RE: Tsunami adn volcano. Look what I found!
I found some bumpers online at http://www.t-bone-racing.com/id75.html . They look pretty cool! They make them for Redcats and they have them for the front and the rear. They run about $10 a piece.

RE: Need some esc info
There are many brushed ESC's that are great! The Hi-Speed ESC that comes with the Redcats is garbage! I went through 2 of them in less than 2 hours of runtime. Once with the stock setup, and then with a 17t Reedy Radon and a little better battery! The specs that they give you are going to be the specs that the manufacturer wants everyone to think these are capable of. It is just like the MPH ratings of the nitros! What did they say 55 or 65 MPH! Right!

RE: Need some esc info
The stock brushed ESC is garbage! I put a 17 turn motor in my electric Tornado and I have fried 2 stock ESC's! Go brushless or go with another brushed ESC.

RE: transmission question
Here are the pics. If you look the pic of me holding it, you will see that it is a little wider at the shaft. I just filed it down until the E clip fits back in its slot. I haven't had one go out yet!

RE: transmission question
If you have the single gear tranny from clermont, it is part number A444. You will need to file down one side of the shaft a little to get the E clip to go back on the shaft. I will put some pics up in a few.

RE: Warranty on Tornado epx esc?
That is crap! You are a dealer and they won't replace it for you! How can you honestly tell your customers that you have faith in the Redcat products you sell, when Redcat won't help you out when you have a honest problem that they know has happened on more than one occasion. Personally, I wouldn't sell any of the EPX line if I were a dealer! They are very poor quality! The Nitro's are great for the price and then some, but not the electrics that they sell!

I would think that both would have to be hardened steel. If you get one made and it works, let me know how much you want for them!

RE: Anyone with electric redcats yet?
If you have the Volcano EPX, you can use the spur gear from the Tornado or the Lightning. They have a 58T and the Volcano has the 64T. Radio Shack sells a 3400 battery that is pretty cheap. It's a Nmh. Is the Tornado EPX supposed to have tire foams? Mine didn't come with any.

RE: Warranty on Tornado epx esc?
They covered mine, but the second one went after about 20 minutes of driving! I didn't bother complaining to them about the second one! I am just going to replace everything that I can that came from Redcat, and then maybe I will be able to drive it on a regular basis. If you open the case to the ESC and look at the bottom where the battery connectors are soldered to the board, you will probably notice that the solder is messed up. I re-soldered mine and it fixed the problem for a little while.

RE: Redcat Volcano compatiable parts
The HPI 44T spur gear part #A444 will work in the tranny from clermont with a tiny bit of grinding on on side of the shaft so the E clip will fit.

RE: Warranty on Tornado epx esc?
I have fried 2! The first one, I was just driving on my street when it happened! For the 2nd one, I had a different motor and battery because I thought that the first one might have been a fluke since I was only driving it on the street and the ESC probably had about 15 minutes of runtime! The second time, I was running a 17T Reedy Radon with a 27 tooth pinion, the stock is 26T and a 3300 battery! Someone at Redcat recommended that I change the battery and pinion on the stock motor but it didn't last long enough for me to get the parts! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THE STOCK MOTOR OR ESC!

RE: Volcano cheap a%% spur gear fix
I climb some pretty serious dirt hills with mine and it has no problems doing it! I have an aftermarket pipe, header, and airfilter on mine and it climbs the hills almost too fast, and I am talking 15ft hills full of good size rocks and almost too steep to take a real truck up.

RE: realistic reccomendations
I was noticing the other day that my chassis is bent and causing the motor the sit at a funny angle and that is what was eating up my spur gears! A little sturdier chassis would be great! They could even make some braces, like they have on the 1/8 scale R/C's.

RE: Volcano cheap a%% spur gear fix
I am using an hpi 44T spur gear in my Volcano SV, and it seems to be working great. You have to be using the single gear tranny from Clermont. All you need to do is shorten the shaft on the clip side of the gear a little so you can get the clips back on. They make an aluminum one that I might look at to see if I can get it to work.

Single gear tranny.....
If anyone is running the single gear tranny, and you kill a spur gear and don't want to wait for one to be shipped to you, go to your lhs and look for HPI part #A444. You do have to grind away about a 1/8th on an inch of material, but it works! Maybe better than stock because you can pick them up at your local hobby shop for about $4-5.

RE: 1/10th scale problems
Check the clutch! You probably smoked the shoes! Take the clutch bell off and see if the shoes look shiny and discolored. If they are, take some very fine sand paper and scuff the shoes up until they look clean and then do the same to the inside of the clutch bell. Hope this helps!

RE: realistic reccomendations
Would changing the tooth size on the clutch bell change the stress that the motor puts on the the gear? If I went up a tooth, would it put less stress on the spur gear?

RE: realistic reccomendations
Yes! Twice within a month! Could running it on pavement have something to do with it? Maybe since there is no clutch, the tires need to be able to slip a little, like in dirt! I think that a vented clutch bell might help, because the clutch bell is heating up the spur gear and making it softer! I didn't think of that! Maybe we fixed my problem, I hope! Thank you for the help!

RE: realistic reccomendations
I set it with a piece of printer paper. I just want my truck to break a little less than it does now! I would love to buy some more Redcat RC's, but I need find out how to fix the spur gear problem the most! I know that you occasionally have to change out a spur gear no matter what brand you have, but I do it like every other time I run it! I know other people that have the more popular brands and they do it about a 1/4 of the times that I do! Why?

RE: Question for all RedCat owner
I bought my Volcano from that company also! They are no good at giving any sort of advice! They tried to tell me that my Volcano SV had a 2 speed tranny! I called them on it and they told me that it was and they didn't appreciate me telling them that they don't know their own product! You guys can decide for yourselves if you go back to them. I will stick with sellers that know what they are talking about. All of the sellers that I have dealt with that use this forum are great! Send them your business!
