[:D]Just a word to anyone wanting this kit ,,,if you do not like stickers stay away from this kit for sure! RE: Bought a tamiya Grasshopper what brushless should I drop in?
Don't see wanting a hopper any faster than a kit rs540 motor but if you need speed just leave it brushed pick up a duratrax photon 2 speed 20 turn motor they are like $11.00 and it will be way faster than with the stock 540 motor...O if your hopper was not moded yet it would have the tiny 380 motor and if it does then the RS 540 upgrade will be way faster and if you go with the duratrax motor it should fly for $11.00! Also these hopper type chassis run better with the old heavy style 6 cell NIMH packs it keeps them planted on the ground more.

RE: What is the problem about airsoft tank fighting?
I feel air soft is much more FUN me and a buddy tried it at one of our last battles we had and we both had a blast and liked it ..you can clearly hear and see when you get hit by a bb since you most all the time will be 20ft or so apart because its hard to hit each other unlike IR that you can hit a guy 50+ foot away since it spreads a fake wide beam. Also they have bio bb's that biodegrade fast now and are just a good as high quality normal BB's they also have bio Marking BB's that when hit they leave a white or orange mark on the object they hit and it will wipe right off. And forget the old tank class BS the IR is so fake and weather your tank is tiny or a big KT you are the same size target from the apple IR reciever in the tank ... you can set up a tamiya apple and electronics on top of a small baseball and it won't matter that the target is a small baseball it will still get hit the same as if the apple was hooked up in a real 1-1 size tank...so the class stuff in IR i think is all just a big pipe dream that they try to do but in reality it don't work..

RE: Battery Charger (what's everyone using)
Wade if that's all you have the 245 should be fine if you go lipo I highly recommend the Gens ace hard packs they are great and they have 5 C charge capability so if you get a 4500 or even a 3500 you can still use 5 amps on it.... But if you are really going to get into lipos and say get like 5000 packs like the gens ace and want to charge more quickly I would get one charger that charges at up to 10 amps at least so you can charge 2 times as fast...I would not charge any lipo at more than 2c that's my feelings but you can but i always say better safe than sorry.... and the higher C charge the less life you pack will have and wear out faster. But then again i just thought on the 245 you can charge 2 5000-2s lipos at 1C and you willhave 2 packs charged in the same time any how as charging with one charger at 2C 10 amp charge.
ORIGINAL: Rebellion13 LOL. That's great. I do tend to go over board. I will research everything and then second guess my decision at least 80% of the time......... No wait, make that 90%.......well maybe 95%. But there is a lot that I am learning with these posts. The charger will be for if I make the jump to lipo for my short course trucks, and Nimh for the tanks, that's about it. I see shiny new chargers and go ooooh and aaaah. But yeah I just need to keep it simple. Though I do like to learn about these things, so all these replies are definately worthwhile. Thanks. Cheers Wade
RE: Battery Charger (what's everyone using)
Rebellion13 It to me sounds like you are going to go over board on this if you want to keep things neat and simple the 245 will be great for you... It's guy's like me who have loads of rc's boats plains cars tanks helies that will benifit from the seperates set up.... if you are not crazy into the RC's I would just get the 245 it will be good for you. I have like 50 rc's that's why i need the more complex set ups for a normal guy with maybe a few rc's the 245 will do fine... don't go over board because if you don't have the rc's and all the batteries you will just be lugging loads of extra stuff around for nothing. no sense having the big box filled with chargers and stuff to just show it off if in fact your never using it's capabilities.... Trust me i know... this is why for up stairs in the house i keep a good AC/DC thunder power 610 charger i linked above it's simple and does a super job.

RE: Battery Charger (what's everyone using)
First off nitro planes, nitrorcx and hobbypartz are all the same companies. Those power supplies are no good at all they are made cheaply. and about charging my myself mostly charge 1C if my batteries even say charge up to 5C i never go to 2C better safe than sorry. Next the chargers a few reasons why i like the other over the duratrax is more power 10amp charge capable and also all the china type and hi tech are better for life and lipo batteries as they have more charge modes for example for lipo they have the store mode that charges them up to 3.85V per cell for storage when not using the packs, also they have fast charge mode this limits the consistant Voltage charge after constant current charge so the batteries will get charged faster and they will be like 95 to 98% full other than waiting for normal balance charge where the charger puts 100% charge in the packs... this is good feature. Now if you get 2 of the ones you shown I would get one of these I have one and it workes great and this guy is highly recommended on RCG boards. http://www.feathermerchantrc.com/ anyone will do good i have the 42 amp version and i run 2 chargers off it the 4 port and my Ice and never had one problem at all. Hope this helps!

RE: Battery Charger (what's everyone using)
Search hobbyking.com they have life packs and i think they now have them in the USA store when i looked last time. also one nice feature of the china chargers and hi tech over the duratrax is the screen you can set the screen to stay on and show all voltage status in lipo or life cell charging this is a nice feature so you can glance and see how each cell in the pack is charging and if something looks wrong ...the duratrax i believe just cycles through every charge setting non stop on the lcd.
ORIGINAL: Rebellion13 And this brings up a question, now I don't want to get too far off the point but, I have been looking for some LiFe packs, amain used to have their protec line for under $30 but they have since sold out and that has been around 1yr ago, and maxamps are ridiculously expensive. So if anyone know where to get some of the LiFe packs I'm all ears. I have seen the soft case not the hard case, but not too sure about those. Since these might be used for other RC's and not just the tanks. And as Shen has stated about the re-badging of chargers, the same holds true with batteries, most of the cells come from 1 of 3 or so factories and then are re-badged with their brand name on it. Oh and BTW still thinking about the onyx 245 [:D] Cheers, Wade
RE: Battery Charger (what's everyone using)
I been into RC for over 30 years and i will tell you this a brushed motor RC is more complacated and more work than a brushless system once you set up the brushles system ..almost the same as a normal esc then you never need to replace the motors all the time or rebuild them like you have to with brushed motors... also you may not need lipo or life packs for tanks but you have to think about you may need that option for TX packs or other types of RC's you may own or may own down the road... a good charger is one of the best investments you could put $ into when it comes to RC.
ORIGINAL: DirtyBird69 I'm a bit of an old fart in my ''rc mentality'' and just don't see the need to convert to Li-po anytime soon as NiMh have done me in good stead. I haven't even gone brushless in my rc cars.....too complicated and I don't want to have to program my speed control,my transmitter and all that sillyness. I like the old school simplicity of a brushed motor/mechanical speed control/nimh pack...just plug-n-play easy-peasy..

ORIGINAL: Tony Iannucelli A lot of you guys are into the heavy stuff. I only use three and four cell lipos ranging from 1600 to 5000. If you are like I am in this respect, the Accucel 6 from Hobby King has been great for me and I would recommend one or several of them. I have four of them, and they do the job quite well. I think they cost around $25. They use small power supplies, the $10 ones. I charge at 1C usually. The charger is great for NiMH, NiCad, PB, and FE as well. Never had one break in over three years. I do squirt some WD-40 on the fan motor every so often. The chargers also feature storage and fast charge too. Worth a look.
yep those will work just fine i had one also... you can get the same charger under different brand names with a built in power supply fro like $50.00 beans now if you don't want to luge to units around.
