RE: NIB Dumas Scarab 38KV KAAMA Build
Wow I had followed this thread for a while and had to go look it up.My first build was a dumas 55 scarab.I bought it unfinnished with an OS.90 and hatch cowl iterior ect.I changed it to a homelite with a surface drive and ran it for years. The other day at a swap meet I ran accross another one that was started a long time ago and never completed. all of the extras was unused.I had to take it home.It came with this pair of OS61's and twin mount. The outdrives are unused and someone started to smooth them out. Everything here came in the lot with the exception of the OS.90 behind the boat.It came with my first one and I was compairing it to the 61"s I will probably turn all ot the glow stuff and go gas with a 1 into 2 gear box.I have also been kicking around the idea of going brushless and detailing it out with robarts on the hatch and trim. Not sure but I though a few of you might enjoy seeing an old project come out of the wood work.

RE: Old School Dumas Scarab Resto
Skaters are a great hull!We used to have a 24'with twin 2.4's. I do love the mhz 5000 though.I probably need to part with all my R/c stuff to build one rite! I kinda want to build one from scratch, but I have too many irons in the fire.I will check into Class One.Thanks. The business is TDC motorsports.(New name)They have been there a long time. They would appreciate any referals! They do boats, jet ski's ,bikes,Hot rods, and cars. Do you have any pic's of your cat project?

RE: Proboat Blackjack 55 Catamaran
Yeap, you are rite,it is a surface drive.I should have said stinger type. I don't think it's gonna make a big differance but out of the hole it should make for less air in front of the prop.(When it is submerged) Like a stepped hull, a flat trailing edge will draw in air.For no longer than it will be in the water it was probably a waste of time to do it, but it's done.LOL!

RE: Proboat Blackjack 55 Catamaran
I got to start on the boat tonight so I pulled the prop and strut and worked them.I tapered and feathered the leading and trailing edge on the strut and started cleaning up the 270.I'm still undecided on the prop so I'm gonna clean this one up for now I'm a surface drive fan and not fond of this strut at all in stock form.Feathering it will help on blow out when it is deep.(The flat front and back on the strut can cause cavitation.)It don't take much air to break a prop loose. This might not make a big differance and probably none on top(since it will mostly run below the shaft) but now I know it's done..

Hmm?PEERPSI you are runnin at 8mm,but you are spinnig more pitch.Correct? Dockman,Is it hookin up or blowing out?Too much slipp?I wonder if you could run higher and pitch up?(without needing more power.)On one of my others I was able to run more pitch and a smaller dia,.(It would blow out but made it up on top) Sorry if this is beatin a dead horse I'm tryin to catch up and I'm Thinkin out loud again.LOL.

RE: Old School Dumas Scarab Resto
Wow! My first gas boat was a dumas scarab like this build.I changed it over from a OS 9.0 to a homelite and went with a surface drive. It's how I got hooked on gas.It actually handled Lake-O pretty well.(We are up at the 42 mi mark though!)A friend of mine has it now in Camdenton. Nice build! Thanks for sharing it! Showme.

RE: Any body here into real boats?
This one was a blast!I sold it recently. It's a 20ft seebold eagle with a 300gt v/8 outboard. It was set up rite, hotfoot, wheel mount tilt /trim,ect,.It was good for triple didgets,or was a rockett with a prop change.I'll get another one. We set it up at our marina, and ran several motors on it.the v/8 was one of the funnest. RE: Show Off Your Ride!!!
Here's my project and baby.Hammerhead restarted life as a disgarded and ruined 71 corvette convertable.Just what I wanted.Car now rides on C-4 suspension,I built a one off tilt front and modded the body my way.It was nonrestorable.Power came from a twin turboed sbc,but is in the process of getting a 6.0 ls1 with twins also. In the quest for more power and since it was far from finnished anyways it's ls1 time.I need to built turbo headers for it and install intercoolers. The fuel system is gettin close.Hope to be back on the road by spring.Someday it might even see real paint.(It could happen!??)

It needed a few small parts to get it going again. They like every thing else, but not the mower???
ORIGINAL: Dockman The next time you come down to the lake let me know. I have a really nice pond to run my boat at and I'll take you there. You can try my prop and use my gps, after we play we'll hit Oh Tommy's for a cold one. The next time I go test I wil be trying the 8mm strut also (as per PEERPSI recommendation). I' am not a guy that keeps secrets about my setups so let's go learn and have some fun at the same time.
Sounds great! I have not got to mess with the boat today, but I'm gonna try later.I was pokin around my hobby room in the garage and got to messin with one of my 1/4 scale gas cars (sprint)that also runs a modded zehnoa. It had not been started for a while so I played with it a while instead of the boat.I don't have room to run it here either.I would like to Gps it someday too.I need to get one!

RE: Proboat Blackjack 55 Catamaran
On my big tunnels I would bring the prop up as high as I could till it blew out, then down just enough to take a set. They would blow out under a hard acceleration too,but flew on top! Most of my V-hulls and pad style boats were similar. As for the props,I would go up in pitch till the speed dropped off.I would lose a few rpms but as long as the speed increased it was all good.(Unless I was drag racing.Thats another deal.)

RE: Proboat Blackjack 55 Catamaran
I got to get my black jack wet for the first time.I took it to Rocky hollow in Excelsior springs. It is a small lake where they race boats here.the water was glass. The boat has not been set up by me.I left it alone till I ran it to see where it is at by previous owner. The motor has been modded and seems to turn on pretty good(piston, head, intake carb, ect,).I have no way to check the rpms or speeds here.Compared to previous boats I would say maybey 40mph tops!(Just eyeballin)The motor was screamin for more prop. The boat would blow it out during accel, then take a set and go.The hull wants to bow hook and actually snapped a rudder off.(I was going to change them out anyway.)Strut might be a lttle high as the boat tries to lift the transom in the corners and does a little chine walkin under blowout, but will set the prop.I brought in some algea(Seaweed)but did'nt clip anything solid.I need to do some setup work and start a log to keep track of changes. The prop is the prather 270 and has not been touched yet.(still has slag lines)The strut sets @ 1/8 above the bracket on top.The bracket is mounted @ 3/8 above the tunnel. How does this compare to others here?I need a good prop to load the motor and air out the hull..All of my props are two blade that I have and 150mi away.(At the lake house)I'm leaning towards a three blade.I need something to get me closer as it seems pointless to make too many changes with this prop.I have been taking notes on some of yours so far.Sugestions, and thoughts are allways wellcome.

RE: LLumar 1/8th topic
I just sold my 1/8 miss lumar last week.It was a great lookin boat and fun to drive.I must agree that 35mph is closer to top on stock setup. The hulls will crack at the seams very easy.(repairable but disappointing)Still for a rtr it is a nice easy to run rig that will turn heads.I never had a issue with the motor or radio gear.(Spun a few shafts.)Find a good safe way to transport it and you will have a good time with it.You can make it faster, with a few changes.May not be race a race boat but,you can make it fast enough to keep it fun.

RE: Proboat Blackjack 55 Catamaran
Dockman,I used to live down there. We still have a place just up from the smelter past the island and across from eagles rock where my folks live.Lake rd 7-9. Sounds like fun to hook up and run the boats.I use to own a house that was close to the smelter 2nd tier.

RE: Proboat Blackjack 55 Catamaran
I have allways built my boats, but I have had a proboat hydro too that I just sold.(It was a little weak at the seams)but it ran good for a rtr.I have yet to put the BJ55 through it paces and it will get modded like the rest.Time will tell, but thats half the fun of this hobby.

RE: Proboat Blackjack 55 Catamaran
Hey guys,I have been tracking this from the start.I must say that If this rig is holding up on lake O for Dockman then it's pretty tuff! I have beat several hulls up in that area. Even a few full size tunnels I've had have it rough there.Dockman,do you run in the back of bollinger creek?
