scx10 internal ratio compared to a r2
what is the tranny ratio of the scx10 stock? i want to put the r2 2speed from rc4wdhttp://store.rc4wd.com/R2-Black-2-Speed-Transmission_p_841.html into one, but i want it to have a crawl speed and a fast speed. what i was thinking is that if the ratios will be too low, than i could put this http://store.rc4wd.com/12-Ultra-Compact-Gear-Speeder-Unit-for-540-Motor_p_766.html on the motor to up the speed. basically i want to be abled to do light bashing with the truck, and crawl. any input, or just the internal ratio of the scx would help. thanks

theres a conversion plate to direct mount the r2 to the scx.

i cant remember which is am and which is fm but 72 mhz is prone to glitching and interference, and i think has less range, where as 2.4 ghz is almost glitch and interference free, much more reliable, and far easier. i strongly reccomend 2.4.

RE: a scaler, a trailer, and a motor question
what i meant by i am considering is is that i am thinking about buying a scx10. its a money issue. while the thought is there reaper, i didnt ask for a trailer to buy. i am going to make one. all i wanted to know is about a hitch. what i mean by plastic is that they are not steel gears. i would be swapping out the tranny when i got one, so thats not an issue. i dont doubt that the tranny would have trouble with it in a mini t, but im saying that it wouldnt squish the suspension to the ground, and the stock motor could pull it on level dirt or concrete. all i would be doing is pulling like a pount or two of trailer and plane and reciever combined up and down a dirt road, that is well packed, and theres only one small hill. i think im going to just get one of these http://shop.dubro.com/products/productdetail/2-56+Threaded+Ball+Link+%28QTY/PKG%3A+1+%29/part_number=181/101.0.1.1.5210.5163.0.0.0?pp=12& and some screws to hold it to the trailer, make a hitch mount, and be done with it. ps, reaper, i am not simple minded. i just know how a trailer works, how to load one, and i know for a fact that an scx would pull one. if my evader ext can pull a rc10 with the back wheels not freely spinning all over the place no problem, than i think a 2 pound trailer will go just fine behind a scx.

RE: a scaler, a trailer, and a motor question
alright guys look, this isnt a thread for tamiyas, its about an scx10. i have done hours of research as to what vehicle i want, and spent a lot of time looking at the tamiya hilift. i just dont like it. its not quite my style and too expensive anyway. thats all. i even want to get the ford body for my scx when i finally get it. i am stuck on brushless just for ease of use, noise levels, and more or less maintenance free style. rc4wd has a pintle hitch but its mad expensive (25 bucks!!) ill get around to the trailer later on. thanks for the help for those of you that did halep and not just try to change this to a tamiya thread!

RE: EDF RTR Kit For Beginner
in my experience, dont go nitro. im new to the air, but have a nitro car and an electric car, have 2 electric planes, and love them. my neighbor has an electric heli and a nitro heli, and the nitro is not the way to go to get started. i could be wrong, but i would imagine that a nitro plane is similar. itll make you more nervous, and take longer to get in the air. viola!! http://www.hobbyzone.com/rc_planes_parkzone_slo-v.htm trust me when i say it is more worth it to get this ugly thing, learn it, fly it and then change to something better than to just go for badassery right off the start. i got an edge 540t as my first plane... it is in about 6 pieces right now. not a good idea [:D]

a scaler, a trailer, and a motor question
i am considering getting an scx10, but had a question. part of the reason i want mine is to be a dork and make a trailer to pull my plane to the field 1/3 of a mile down the road from my house. it takes me like 3 minutes to walk there, but i hate carrying my plane and transmitter. so my question is, can you get scale trailer hitches, i would imagine that places like rc4wd may have cosmetic ones, but i want working ones. and what kind of brushless system would you guys reccomend that would easily do a slow run speed for the average person, and not chew up a whole battery to get there and back (probably go for a 3-4000 mah 3 cell lipo) and still be able to crawl. id really appreciate any help on this! i do have a radio already so ill be getting the kit, so please no reccomendations to just stay stock!

RE: what are you scared of?
not so much just regular old drowning for me. i can swim good, i scuba dive and snorkel, i surf, i kyak, but running out of air/ having my reg torn free/ or being attacked while under water makes me so afraid. my dad has his commercial diving license and im just a recreational diver, and weve talked over how we would do it if we were out of air, and couldnt get out of the water, or would end up with the bends if we shot. we agreed on the fact that the bends are the worst way to go, but where we didnt agree is on what we would do. i would hold my breath until i passed out if given the opportunity, whereas he would suck in water. i dont think i could bring myself to suck in water because i feel like it would be extremely painful. as i write this i realise im being morbid, but honest [:D]

RE: 12 mm of foam or 6mm?
maidened it last night. flys like a dream. itll stay aloft at like 1/4 throttle no problem. im a very new pilot, last night was my 6th flight ever, but accidentally nosed up on 1/2 throttle and she just hung there. flight was under a minute as that i was too nervous, but i just cut throttle and it glided to the ground like a falling leaf. it was truly amazing. gonna give her another go today.

RE: 12 mm of foam or 6mm?
its no doubt going to be heavier. not only am i adding 3mm of foam, but im also adding epoxy. a fair amount of it. i dont neccisarily intend to do 3d with it just yet, but ill cross that bridge later. im going to run on 3s, not 2. i have a higher pitch prop as well. so power wont be an issue, and with even just that little bit of added air resistance, im hoping it will slow it down a little. it should still be quite floaty, and do whawt i want with it. i just want something slower than what i have to try and learn on, and this presented itself as a cheap option. originally i was going to replicate my flying buddys 3d gee bee, but i decided to go with this. ill see how it goes, got it roughly assembled and cut today, now just for carbon spars and electronics to go into it. should be fun!

i dont have any of that. im just doing 12. modding thee design as i go to make it work. actually going quite well. to be honest i could just about cut it out like its drawn and jam the pices together a littl without a problem. 3 milimeters is not all that much.

12 mm of foam or 6mm?
alright, im gonna try to build the superslo 28 from sdparkflyers.com http://sdparkflyers.com/super.html what i want to know is what you guys think about using 12 mm epp for it. i already have 6mm sheets of 1.9# and they arent what i thought they would bee. i dont know if i could ever get these stiffened up enough to use realistically as a plane material. what do you guys think about doubling it up? i have a 1200 kv motor, 3 cell battery, and 9x4.7 prop for it so i dont think power would be an issue. i would just like to get a plane in the air without having to wait for more foam to arrive, and having to purchase more foam. its only 3mm thicker than reccomended so.. someone let me know your thoughts!

RE: is this foam any good?
my thought is to actually get thicker epp and put sandwich two pieces with carbon in the middle as spars. the reason i would do the gee bee is because i can just use his as a template, and its slow enough for me. i am currently trying to learn with an edge 540, but its far too fast and far too responsive. i will just tame down the gee bee with a slower motor and rates. ill probably get this http://www.rcfoam.com/product_info.php?cPath=83&products_id=413&osCsid=3896e8ba963315545f8e8df1665937e8 and this http://www.rcfoam.com/product_info.php?cPath=95&products_id=741&osCsid=3896e8ba963315545f8e8df1665937e8 as long as i do a few reinforcing rods on the wings and maybe one or two on the fuse then i think it will be okay. is the 1.9# considerably stronger than the 1.3#? the only reason im going for the 1.9# is that its cut much better, and will need less refinement.

is this foam any good?
hey guys, my neighbor has a 3d gee bee from park flyers. he got it with the intention of replicating it with sheets of foam a long time ago. its an awesome little plane, and a good slow flyer surprisingly. i have a full lot of electronics taht i want to put into a beginner/intermediate plane, and thought this owuld be the perfect opportunity. is this foam http://www.rcfoam.com/product_info.php?cPath=83&products_id=409&osCsid=3896e8ba963315545f8e8df1665937e8 any good for building a plane? my rhought is to take two sheets fro most parts, and glue them together with reinforcing rod in the middle. i am not concerned with the reality of building it, just if this is a good reliable, and fairly crash resistant foam. if not, can anyone tell me what the parkflyers 3d gee bee is made of and where to get some? the doam has a skin on it, but i cant seem to find that kind of foam. the thought is to not spend more than 20 or 30 dollars on the foam, so help is appreciated. thanks, and happy flying to all!

sorry to start a new one, but what plane?
okay guys, i have a park flyers edge 540 t that i got as my first plane (i know im stupid but it looked cool and i thought i would be alright with it) while i can keep it aloft, i am not good enough to continue flying it and crashing it without first getting a trainer. my thought is to get a kit trainer (hopefully a foam one, and i do not want a stick flyer) and use at least some of the electronics that i have. i have a reciever, 3 servos a 20 amp speed control, a 3 cell 1800 mah battery, and the motor from the plane but i dont think that will be any good for another blane, as taht the pinion is pressed on and i have no idea what the size of it is. its brushless and 3600 kv so i can always get another motor with those specs. can someone reccomend a high wing trainer with a fair amount of dihedral, 4 cahnnel, and not a stick flyer. i really dont want a stick flyer. any input would be great, and i would like to try to save money by getting somehting without electronics. hopefully under $100 dollars.

my neighbor just pointed it out when we looked at the 3d gee bee. he told me to look around more, but i like its looks, and the reviews all say its a good plane in the long run, just not for a beginner. i ordered it last night. i also have an os 40 la motor that im going to try and get working. if i get that going good then ill invest in a nitro trainer. i have a bit of time on a simulator, and i think itll be okay.

i used to fly on simulators and loved it so im pretty sure that ill like the real thing. i had figured i would get a second hand radio or the cheapy hobby king 2.4 to start with, and if i truly like it and want to move foreword, ill get a better one. how important is having the battery power show up on the transmitter for you guys? it will be my first so im not sure waht to expect when my battery dies. thanks again. that t-28 is just calling me to buy it [:D]
