RE: Carbon fiber linkage?
Cool, thank you. Kinda where I was leaning but I have never used a carbon rod and have to because of the retractable tail wheel interfers with the pull pull system.

Carbon fiber linkage?
OK guys give me some advice. I am having to use a carbon fiber rod to control the elevator on my Corsair. How do you guys that use them glue the rod in that the clevis attachs to? CA or epoxy? Or is there a better way?

RE: Are there constant load servos for flaps?
Yes!! My first was perfect before the crash. The landing was a none event but I had to play with the flap position to get it right. I had three positions. Up normal, landing middle, and one all the way down that I would taxi with to show the big three position flps. Loved the look but in trying to land with them the plane would slow down to much for me and try to stall or flair with the power that had to be used at that position. But maybe it is a preference thing. I liked a nice throttle controlled landing. Once I set mine up I hardly had to touch the elevator. Cg was right. I will get some pics today. I am working on the retractable tail wheel setup but will put the wing back on the bench tonight.

RE: Are there constant load servos for flaps?
How are the flaps connected? I have the same plane and just finished the wing. This is my 2nd one. Lost the first one to a engine failure. I have my wing done and the flaps are perfect. I use a metal rod between the middle and outside one and a carbon fiber rod glued into the inside one that angles into the middle one. Being that it drives the other two. I will take some pics today and post them. My first one always hummed at the up position. This one I worked on and adjusted nd readjusted to stop it. One thing I can say look for is not the linkage but where the flap sits up in the wing. They might be hitting the wing when trying to go all the way up.

RE: KMP Corsair
Rate1 I was wondering if you had got you tail wheel in? I got my bulkhead built and am getting ready to install mine. I ran into one problem. The tail hook linkage is running into the bar for the tail. I am thinking of taking it off. I have the rudder installed and pull pull set up on it. Getting the bulkhead in and all the controls connected is going to to be fun. Lol. If I can get some pics to upload I will post them.

ESM Corsair radio setup ?
Hey guys I am planning the setup of my wing for my Corsair. I am not home at the moment but want to order the stuff that I will need to finish it so it will be there when I redeploy home. I will have 2 Aileron servos, 2 Flap servos and Down and locked converted Sierra retracts. I am trying to eliminate the 5 wires that will be coming out of the wing to make it easier to put together at the field. I would like to use Hitec 5645 servos and the Sbus set up. I have an 8FG. First can you use SBus with Retracts and second how would I put Hitec servos on the SBus system. I would need 5 connections in the wing. The reason I am trying this is I have a 8 channel reciever but need 10 at least. Anybody that has worked with SBus, any advice would be helpful. I know nothing about it. Thanks

Futaba SBE-1 S.Bus PWM Adapter question
Trying to find out some info. I have a Corsair that is going to have 8+servos and electric retracts. The wing is going to have 2 aileron, 2 flap servos and main gear that down and locked converted. I am looking for a way to have one connection in the wing if at all possible. Will this PWMAdapter work? Or will the S-Bus system even work with retracts? Any info would be great. Thanks.

RE: ESM Customized P51 Mustang
Condor love the paint scheme. Mine is stock but I did not have time earlier this year to do anything different. I plan on changing some things in the next few months. When I get home I will post some pics of the gear and what Down and locked did. I look forward to seeing the numbers you get from that engine/prop combo. I would love to try the flight metal. How hard is it to put on? Any special tools needed?

RE: ESM Customized P51 Mustang
Hey Condor. I actually have 3 sets of Sierra Retract gear that Down and Locked converted for me. I have a 74"ESM Corsair, 71" ESM Mustang, and a 71" ESM FW-190. The FW-190 has to be built and the Corsair and Mustang gear has to be installed when I get home. I am deployed to Kandahar AB at the moment and will be home in the coming weeks. I sent all the gear off to be converted before I left to be ready when I got home. The FW and 35RA I ordered in the last couple of weeks. What they cost per coversion I could not tell ya. I spent 1264 total and that includes the conversion of 3 sets of gear AND the FW-190 sierra gear. I had Down and Locked order the gear for me and convert it along with the rest. So that prise includes a set of gear and 3 conversions. I was tired of messing with air. I run a 18x8 xoar ww2 prop on the Mustang and I have a G-38 in the Corsair that has a 18x10ww2 xoar. I just love building and flying warbirds. I also ordered a retractable tailwheel for the Corsair that came in a week or so ago. The first pic is me with my shop. thats my mug on the far right with my hat in my pocket.[:)] And the second is the Corsair tailwheel. My wonderful wife took the picture and emailed me. Love that women.

RE: ESM Customized P51 Mustang
Cool Condor. I have this same plane with a DLE30 and Seirra down and locked converted gear. I have wanted to run a four blade prop for awhile and will be looking forward to the build. I have a DLE 35ra that is scheduled to go in an ESM FW-190. I could always swap the engines or maybe convince the wife that i need another 35.[:D][:D] Wonder what that would cost me.[:)] And I have always wanted to do a scale exhaust so I really cant wait to hear yours with the sound. What size 4 Blade do you have in the picture?

RE: 35 or 55 DLE for 80 inch yak
Had the GP 330S Extra with a DL 50 and it was stupid powered. Almost to much for 3D (i know impossible right) but it had a hard time hovering because it just wanted to climb all the time. it was 80" and a little over 16 pounds. Floated great, but I do believe a DLE 35 or OS33 would have been great for that plane. I have since put same engine in a TT Yak 87" and it is great. Still light and will do anything I ask. If you can keep the yak under 14 pounds I belive a 35 would be more than enough for IMAC style flying.

RE: ESM 50cc Corsair
Hey guys some info. I have the 74" ESM version and am thinking of getting a larger one. I am looking at the TF Giant Corsair or the ESM one. What are some of the differances? I would like to run a scale prop so a larger engine or a twin would be in order and will any of the twins fit? I love my Corsair. It has a G-38, Sierra Down and locked converted gear and a custom retractable tail wheel. I just would love to be able to have a larger one that I can do more to. Any advise is welcome. thanks guys. Good luck Captain Ron. Look forward to the flight review.

RE: electronic throttle
ORIGINAL: hsukaria
ORIGINAL: Deandome What, and to whom, are you referring? I...and Wiki (-pedia, not 'leaks)...am saying a computer is not required for FBW (though they're used 99.99% of the time); it's the elimination of a mechanical connection that defines this term. YOU are the one who said YOUR defnition keyed on the use of a computer as an 'intermediary' in the control signal transer. YOUR definition (incorrectly) allows the inclusion of the MD-11 in the FBW category, not Wiki's! The MD-11 used computers to help monitor/tweak/limit the HYDRAULIC control systems. That's not FBW, hydraulics are a mechanical connnection. But when they first tried replacing those connections with the ''control input>convert input to electric signal>send signal via wires to servo-motors>servo-motors move control surface proportionally to signal input'' model...in the 1930s....THAT is/was fly-by-wire.
ORIGINAL: dirtybird Your reference to wikeleaks states a computer is used in Fly by wire. The MD-11 manual control could be called fly by wire according to your definition.
/
The F-16 was the first production aircraft to be FBW. It is not only FBW, it has negative flight stability margin to improve maneuverability (think 3D) and lift. That is why is has those triple redundant flight control computers (used to be quad redundant when it was analog computers). As far as a built-in throttle actuation, besides cost and reliability, you will increase the bulk of the carb. Which for gas it is already bulky enough, and for nitro, the engines are not made to fit bulky carbs. But there are always ways around those issues.
An F-16 without said computers is unflyable. Hince the nickname "lawn dart" . Great aircraft. I am an egress tech on them but unflyable without computers. Nice idea for the carb but don't think it could be made cheap enough to replace a simple servo.

RE: New DLE 35
WD thank you for looking. I am also, but till late next month I am in Afganistan and find it hard to call and ask sometimes. I have emailed valleyview and asked being that I am ordering props and the drill guide through them to be there when I get home. I am like you in that I believe it will be the same as the 30 witch I have 2 of. I have always just bought my props per drilled but I would like to get them with just the center hole now to have the option of using them on my single bolt G-38 if I want to.

RE: Finally rear carb AND rear exhaust!
ORIGINAL: captinjohn Sure that 35cc may fit in anything....but is a Warbird going to balance with it?
Well I am still going to use this in the FW-190 but I do have to agree with you there. I have an ESM Corsair that has a Ralph converted G-38( AWESOME ENGINE). And it still needed 25ozs of lead in the nose to balance. And the engine was 54 ozs by it self. But it is a great combo. When I get home I will have to see how much the FW needs to balance.

RE: Finally rear carb AND rear exhaust!
ORIGINAL: captinjohn
ORIGINAL: dgliderguy Well, it seems the manufacturers of small two-stroke gassers have heard our pleas, and now even DLE is offering their popular engines with a rear carb/rear exhaust configuration. They even have the spark plug facing aft. Yeah, baby!! Now we can squeeze these powerful little powerplants into the narrowest of cowls, without having half it it stick out the sides. http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/DLE35RENGINE.html http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/DLE55RENGINE.html Now if we can just get them to come up with a box mount so we can get rid of those flimsy extensions that tend to crack the mounting lugs...
Who is going to buy a 35cc  china built engine for $350 and find out there ia not many airplanes for a odd diplacement engine??
No planes. A lot of the ESM warbirds will just love this engine. I have a FW-190 waiting at the house when I get home from this dusty a$$ country that I have the pleasure of serving in.[:)] The 35 is going to fit and power it nicely. If is strong enough it might even get a scale 3 blade prop. [:D][:D]

RE: 90 degree or 85 degree retract? P51D arf
I keep hearing that 90 degree retracts will look funny or not work. I use them and just shim them so they are perpendicular to the ground. They will go further up in the wing but to me that looks better. Personal choice.

Mark, I don't remember what size tank came with the Waco, but I have a DLE20 in a Top Flite Mustang. I am using an 8 oz tank and fly for 10 minutes at 1/2 to full throttle. I never have ran out. Always have couple ozs left. I have the DLE 30 in my Waco and just had to cut the cowl on the bottom. I used a jtech wrap around muffler.
