RE: Blacken It on Metal Tools
Looks great and thanks for the tip. You might want to also use gun blueing products. Works great and will not come off.

Sturmtiger Airsoft Gun Gear arrangement
I was going to do something different with the main gun, but decided to keep it as is because the gun really fires so well. Will probably add a few leds inside, as there is so much room. Anyhow, I took the gun apart and now can't figure out how to get the gears back in correctly. I looked at some of the pictures here, but still can't get it. Figured it was probably the same as the HL guns, but maybe I am wrong. Anyone have any quidance or pics of theres? Thanks.

RE: 1/12 Abrams A good Tank?
ORIGINAL: Panther G I have the HE LEO as I said before. I rerally do like it but it just needs some work. I cant afford the Tamiya LEO either so i went this route. I have the dimentions for the shaft adapters to use the Tamiya sprockets and tracks and my machinist would be happy to make them for anyone who would like to try it. i'll get some pics up as soon as I can spend a little time on the projcet. Just to many other things need to get done right now.
Panther G, thank you for your input. I might take you up on your machinist's offer, but trying the cheap route first. I know what you mean by so many other projects. Thanks again, and will probably be picking your brain later. Stacy

RE: 1/12 Abrams A good Tank?
ORIGINAL: Panther G No most of the Tamiya parts will not fit. i'm using tamiya tracks and sprockets but i had custom shaft adapters and road wheel spacers machined. It will work but this IS NOT THE EASY way to go. you will need 2 coplete sets of Pershing tacks if you want to go this route, but the Pershing tracks are a little too narrow for my liking. this tank is a nice model, but needs tons of modification to make it a runner.
Thanks for the input Panther G. Well, considering that I will never be able to afford the Tamiya Leopard, then this is pretty much my only solution. I did a shopping list up, and even with the added items, I would only need about $67 in additional gear. Granted, most of it isn't necessary such as the metal gears, recoil unit, etc., but nice to have stuff. I think I am going to take the plunge, as I can't see it being any more complicated then the Tiger 'redo's' I have and am currently doing. I think the hardest part will be mating the new gear boxes with the hull, and ensuring they are 'squared up'. But, the build thread on the Aussie site seems pretty convincing. When I mentioned the ‘Tamiya Parts’ being compatible, I meant the aftermarket detailing parts. How is the plastic on it? Is it along the same lines as HL or Mato? I personally think the Mato plastic is softer then HL. I say this from my only comparison of the Mato Sturmtiger and the HL Tigers, which I have two of. I am about to be a bachelor for 2 months, so figure I will have plenty of time! :)

RE: 1/12 Abrams A good Tank?
ORIGINAL: suprtrpr17674 You shouldn't pay more than $70.00 for a Hobby Engine Abrams Tanks looks at JHCHobby they are out of CA. Just to let you know you are going to pay alot to upgrade the tank to run normal. RCCOMMAND has all the parts to convert to HL parts. You will need to pretty much change everything but the shell of the tank.
suprtrpr17674: Lets say I have a HL Pershing sitting around gathering dust and I purchased the Hobby Engine Leopard from JHCHobby. Would I pretty much have everything I need? I also have a spare RX-18, reciever, etc. This tank seems like it has lots of potential. For $69.00, as long as the shell is OK, guess you can't go wrong....I am guessing that most of the Tamiya aftermarket will probably fit, with some mods I imagine. Thanks. Stacy

Yap, three hours on Saturday and Sunday morning is about all i get to work on my tanks, so that is why I bought them. Looks really good though, and better then the store bought ones as well!

I am kind of slowly thinking twice about the King Tiger....although I really like the Sturmtiger I have, the quality just isn't up to par next to a heng long and I know I wouldn 't be happy with it until I spent a load on it to get up to what I think it should be. Would love to get one of the newer tanks....espcially since both of my tigers were the original RX13 and 14 series. Decisions, decisions, decisions! :) What a great hobby!

RE: The new smoke unit with easy access to oil chamber!
Guys, thanks. I will look at the resistors tonight. It did have plenty of oil and a freshly charged battery. You know, I understand this isn't rocket science, but you would think they could print a small diagram at the cost of a few pennies, and include it! Just a thought...:)

RE: The new smoke unit with easy access to oil chamber!
Got it wired up last night and seemed to work. However, like I said earlier, I received two new ones, and only one of them worked at all. The other one that worked was cracked, so I kitbashed them, and I now have one un-cracked working one. It is quiet, which is nice. When I first give it power, it starts pumping smoke pretty fast, but as the speed increases, it slows down. Is this normal? Also, I ran it at full throttle testing it for about 35 seconds, and man I thought the thing was on fire....that good ole 'e-burn' smell. I don't know, but this thing spooks me. Mato is sending me two more, so I will see how they work. Thank you all for the help! Stacy

RE: The new smoke unit with easy access to oil chamber!
ORIGINAL: chinito_03 i think thats the right wiring.... exactly the same with my smoker.
Yeah, I did the same. I finally got one to work, but honestly I don't trust it. My fully charged battery started dying really quickly, and I started to smell the ole 'electronic burning smell', other then what the smoke reguarlly does. WHEN it was working, it was quiet, and was putting out copius amounts of smoke (well, much more then the original ones). It was really cool to rev up them motors and watch the smoke increase with speed....all of the 35 seconds I trusted it for. Waiting on Mato to ship me some new ones....this was the cracked one I recieved....the perfectly undamaged one never worked. This one however, started pouring smoke out of all of the cracks as well....

RE: The new smoke unit with easy access to oil chamber!
Thanks for the diagrams. OK, now I have some questions about wiring. Everything is pretty self explanatory (where to plug into RX18), but what about the wires that run to the motors? I know one is for positive, one for negative, but do they both hook up to the same motor, one wire to each? And, I am guessing this is the correct way to solder the wire to (see pictures with red circles please) the motors and board? If I am wrong, please let me know. Thanks again for all of your help! BTW, thanks A. for the pics.

Need some detail help please on S-Mine locations and mounting
Finally starting to make some progress on my Early Tiger I. Can someone please show me (or point me to) exactly where the s-mine launchers go? I know the ones that mount on the top of the upper hull (2 on left side, one on right), but I am confused exactly how to mount the extension braces for the ones that are mounted off of the upper hull. Also, any infor how how the wires run from them and where would be great! Thanks!

RE: Drive spocket axle
ORIGINAL: kclank a bench grinder or even a dremel motor with a grinding stone can grind that flat. It could even be hand filed but it will take a bit of time. The metal is only real hard for the first few mils. Of the tools you show you can use the cutter disk for part of it then finish with the stone. take your time and fit check often.
Exactly what kclank said...:) Sorry for a late reply, got busy with the 11 month old! :) Do test fit A LOT. Stacy

Francis I don't know if you have a dremel tool or not, but if you do, then with the metal grinding bit or wheel on it, should only take a few minutes! I am always amazed at how versatile and handy my dremel tool is. Wonderful piece of gear. Take care, Stacy.
