got to the LHS and get an HPI 42 tooth gear, dremel off the nub and install.

Chopper, For the single speed an HPI will match right up. Up put a 19 tooth in mine with no problems.

RE: more stripped gears
AJ, It wasn't the clutch gear but the main drive gear. I found a replacement HPI 42 tooth gear that work with a little modding. It's amazing what you can find at your LHS if you just compare parts instead of looking for P/N's.

RE: can shift to 2nd gear!!! getting PO!
ORIGINAL: ehroof shifting from 1st to 2nd gears has nothing to do with the clutch bell or the clutch spring. there is a small shifting clutch next to the tranmission gears, the faster the gears turn there is a an arm that comes out and catches the smaller gear, this is second gear. mine hasnt shifted or at least correctly since i got it. i ordered a new one so hopefully it will work. there is an adjustment set screw on it, clockwise turn makes it shift at higher rpm's counter clockwise makes it shift at lower rpm's. there are 2 set screws on it, one holds the clutch in place on the shaft, the one offset to the left, looking from the bottom it the one that adjusts the shifting. i would suggest turning it at 90 degree adjustments at a time and driving it.
Actually if the clutch is slipping your RPM's wont get high enough to engage 2nd gear. Just a thought. PS, the HPI gears may work, with a hack saw i was able to mod a single speed gear for my buggy

RE: more stripped gears
I have a single speed syclone (tornado) and finally destroyed the drive gear that meets the clutch bell. Any idea of a PN for a replacement in steel or aluminum? I have a duratrax GP2 that is now a parts car but its a 2 speed. Can i pull a drive gear off it and put in the redcat?

RE: I'm MAD AS Hell
ORIGINAL: blackdogafd hey bill if ya wanted to you could add this exhaust system to your application, its the one that i'm getting for my syclone! check it out http://rchub.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=rchub&Product_Code=E1018H&Category_Code=timedspecials you also can add any HPI header pipe for side exhaust and find your own exhaust pipe that you want
Blackdogafd, I don't think the muffler at the end makes a difference as I'm using the original. The length of pipe is the kicker. As i said above I'm going to frankenstien this baby out with a straight up or back exaust and tear it up!

RE: I'm MAD AS Hell
this is a similar header pipe to the one from the GP2 http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCPR9&P=FR Can I cut off the end, JB weld a copper tube the same diameter and point it straight up instead of running accross the top like it is now? Will the copper and JB deal OK with the temps?

RE: I'm MAD AS Hell
Ripped from the pages of nitrorc.com "Tuned Pipes: So we have some unburnt air/fuel that could be used to generate power and it's going out the exhaust manifold. This is where the tuned pipe comes in. The construction of the tuned pipe works with the pressure pulses coming out of the exhaust port. The pulses resonate inside of the pipe and travel back into the manifold. The pressure pulse actually pushes the air/fuel mixture that escaped out the manifold back into the combustion chamber. This super-charges the combustion chamber and gives the 2-stroke engine its characteristic peak HP. This is the point in which the engine turns ON. You will know that you hit this point because the car will accelerate rapidly when the engine gets on the pipe. You can actually fine-tune when the engine will have this extra burst of power. The speed at which the pressure waves from the pipe synchronizes with the piston, is a function of the length from the belly of the tuned pipe (widest part) to the center of the glow plug. The longer the distance, the faster the engine will come on the pipe. If you want to delay the time when the engine hits the supercharge, then shorten the header and/or pipe. When you replace the stock header/manifold, keep in mind that there is a reason for a pipe's size and geometry. You can use this information to your advantage to strengthen your engine's power band. A bad decision in the exhaust department can actually lower engine performance. " An extra 5" of pipe makes a BIG difference.

RE: I'm MAD AS Hell

How come no one told me that adding a header pipe will increase power by more than 30%??? I pulled a header off a OS motor put it on the 1/10 buggy and Jesus Christ it is fast now!!!

If the connecting rod has snapped can you replace just that or is a complete rebuild required? I think i have the same problem. (With out the scratches on the sleeve tho.)

OS .18 rebuild parts
I have a duratrax gp2 and yesterday the engine locked up. I wiggled the flywheel and now it spins freely. Maybe a busted rod, I haven't taken it apart yet. Any ideas on where to get reasonably priced rebuild parts?

RE: GP2 engine screaming!!
Wow, not a lot of ideas on this side...[8D] I found the problem just in case someone else runs into it. One of the screws that holds the carb onto the engine vibrated out giving direct air flow and causing the "scream" at idle. PS; The clutch spring is shot so i guess i'm heading to the LHS for another.

GP2 engine screaming!!
I was running my used (new to me) gp2 and all of a sudden its screaming down the road... I was able to grab it and shut it down but the negine wants to scream with the idle almost closed. I haven't torn it apart yetbut I'm guessing it has a clog in the fuel line causing it to be super lean at idle. Does that sound right? Edit- Any idea whats involved with a clutch replacement? Mine is grabbing too early, I think the shoes are melted and dragging a little. Or maybe the spring.
