RE: JAS-39 Gripen Owners/Build Thread
Alasdair, May possibly be attending Elvington, but not with the Gripen .... It needs replacement Pins on the retracts, I had Titianium pins sorted, but they seem to be worse than the Hardened steel ones ... If I go Ill take my Starfighter .. I had to remount the steering servo to make room for the trailing link but nothing to difficult, it wasnt for the shockingly poor quality of the Skymaster retracts this model would have had so many more flights ... I had a mate make my one, he did and ace job .... £35 including the wheel! One of it flying with the old leg ... just to prove to myself it does fly ... Scott.

RE: JAS-39 Gripen Owners/Build Thread
Alasdair, I had numerious issues with my gripen noseleg ....I too substituted the long spindley nose leg for a trailing link version that is more robust. I was having issues with mine just going over rough concrete / tarmac joins and small grass tuffts ... the last straw was an off rough experience after a fast taxi back that bent pin .. I would change it ... mines 23lbs wet ... Scott.

RE: The New JR XG 11 Transmitter DMSS
We have a club member with one ... he changed after a period of massive attrition along with a massive exodus from his spektrum stuff ... he’s been using for a couple of months now and loves it ... the bind / rebind is instant - I use fasst but was very impressed with the look and the functionality and it had the same quality feel as my old 10x. If I were to change I would definitely consider the new JR DMSS ... Scott.

I would not put Spektrum stuff anywhere near a Jet, im still seeing anomalies in fellow flyers at various clubs that have casued crashed with even this far down the line with DX8's etc... if they cant get those right what chance do they have with more complicated radios .... Ive had a Futaba 10CG for 2 years and and fellow jet flyer has had one for a couple of years after migrating away from spektrum also, not a single issue ... its all about the confidence in the equipment for me above how many channnels they have and telemetry etc ... Had another jet flyer friend using a DSX9 with the Spektrum power safe RX's put 3 jets in in as many months only to sell it all and go out an buy a JR11XG ... go figure ... Futaba stuff just works in my experience ... Scott.

RE: JetCat Startmotor Specs
hmmm.. I think I get what Bennie, DB and Skycat mean ... V=IR ECU = 12.6 volt Can Supply 20amps Motor 6v Drop 6.6v V/I=6.6volts/20amp=0.33Ω V/I=6.6volts/10amp=0.66Ω V/I=6.6volts/05amp=1.32Ω 10/05 6.6x5=30 watts ECU = 16.8 volt Can Supply 20amps Motor 6v Drop 10.8v V/I=10.8volts/20amp=0.54Ω V/I=10.8volts/10amp=1.08Ω V/I=10.8volts/05amp=2.16Ω The old ECU battery is a 10cell Mimh so is 12.5v so im thinking 3Cell would be better .... any thoughts on the above? RE: JetCat Startmotor Specs
Having tested the startermotor on a 5cell 6v (6.54v) it was drawing just over 20 amps for a breif moment dropping to about 13amps or so one spinning .... the watts were about 95 watts at peak ... Im considering going back to running the ECU @12 Volts .... be easier to step down from 12 volts ( 3s 12.60v ) to 6 volts ... DW must be correct about the voltage supplied to the JetCat starter if below is the motor used ... Graupner Speed 300 6V (3306) Micro hi-performance motor, ideal for small model boats. Provides good performance already at a mere 1.2 V Specification: Nominal voltage 6V Operating voltage range 1.2-6 V No-load speed 29000 No-load current drain 0.7A Current drain at max. efficiency 5A Stall current 28A Max. efficiency excl. gearbox 65% Permissible directions of rotation L and R Case length excl. shaft 30.8mm Case diameter 24.4mm Free shaft length 7mm Shaft diameter 2mm Weight 50g Part No: G3306 Scott.

RE: JetCat Startmotor Specs
Its an air start that im converting, but the V2 ecu has the Electric start capabilities ... I set it to E start and soldered the wires on and went for a test the starter turned but only briefly and only once .. it had been sent to Amt and he had repaired it. Below is the response from Bennie, im sure it wasnt a direct short as the starter definately spun Subject: Re: AMT Mercury Starter motor   Hi Scott, The ECU is repaired and ready for shipping back to you today, we will use registered mail. The starter output of the ECU PCB was damaged most likely by short circuit of that output. Also the 2 leads to that output were poorly soldered, anyhow we fixed that all and did run an Mercury engine with that ECU and all worked OK. Scott :-)

RE: So close but yet so far
ORIGINAL: erbroens IMHO if you want to fly, it is cheaper and better to buy a turbine in wich this development was already done. Believe me, you have a lot to learn and things to pay attention while flying a HS. you don´t need extra workload with the engine issues while learning to fly. [;)] Best regards, Enrique.
Very good advice .... Scott.

RE: JetCat Startmotor Specs
ORIGINAL: dbsonic Its too bad they didnt tell you how much current the ECU could source but lets assume less than 1 amp. Start off by assuming you drop the entire voltage across that resistor (the motor a short). And size it accordingly. if you are really supplied by a 4s lipo then that is roughly 16volts so start off with 100ohm. So thats only 160mA and should do no harm and see if that spins your motor sufficiently. Then work down to a 50ohm and perhaps maybe as low as 10ohm. my 2 cents.
db thanks for the advice .... I dont suppose you can tell me how you came to the above conclusion? I dont mind you treating me as if im thick [;)] Scott.

RE: JetCat Startmotor Specs
Just had an email response from Bennie ....the man is right geaser ... Can any of you electric guru confirm if the required resistor from the email response is correct please, obviously when I tryed it last time it damaged the ECU as the starter still works ... "The start motor output from the ECU is equal to the supply voltage (4SLiPo). When you use a electric motor like the 280, it is best to put a resistor in one of the starter cables to limit the current and so protect the ECU and also the 280. What kind of resistor I do not know, I guess something like 1 Ohm/5 Watt could work." Many thanks, Scott.

RE: JetCat Startmotor Specs
ORIGINAL: jetnuno Hi What matters is what tension the ECU delivers to the motor. Did you measured the starter motor tension while running? A 6V speed 300 won't fry with a 6 cell pack running a starter motor in a turbine. I believe the motor is a slighly modified speed 300, but the same motor as fuel pump. Regards Nuno
Nuno ... I dont understand the term "tension" please explain. Regards, Scott.

RE: JetCat Startmotor Specs
Alan, I think I understand what your saying ... it did actually turn the starter over once then never again (hence the trip to AMT and the above text) I dont want to have the repaired unit damaged due to the stater being of the incorrect specs .... Its a jetcat one (a fraction of the price) brushed (2 wires) ... I think is a 280??? Being that it turned over once doe that mean to say that it may not have been shorted due to the soldering on the board but due to the starter specs? I have been using the starter with 6cell 7.2v nimh for starting through a relay on the ASU with out an issue, but the ECU does have E start capabilities hence the above experiment ... May opt for a fadec from Gaspar? Scott.
