RE: Toki Ducty JetCat P-20 Video..
You need to be landing as slow as possible to avoid the bounce. I'm not sure if you've flown deltas much but they don't land like normal models. If you're not holding a lot (almost all) of up elevator on touchdown then you're not slow enough. The Ducty will float on forever and if you try and force it down early it won't like it.

RE: DEDICATED JET FOR P20,WHEN
Chicken and egg?? Are people going away from P20s through choice, or because they can't find many decent airframes to put them in? A P20 isn't any more expensive than many other engines and if you calculate a 'cost per flight' basis then my P20s are probably the best value engines I own. I would be interested in dedicated P20 airframes or professional conversion kits (such as those made by Marc for the Habu 32) but there just doesn't seem to be much around. Unless you want to convert something from the likes of HobbyKing or Nitroplanes you are pretty much stumped.

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video
You think a company like CARF make different shape wings...can't drink my morning coffee I'm smiling so much. This thread really has lost it!
In full scale aviation I have seen highly professional companies release a whole batch of faulty parts on more than one occasion. One of the faulty batch of parts that I saw meant that when the component failed (which it frequently did) the engine couldn't be started, so all of the aircrew were taught how to change this part, and spare parts and tools were carried on the aircraft at all times. If it can happen to a full scale aviation manufacturer, with all the QC and regulations that they are bound by, then I don't see why CARF can be considered immune from ever making a mistake. It was unlikely to be the case and, as I stated in my previous post, the few problems that people are experiencing are probably due to setup and flying style, but it was possible which is why I asked the question. If Dave says that all the moulds are fine then that's my question answered.

RE: Toki Ducty JetCat P-20 Video..
You shouldn't need to shim the engine if it is parallel with the bottom wing skin. I've just checked mine and I have a shade over 30mm elevator travel (20mm for ailerons) with some expo. I think you can afford to increase your elevator throw, especially with your c.g. I hold a lot of up elevator on the take off run (almost full up) to get the nose to unstick.

RE: Toki Ducty JetCat P-20 Video..
Also, why shim the rear of turbine and not the front? By shimming the front wouldn't it want to give the aircraft lift rather than push it down? Just curious.
If you shim the back of the turbine up then it will push down at the back, which lifts the nose up. If you shim the engine so it is pointing down then it will push the nose down. How much elevator travel do you have? Maybe a bit more 'up' throw will help to lift the nose.

RE: C-ARF Ultra Flash build Thread + Video
I'm guessing that the differences are just due to people's setups and flying styles but seeing as there seem to be 2 distinct groups of experiences with this model makes me wonder, do CARF only have one mould/jig for the wing? If there are more than one, is it possible that one of them is different to another? Are all Ultra Flashes the same?

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
I see that CARF have discontinued the Hawk combo deal [&o] This has effectively raised the cost of a Hawk by over 400 Euros overnight. It's a shame as that was one of the few reasonably priced quality jets left in the market.

RE: New turnigy/hobbyking powerbox systems
To me, it appears that the servo voltage is adjustable on 'all' channels (i.e. not individual channels). I may well be wrong though! Is there much more in there than a couple of voltage regulators and a case?

RE: JETPOWER 2012 products WOW !
Thanks Ali, I thought that might be the case. I'm not a great fan of hand-launching but that's not the major problem. I am in the fortunate position where I, almost exclusively, fly from tarmac so getting it back undamaged is the issue[&o] I'll have a think about what I can do with it as I have been waiting for this since I saw the first picture a couple of years back. Hopefully Airworld will update their website with more details soon (although I'm not expecting much more info[;)]). Sorry to hijack the thread. Any more new toys released over the weekend?

RE: Hobbyking BD5 for Jetcat P20
Thanks for the info. From the specs listed on the websites, the BD-5 has less wing area than the Habu 32 so I'm not sure it would be much fun with the weight of a Wren 44 or P60. If the layup is a bit heavy for the P20 then I'll give it a miss, which is a shame as it looks quite good. I might have to get my Jet Teng Hawk out of it's box instead[;)]

Hobbyking BD5 for Jetcat P20
I'm thinking of moving one of my P20s into a new model and have been looking at available options. Has anyone got one of the Hobbyking BD-5s in their hands? Does it look like it might work with a P20 or is it too big/heavy? http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__20981__BD_5_Fiberglass_Sport_90mm_Jet_w_Flaps_1200mm_ARF_.html

RE: NEW Jetcat P200 RX ?
They also need to update the P60 (and the turboprop). Selling these engines with the old brick sized ECU seems silly now that the larger engines have the V10.

RE: New Wren turbines 140 and 180
I don't really understand the US pricing for the Wren Jubilee. In the UK it is £1200 which is an awesome deal. For comparison, the Jets Munt VT80 is about £1500. In the US the price is $2000 and you can get a VT80 for that. Taking the £1200 and taking off UK VAT and then converting it to dollars gives approximately $1600. Does it cost $400 to ship and import an engine from the UK?

RE: Question for P100-RX Owners
That sounds like a smokescreen to me. If you raise the point in the throttle curve at which acceleration rate increases then the spool time will be slower. Whether that can be noticed in practical use is another question. If what Bob says is true then it begs the question why Jetcat bother with a normal or fast setting if it doesn't make any difference. It sounds to me that Jetcat's terminology is spot on and Bob is just trying to make you feel better about having your turbine set to 'very slow'.

RE: Florida Jets 2012
I've been a bit slow and have just managed to get hold of a copy of this. I was expecting great things from SKS but I must say that I was thoroughly disappointed. I haven't even got round to watching the flying as the interview sequences are so bad that I can't face watching any more of it. I know it was windy but the shots are so wobbly that watching it was making me feel sick. I'm not sure if they were using a tripod but, if not, then they need to buy one. If they were then they need a better one[;)] This one will probably go to the back of the cupboard never to be watched again[&o]

RE: CARF Flash pricing
That logic doesn't fully work as the C-ARF factory is in Thailand. That means that if the Euro dropped then manufacturing would becoming more expensive (assuming that payment is in USD or the the Euro has similarly fallen against the local currency). Jetcat is a German company manufacturing their engines in Germany so the comparison can't be made.

RE: NEW SEBA JET - AVANTIS
This looks really nice but the Area 51 website is showing it as £1830 'airframe only'. If this means with no gear (as it usually does) then it is more expensive than an Ultra Flash. The details on the website are still very limited so maybe this will change before release.

RE: Jetmach Sport E for Kolibri
Yes it did fly a few times but there is no video unfortunately. It needed pretty much full power on the Kolibri to be comfortable. Whether this was due to the weight/drag, low power of the Kolibri, or just my perception I'm not sure. Other than that it flew ok. I was quite surprised that the little E-Flite gear coped so well on a hard runway even with the relatively high weight. After a few flights the Kolibri was sold and I retired the airframe. It was a fun little project though[:D].

RE: Jet Product Supply Monopolies
Now the truth comes out[;)] You have to ask yourself if you are actually helping the jet community or harming it with your actions. You may be offering products at a cheaper price but at what long-term cost? Do you really think the modelling community will appreciate having the established retailers being put out of business for your (and similar garden shed companies) part-time amusement? Sure, competition is good but it should be done on a level playing field. Why don't you start up a full-time distribution business, with associated salary and infrastructure costs, and then try to compete on price. I assume that all your accounting is being accurately presented to HMRC[X(]. To me, as a consumer, your approach is not honourable or welcomed. I for one won't buy anything now from Modellbau UK if your whole aim is to undercut those that have served the modelling community so well so far. Edited due to crossed posts.

RE: Jet Product Supply Monopolies
I can't understand why a manufacturer would give sole distribution rights to one distributor selling the product direct to the consumer if what you say in your last statement is true. This does happen, just interested to know why
A single distributor being allocated rights to a manufacturers product isn't a monopoly if there are alternative products available. For instance, company A is given sole rights to distribute BVM and sells the Bandit ARF. This isn't a monopoly if you can buy an Ultra Flash from company B. The important point being that you are not forced into a position where you have to buy one product with no alternative. i.e. you have a choice. A manufacturer may elect to use a single distributor for a number of reasons including customer service (knowledge, experience, spares availability and level of support) and to better regulate the retail price. If it is a 'premium' brand then they may want to do this to maintain their status as a premium brand. When are we going to see a second distributor for ModellbauUSA products in the UK? [;)]

RE: Jet Product Supply Monopolies
Your question seems to be 'are monopolies a good thing'? Well if they were then there wouldn't be a monopolies commission in the UK, would there? You're fishing for something and I bet within 24 hours we'll discover what it is. Also, your question isn't very clear. You seem to be implying that it could be possible to have one source of every product on the market which will never be the case. There is choice in almost everything you can buy in the jet world so there aren't any real monopolies as far as I can tell.
