Boomerang nano thrust line problem?
I have some interesting flight characteristics. Frankly I don't have any experience with setup problems like this, but am sure you guys do :) On 2/3rds throttle the plane is trimmed fine, but requires quite a lot of nose down trim (approximately half of the available trim). But when I fly upside down it wants to fly into the ground, and you have to hold the nose up. On full throttle the plane wants to climb quite a lot. When I cut the throttle to idle the plane want to dive . I thought it was a COG problem, and I moved the cog forward by adding lead to the nose area. Its now at 285mm 11 1/4" forward of the wing/flap trailing edge (header full, main tank 1/2"), which I think is considered optimal. This mean I could reduce some of the nose down trim, but the problem persists. I am now starting to wonder if it could be a thrust line problem. My turbine is currently angled 4 degrees down (as measured by iPhone!) relative to the top part of the airframe (where it joins the canopy). Is it a classic thrust line problem? Is there a link to the proper way to measure the thrust line? I know others here have lots of experience sorting problem like this, so I am open to any advice. Its not a huge problem, and I realise I can fly round it, but I would be nice to feel like it wants to fly upside down !

RE: Spektrum DX18
ORIGINAL: c_makhija Hi Guys posting this for a friend of mine. I have last week purchased a Spektrum DX-18 Transmitter and want to BIND 2 Spektrun AR-9300 Receivers to be used in one model. I have repeatedly tried but always either the first Rx binds OR the second Receiver Binds but both Never bind together with the Tx. Is it possible to Bind 2 Receivers together with the DX-18 Tx so they can be used in 1 model. I own a 12X and have successfully managed to bind 2 Rxs to one model so i do not know why the the DX 18 would be any different. Thanks Chatty.
No I don't think it is possible to do that. The whole point of binding is so only one transmitter model choice controls one model. Why the hell woiuld you need 2 receivers when you have an 18 channel setup?

Just a quick thank you to all those at Long Marston. I have yet to meet a nicer more helpful bunch of people. The weather was really good, and the flying quite entertaining. Whoever was doing the massive rolling loop, well done that man, that was frigging awesome !!! :) Now I just have to get my b cert and join the JMA ie. basically get organised. You guys should have a good day today, in fact the biggest problem may be sunburn ! (lets hope so!).

RE: What can cause a turbine to overheat?
I had exactly this problem recently. It turned out I was losing compressor efficiency due to losing a bit of compressor blade. Wren also changed the combustion chamber as the injectors were burnt out due to age.

RE: Has the extreme Heat stopped your flying
That so funny. As marc has said in the UK the weather is crap, we have had the wettest June for 100 years. In the west midlands right now we are in the process of receiving a month of rainfall in the next 48 hours. In that context the notion of sun stopping you flying is hilarious :) :) :)

RE: Hobby King turbine!
I was in the states only a few weeks ago and the most amazing thing happened. I told a colleague I had a diesel car in the UK. He literally laughed his head off, going round the office telling others. His argument was why would anyone want one of those slow, noisy, smokey engines. There was literally no point trying to explain to him that diesels haven't made smoke for around the last 5 years. Whats more they are not noisy anymore due to new injector technology, and their power output now exceeds that of an equivalent petrol engine (albiet turboless). I guess $9 a gallon in europe causes improvements like that. I was reading other posts about American made technology being superior etc. etc. (specifically castle creations ESC's). Which I found ironic due to their recent worldwide recall of the ICE 120 HV due to the fires they were causing and subsequent destruction of carbon fibre 3d helicopters (google it if you like). My point is lets not jump to conclusions. This particular forum is really fast to bash new products (especially if made in the far east).I am not trying to bash US citizens with sweeping statements (sorry if it reads that way) but lets be open minded. A turbine is basically a simple device with only a few key parts (requiring aerospace levels of quality control). If they can nail those parts, then it only depends on the after sales service. They are making assurances that parts and servicing will be available. I for one will be keeping an eye on its reliability, and after sales care. If it stands up I may consider getting one in the future. What I won't be doing is expressing my opinions without any idea of the product performance, or after sales care (which I concede is critical for turbine ownership).

I will try swapping them rounding a few days. Do other gas start Wrens have the fuel line as green?

RE: What happened to my turbine (video)
OK I have traced the fuel and gas line and they are going to the correct unions. The fuel line is green on my supersport and the gas line is transparent which makes connecting them up easier. I also checked the gas and fuel solenoid is plugged into the correct respective ECU output. Also there is no kinks in the fuel line, so a bit stumped. It was test ran at the factory, so not sure what the problem is?

OK annoyingly I got my newly rebuilt supersport fitted after a new combustion chamber and compressor , but now there seems to be a big problem! Namely big flames and it won't rev beyond 40k (at all). What can I do ? Is it not switching over to kerosene ? It seems stuck on the fuel ramp and won't rev (not to mention the flames!!!!)

RE: Spektrum DX18
ORIGINAL: ww2birds John, Not meant to be calling out a shortcoming of the DX18, just saying it would be cool to have the telemetry data be able to take some ''action'' in operations of the TX. Even something simple like an alarm once we can telemeter fuel level. Dan Gill is working on a system that should be able to do that. Seems like the logical next step for someone to take. I never used failsafes on my warbirds either, but started using them on my jets .. I am not sure that's very logical .. but it's much more common to use them in the jet community than other places. The peace of mind is nice .. I've seen it help avoid issues on many occasions .. on other people's planes of course .. none of mine have any leaks (haha!) thanks Dave
I have a DX8 and run telemetry with it. You can program it to give and audible alarm with or without vibrate function based on the sensor reading hitting your pre programmed limit. The screen shows the telemetry readings while flying, and also max readings on landing. For example the transmitter will go crazy if the Receiver pack goes below a certain voltage etc. Currently the only telemetry sensors are: 40G GFORCE SENSOR 8G GFORCE SENSOR ALTIMETER AIRSPEED BRUSHLESS RPM TEMPERATURE PACK VOLTAGE RPM SENSOR http://www.spektrumrc.com/DSM/Products/airTelemetry.aspx I thought there was a GPS one in the works (or out already). Of course you can also log your sensor readings with an iphone using their adapter http://www.spektrumrc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=SPMTR1000

Humm I took a picture of the compressor, and it looks like it started rubbing (particularly the dark grey area at the back of the compressor?) I was running Castrol TTS at 4.2%. How much damage are we talking? Is it worth sending back to wren. Is it going to be more than £500 to fix do you think?

What happened to my turbine (video)
I was flying my boomerang Nano with a Mk1 wren supersport yesterday. It was the 5th flight of the day and I was loviing it! That was until the turbine seemed to cut out with a real whine. After 11 seconds it seemed to spool back up, but by then I was committed to a landing. When I got to it it was happily idling. Subsequent power runs show it it running fine if a bit hot. After 40 seconds of full throttle it will hold at 752 degrees centigrade. 15 seconds of full throttle it will hold at about 730 degrees. Did the EGT exceeded its temp limit and the turbine cut to idle ? It now sounds a bit different at half throttle. The bearings sound fine as its spooling down. I was running a Foreign object screen. I did email wren a few months ago to check if it was ok it ran at 720 degrees. The reply I got was that it's fine, and not to mess with the ecu if it's delivering good power. Should I send it back to wren for a strip down? I bought it second hand and it has supposedly only done 45 5 minute flights since its last check over at wren. The video is below, and advice would be greatly appreciated, I know many on this forum have much more experience with turbines. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOs74reNnTM&feature=youtu.be
