The Record
So what's the record for a club 40 racer. I don't care how fast you and your buddy went, I want a confirmed Race Time. In Texas, Oldbob has a 1:19.68, at the 2008 Champ race. So what's out there?

RE: rule proposals
Well I've been looking at this and have come up with some idea's (or agree with someone others). 424, leave it alone! it works, it's fun and really low cost. It also seem's (in Texas) to be going more to the 2-pole style of racing. But if you have to have a claim rule, make it $200.00 instead, that way someone has to really think before making a claim. 428, there are two path's I like here, and not everyone is going to like them, BUT. 1. set a limit on the bore and stroke of the engines with a max disp. of .40, basically go back to the SS engines and leave then alone. With what SS Nelsons around, and Jett, and Profi able to still produce them, we should have engines for the next 2-4 years, with no problems. 2. Go to a "Spec" engine like the Jett that Dennis proposed last time. It's a good engine, lower cost (vs. a LS Nelson, or Jett). But here's the down side, all the older engines are outlawed, Profi is out with out ever really having a chance, and is Dubb willing to produce engines for us? Either of these would do a couple things for us, one keep 428 a good step above the 424 speeds, like we want. Lower engine costs I feel would bring more new pilots to the 428 class. And then there's the "Slow Down" that many people seem to want in the 428 class. So we run them at 175 vs 190 is it really going to make that big of a difference? I would like good open debate, and something that maybe WE can give to the counsel for our racing future. ERIC DESARDI NMPRA Dist 8 VP

RE: rule proposals
Well we can do it like the old IMCA, to claim a motor you have to finish in certain position. Back then, with car racing, you had to be on the lead lap, and then first to fifth could be claimed. Lets say any of the top five finishers only can claim an engine.

RE: rule proposals
I like the Rossi BUT!! I had one with the old tuned pipe on my first 424, just as a toy. I like the idea of any "Mainstream" (OS, TT, ST, Rossi, etc) engine that's out there today, with a cost limit (TBD), and use tuned pipes. I also like the spec engine Dennis proposed last year, but the only problem with it was, Dubb was the only one willing to change his tooling to make them. If I remember the cost was to be about $250.00 out the door, but I'm sure I'm wrong. [:D]

RE: rule proposals
ORIGINAL: DMyer
I read in a thread on the NMPRA site that there still ''Thousands'' of SS Nelsons around. SO this is what I propose, change the rules to allow only Short Stroke style engines. That would make all the ''Old'' Nelsons able to run up front again, Dubb would be able to take a break from R&D on the LS. Profi would at least have a chance in the market, they were out what, 2 months before the Nelson LS came out and made them into paper weights.
Problem is.... how many old SS Nelsons have got good undamaged cases? Who do you think is going to snatch most of the good ones up real quick to convert to LS 422 Nelsons? A couple thousand cases won't go too far especially when attrition is considered, conversion to 422 LS and some simply are not being straight enough to repair and be competitive. I also don't mind slowing 428 down a bit, but 424 speeds make no sense when that is already covered. Hope the guys working on this have their best thinkin hats on... off the the skunk werks now youens!
Well DM that wasn't addressed in the thread, and again I don't have an answer. IMO there is not an engine out there that can replace the Nelsons, Jetts or Profi's and do the job as well. If there was, we'd already have them.

RE: rule proposals
Well, Hmmm, So the Nelsons are gone, Dubb is overworked, but still making great engines. Profi are Ok engines, but are SS only. I read in a thread on the NMPRA site that there still "Thousands" of SS Nelsons around. SO this is what I propose, change the rules to allow only Short Stroke style engines. That would make all the "Old" Nelsons able to run up front again, Dubb would be able to take a break from R&D on the LS. Profi would at least have a chance in the market, they were out what, 2 months before the Nelson LS came out and made them into paper weights. This is NOT the answer to "What are we gonna do?" but this might get us by for the next rules changes for the 2011-12 seasons. Scott thank you for the proposal 11-2 to use a "stock" engine, but I don't care for it, I have Club 40, and 424 planes, and that's just more of the same. I would be willing to try a .40 size with a tuned pipe of some kind, but I don't think it will measure up to a SS Nelson, Jett or Profi. Now I also know this kills the guys with the LS engines, well as I see it, someone IS going to get the short end of the stick, it's just a matter of who.

Well,,, last season in Texas, the Novice class could run any of the ok'ed engine for that class, and had to run an 11x4 prop. I know this because Chuck and I had a LONG talk about it and I had to go hunting for them on race day for the Novice class. I brought only 10x4's D'oh!!

For "Advanced" or Novice? I know the LA 40 was allowed for the Novice class, and I think the rules call for the 11x4 prop.
