RE: I have problems with my Air Power EVSD-5U-PRO-ST
Hi All, I have similar issues with my EVSD-5U-PRO, list of issues below. My model is powered by a Powerbox Cockpit system @ 6V, running with a FASST system. * After powering on the unit, sometimes it can be in the wrong mode, I use it in Mode 2, and occasionally it starts up in Mode 3. * The brake valve only works intermittently, I've adjusted the EPA on my radio to 140-140 (Futaba 12FG) with no luck. I've always used a water trap while filling, and never filled above 110PSI. I've had other leak issues, but found them to be in other areas, so not really worried about that as it's a issue I can fix. So far I can not find any consistency or trend as to when the system changes mode by itself, or when the brake valve does / does not work. Any help would be appreciated :) Thanks, Rob

RE: Viper Jet 2M Pointers/ tips.
Hey all, Don't like asking "stupid questions" .. but since my brain has gone to mush in the last 20 minutes, I need to ask: Should I measure the deflection of the flaps from the side closest to the fuselage? or closest to the aileron? or the middle? Thanks in advance, Rob

RE: Viper Jet 2M Pointers/ tips.
Hi All, I'm very nearly almost there in terms of finishing my Viperjet 2m.. but as usual, I have some questions: 1. I'm using a P80SE, did anyone need to raise the turbine to align it with the intake? (I mean raise while looking at the fuselage while it is resting upside-down) 2. Can anyone please post pictures or provide a better explanation of how to mount & secure the thrust-tube? Many thanks, Rob

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
Hi Mike, I don't empty my tanks every time, my logic was that my planes are stored in a dark enviroment that the algae typically wouldnt grow in... I will do this from now on. The contaminant is closer to black.. Thanks, Rob

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
Hi all, I have a generic question - how often do you change your clunks / filters etc? I've found that after around 25 flights I need to start changing stuff, my fuel is filtered several times before it is mixed, and after it is mixed it is filtered again before it reaches the fuel tank. The ceramic clunk in my Sprint was nearly completely clogged up and so I changed it (signs of this is reasonably easy to tell - slow startup, more delay in throttle etc). I did notice that the final filter in my fuel lines was perfectly clean and did not need to be changed / cleaned. Can the ceramic ones be cleaned? or are they simply disposable? While it is easy to get at the clunk in the Sprint and other Boomerang, what about other planes? My Viperjet (Under construction) will have 2 fuel tanks that are essentially glued to the fuse, and the clunks may not be easily accessible. Thanks, Rob

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
One last point, or maybe 2.. Definitely get a spotter to keep an eye on time, planes, etc. While setting up to go, let others you trust do some of the mundane things for you.. Carrying stuff etc.. There will be enough for you to do and think about it as it is! And the last point, trust yourself. Try not to let others influence a go-around decision, or even a not to go around decision, this happened to me once when I had a more experienced pilot standing next to me, I second guessed my own decision, and it was too late at that stage, caused me to bend a oleo slightly, when I would've been ok if I stuck to my own judgement! RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
Hi, I thought I'd throw in my 2c.. For my maiden we had no jet pilots flying, we also had never had a turbos powered model fly from our field before, so here's what we did: We made a flight plan, we knew exactly what we wanted to do before, during & after takeoff, we had a number of flight tests to perform, including stalling etc to see what the plane was all about. We made 1 or 2 fast passes..because we could, then settled down and started practising approaches. My flap configuration did not work out as planned, so was scrapped, 5 or 6 approaches later we landed without incident. I think the success to the flight was having a plan of what needed to be done during the maiden flight, and sticking to it as much ad possible. Hope that helps.. Rob

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
I do, but I waited an age for the original jetcat fod guards to arrive - which they have now, and I'm very pleased :) It was never a case of my boomerang wasnt running - I always had the new P80SE in a box waiting to be mounted in my new project :) Just waiting for Jetcat to come back to me as to how much it'll cost to repair the other one.. it wasnt badly damaged, but will probably need a new compressor wheel at minimum..

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
I know that on my Boomerang, I dont have a de-fueling line on my tank, I very rarely drain the tank unless I'm servicing the filters, in which case I drain the tank and the UAT (hopper) through the main feed. I dont know what the shelf life of mixed kerosene in a sealed system is, but I have never had a problem with leaving kerosene in a sealed tank for a couple weeks. 2 great flights this weekend, got a few 'niggles' out of the plane with the flaps down... very pleased with the new P80 that I put in it while I wait for the other one to be returned! Started first time, almost as if there was no other option!!

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
I love my Kero start... pity I didn't start off with a FOD guard on the turbine too, but rather on the intakes... turns out if you leave something plastic in the fuse, and it get sucked into the turbine, you end up having to send it back to JetCat for repairs... And they're really busy at the moment!! another 4 weeks until it arrives back :(

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
Hi, If you have all the other hardware (air/brake tubing, t-pieces etc) I would pipe out the middle wing section leaving a nice bit of extra in the wheel wells and join the middle piece to the fuse as you'll have a bunch of other wiring to do anyway - rudders, aileron, elevator extensions! - That way you should only have to join the air tubes onto the retract & wheel hub and screw down the retract into the wing when they arrive! (sounds easy huh?) Don't forget that you'll probably have to raise the nosewheel to get the angle of attack right :) I'd also pipe out the nosegear section so that you can come as close to fitting the servo tray as possible without having the valves (are they delayed too??) Rgds Rob

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
I know! I got caught up this Saturday - and only ended up fixing the boomerang on Sunday morning!! I got 3 flights in, turns out the clunk in my tank is completely clogged up and we got away very very lightly with no incidents, but my UAT was practically empty on the last flight! PS - look what arrived....

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
I had a bit of a "Ooopsy" on the weekend.... turns out that if you manage to catch a wheel on an electric fence, the plane doesn't win! - Nor did the fence though, so it must be a draw! Anyhow.. Can anyone tell me what covering the Military scheme sprint uses? in particular, the silver colour? Thanks! Rob
