Engine Service
Have an old JG100 that I need serviced. Contacted Carlos at RTI and he said he does not work on them anymore. Can you guys give me some recommendations on who to send the motor too? I just really need the compressor nut changed from a flat one to a cone so I can finish converting it to full remote start. thanks Patrick
ORIGINAL: JLB I've been looking for a place to buy some A123 cells or packs but they seem to be getting scarce. I have purchased a few packs from SinCity but they, along with most folks that sell A123 packs, are out of stock and have been for a while now. I have a few VPX packs but looking for 2300's. Any suggestions for a good place to look ? Thanks.
I bought two packs from electrodynamics. Great service and the packs were to me very quickly. Patrick

Thank you to a great jet guy.
A few weeks ago I was tasked with giving a presentation of a new content distribution system that the school I am working for is going to be using. I could not find any really good HD content to demo so I put a call out to SDCrashmaster (Paul) for a copy of his CA Jets 08 movie in full HD. I explained what it was for and he agreed to send me a copy via my FTP site. After he spent several hours uploading the video to me I had a copy of it. I had our resident video GURUS convert it from MOV to WMV HD, which is the format I have to use. The time for the presentation came last week and I had the monitors setup, A 57, a 46, and two 52" HD 1080p monitors. I started out with about 10 minutes of various content across the 4 monitors and then 1 by 1 they all switched to the CA Jets 08 movie. The 46" and the 57" monitors were playing it at the same time on different sides of the room but the two 52" monitors which were side by side had the movie spanned across them so it was like 1 big 104" screen of JETS. I have to say during the other content that was playing people were chatting and asking questions about the system but the minute the jet video was playing across the two 52" monitors all quesitons stopped. Everyone was amazed at the capability of the monitors and the capability of the jets on the screen. The presentation was a huge success and my director came up later that afternoon and congratulated me on an excellent presentation, especially my content selection. So I just wanted to say THANK YOU to SDCrashmaster for his help. He is the perfect example of what this hobby is all about. I asked him for help and he responded without hesitation to provide me with what I needed. Patrick.

RE: wiring an a123 battery
Thanks EdwardB. After seeing your reply I was quite doubtful that it was there but I found it and for any others that may miss it. If there are unused node wires extending from the FMA Node Connector: Cut unused wires where they exit the connector, or Cut bare wire from the free ends of the node wires, then tape the free ends securely inside the pack. I have a 2s A123 battery with the JR 3 wire charge/balance lead. I would like to change that to a fma cell pro charge/balance lead. I know how to wire positive and negative and the 1 tap. but what do I do with the other wires that are coming off the fma balance lead? I am not sure if I wrap the individual ends that are left over with shrink wrap then bundle them up or what. Any help would be helpful and a picture of how to do it would be super. Thanks Patrick

Hey was wondering if I could get some feed back on the guys at Sin City Jets. I want to order some stuff from them but I have called twice and get an answering machine and no calls back. I have also sent email but no reply to that. I know some of you have dealt with them and I want to get opinions on your experiences with them. As of right now I don't think I would order from them due to lack of communications. If I am having this much trouble contacting them about buying a product of theirs what difficulty am I going to have if I have to call them about a problem with an order I have in my possession. Anything good or bad you have to say might be helpful. Patrick
ORIGINAL: Silent-AV8R
ORIGINAL: pilotpete2 Would you please post exactly what you read that makes you think the FASST system has a "problem"?
I think I can help. Hitec makes servos that do not work with some Futaba radios. Clearly Futaba's fault!! What other possible explanation could there be. Some people who have installed and operated their 6014 FASST RXs beyond what Futaba recommends (in high heat environments) have had spurious issues. Again, clearly Futaba's fault. Any equipment problem is ALWAYS the fault of equipment itself and NEVER the fault of the person using it. Perhaps it is you who needs help in understanding simple basic modeler logic?? [8|]
Silent-AV8R, Let me understand this correctly, you mean if a chainsaw chops off some morons leg because he was using it improperly it is NOT his fault, but the fault of the chainsaw and the chainsaw manufacturer or if I am driving 100 miles an hour down the freeway in rush hour traffic its not my fault if I get into an accident. I have to say thanks for clearing that up I went through life using common sense now I can stop because I can go ahead and behave like a senseless idiot and blame all of it on the equipment and manufacturer. Once again common sense here rules. Futaba is not to blame if you guys use your equipment beyond what they say. Rule of thumb should be, if it is too hot for a person to be standing in the sun you should not leave your equipment in the sun.

RE: Futaba 6014 receiver heat issue
ORIGINAL: dick Hanson High temps and electronics are nothing new go under the hood of a modern auto - on a summer day you will find 160 I was repairing a Ford Explorer-with a damaged front left fender - what do you thinkl I found under the fender skirting -outside the engine compartment? yep - a module - for the brakes. I can't beleive Futaba did a setup which won't withstand the heat in fuselages . Did they? this kind of thing should never make it past basic design.if indeed it did
I understand that the temps under the hood of a car are extreme but you know what when engineers are designing the electronics that go under the hood of a car they take that into consideration. How do I know this because I have a buddy that builds hardened cases for electronics. His job used to be determining if the electronics under the hood of a car could take the heat. If not they would either move it or put a hardened case on it to take the heat. He now designs the same things for the space program. Futaba probably never thought there would be a bunch of guys that would let their receivers get up to 160 degrees. Once again, I say this. If I can't stand the heat my airplanes don't need to be in it. Patrick

RE: Futaba 6014 receiver heat issue
This is a test that anyone can do to check to see if your receiver should still work in extreme temps. Go find some place that will get the ambient temperature up to 150-160 degrees, like a paint booth. Then step inside the booth yourself and see how long you last in that environment. My guess is that you would not last that long and would want to exit as soon as possible. So with that being said, do you think it is reasonable to subject your airplanes and sensitive electronics to that same kind of extreme? I said it once and I will say it again if you yourself could not put up with the temperature then why on earth would you have a 200+ dollar receiver in that extreme. I live in Florida and on a hot summer day it can get up to 100+ degrees. You can bet your sweet A$$ that I and my airplanes are under some kind of shaded shelter trying our best to stay cool. I pay alot for my RC gear and don't abuse it. Lets use some common sense here. Futaba is not to blame for someone being an idiot and leaving their airplane sitting and baking in the sun on a 100+ degree day. Just my .02 patrick

RE: Airline Safeties
Can I offer an easier solution to the problem. Take some regular airline and snip off a piece about 1/8" long. Put it over a pair of small needle nose pliers and stretch just enough to get it over the end of your air tubing. work it down the air tubing about 3/8" and put the main tubing on your brass air nipple. then work the small piece of airline back up over the nipple. What you now have is a fitting that is very hard to get off and is pretty much airtight. It takes a little time to do it but once you do a few times you get the hang of it and can move quite quickly through an installation. I have done it this way now for quite some time and have not had one fail me yet. The upside to it is you can make the small pieces out of a piece of airline that might be too short to go anywhere else, thus saving you money. A 3 inch piece will make enough to do a complete airplane. Patrick

RE: is Futaba the only heat related problem?
I have read this whole thread and I live in central florida and I have to tell you that I respect my airplanes and rc equipment enough to ensure that I don't let it sit out in the sun and get anywhere near 140 degrees in the airplane. I understand that the receiver quits at around 140 degrees but in reality why would you let your equipment get that hot? What do you want from futaba, operational temps of -200 degrees farenheit to 1200 degrees farenheit. This is the way I figure it, if it is too hot for me to be in the sun for long periods of time. It's too hot for my airplanes and equipment to sit out in the sun for long periods of time. Lets use a little common sense folks. Patrick

RE: Turbine Restrictions during Burn Bans
I am going to make this short and to the point. I do not agree with sean. Last year we had a turbine aircraft that rolled off the end of the paved runway into tall grass because the pilot landed to hot. It was the dry season and of course he started a fire which burned quite a bit of property. He DID NOT crash, he only rolled the plane into the grass. Our club has a ban on flying when the fire index hits a certain point now. We dont' fly and it is accepted by all the turbine pilots. It's away of ensuring that we protect our field for the future. It is not discrimination but just common sense. patrick
ORIGINAL: jetspud I was thinking about getting this done but dont want them to mess up and then I cant see to fly jets... Any of you guys had the surgery done.... Tell me if you guys have had bad experiance or now somebody that has had a bad experiance David
The question you should really be asking is, "How has Lasik improved your quality of life?" I have worn glasses since I was 12 and trust me it sucks. The last thing I take off and the first thing I put on are my glasses everyday. I hate when I wake up in the middle of the night and can't see if I have 20 mins more sleep or 2 hours more sleep. How about when you break your glasses and dont' have a spare handy. You can't see 5 feet in front of your face and instantly become mildly handicapped. It goes beyond jet flying which is a big part of it but consider the other aspects of your life that it may greatly improve if successful or greatly hinder if you have complications. In all honesty I will get it done here in the near future. My doctor is a reputable guy who is board certified and only does them if you are an exceptional candidate for success, not a ok, or a good, but exceptional. He gives everyone a percentage of what he thinks their success will be and if you are below 80% he will not do your surgery. I have heard of him turning away patients who were really close, he is a stickler but has never had 1 complication in all the years he has been doing it. His reasoning behind it (and these are his words), "Being able to see is precious and I will never chance taking that away from someone to make a few dollars." He charges 2K an eye and I am saving for the procedure but I will feel confident going to him. Whatever you do just stay away from the 199.00 per eye places, that is where you run into problems. Sean, Even though you are a JR man I will post this information which will show you how to make the pump from your initial link. Go and read the following. RE: Need opinions on "Best" starter Jet...
Look for a hotspot they are really good airplanes. They are inexpensive. The turbine is exposed so it will allow you a chance to get use to the operation of it. They will go very very fast but they will also slow down for some nice slow flight. They are forgiving if you make a bad landing. You can power it with a 14lb thrust turbine if you build it light or you can put a 28lb thrust turbine in it and have some fun. It is truly one of the most fun airplanes I have ever flown. Patrick
