Stryper, Just wondering what specific size cell \ discharge rate you are running with this particular setup. according to what i'm seeing on the Just go fly site, they are showing somewhere around 18 to 20 max amps needed for best performance with this setup.

RE: try this on your 3D foamy F-18 ( you'll be happy)
Folks, Being fresh to certain aspects of aerodynamics and the effects of thrust vectoring, I am simply wondering what effect the altering of the thrust line in relation to the originally designed thrust line has on the flight or launch characteristics of this particular airframe. I like the idea that has been posted regarding flipping the mount up as to gain prop clearance but wonder whether there are any ill effects in doing so. Having just finished up a F18 myself, I was left contemplating what power system to utilize. I came across this thread and really like what I'm reading about the choice of the 400DF setup. I am considering the use of this same setup as described and am looking for any additional input or thoughts. Thanx,

moki 180, perry pump or cline regulator?
Folks, I am up in the air as to whether to go with a "Perry" VP30 pump system or the "Cline" regulator. I have read numerous posts on this subject and am probably left more undecided than when I started the research. I have a new Moki 180 that I am going to be installing in a capx 232. I am undecided as to what system would give me a more reliable and trouble free fuel supply. While I understand what and how the two products differ and the basics of their operation, I have picked up on pros and cons for each system, and would like any advice or arguments one way or the other. While the Cline system is almost double the price of the Perry is it worth it? do both systems give acceptable results. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanx, Skunk

RE: Chip Hyde's Cap-X - Building & Flying
Folks, I have added my post to this thread as a perspective view point of my experience with this particular bird. and as a possible word of caution to anyone that cared to read and digest this post. Maybe my intention was misunderstood. I understand that no plane will be perfect out of the box, believe me, I've had to do the "normal" work on a new ARF, but on the other hand, I am also not exaggerrating when I say that almost all of the red covering on the wing surfaces were either "lifting" right out of the package or otherwise very easy to peel off and had to be re applied, which I did. I had no such problem with any of the other trim colors other than the red. I also did not dwell on the fact that although the scratches may be considered non existent from more than a few feet away, some of the dents and gouges in the surfaces are much more than minor imperfections, which moisture lifting will not pull out. I've used this technique on past projects and am otherwise very familiar with it. While I appreciate everyone's advise, I did not post my comments without thoroughly thinking about the situation first. I do not doubt this this will be an awesome flying plane when it is finished. If anyone still thinks or believes that my expectations are to high, given these facts. please, I welcome your opinions, and I may have to re evaluate my thoughts on what my minimum expectations are for a new ARF. Thanx again for your comments and perspectives.

RE: Chip Hyde's Cap-X - Building & Flying
Folks, As I stated in an earlier thread, I have bought a new Cap X and Moki 180 that I had planned on starting as my next project. I had finished up my earlier project and had begun the Cap X build this past weekend. I am sorry to report that so far I'm not at all impressed with what I've found. While the covering scheme looks impressive and clean, I believe that it would be beneficial if it was adhered to the plane itself. When I removed the wings from the plastic I was disappointed to see that in numerous spots the covering was scratched as if the wing was slid across a hard surface leaving longitudinal scuff marks across both wings. While not overly noticeable from a few feet away, on the other hand, this is a new plane. Because of this, I started to closely scrutinize both wing surface areas and further discovered that almost none of the red trim was stuck down very well. It could all be peeled up without any effort at all, almost as if it was held on by little more than static. I would not hesitate to believe that the red trim did not go through the adhering ( heat ) process properly, if at all. I also discovered several areas which were dented and deformed. This coupled along with the latter imperfections that were found, lead me to believe that this particular pair of wings were certainly mishandled during the construction and finishing phases. I have found the rest of the plane to be in satisfactory condition. Being so anxious and excited to have a new Cap X, I decided to start construction anyway, and proceeded to epoxy in the wing joiner. As I sat there waiting for the epoxy to cure, and the initial excitement of the new Cap X beginning to wear off, I began to think more and more about the situation, and subsequently, the more it began to bother me. I now feel that none of these issues should be acceptable on a new plane. Being as I feel I have already committed myself as accepting the condition of the plane, by means of starting the construction, I became unhappy with the decision I had made. I have decided to put the plane away until such time, that I feel better about the decision I had made to accept it as is. I suppose I'll get back to the Cap X once I get over myself. Just and FYI, and my .02

RE: Chip Hyde's Cap-X - Building & Flying
Going Vert, Your setup looks great, one question though, On the forteenth picture, I see an opening right below the spinner that is approx. 3" x 2". Was this put in to ensure proper cooling? Also, have you noticed any of the covering lifting on the edges, as was stated by several people in this thread? Thanks again for the info.

RE: Chip Hyde's Cap-X - Building & Flying
Hi folks, Depending on where you read on this thread, I am left a bit confused about the cooling or lack there of, concerning the Moki 180. In several posts I think I'm reading that if the Moki is mounted sideways that a large hole has to be cut into the side of the cowl to achieve proper cooling for the Moki, while elsewhere I am reading that others have not had to perform this modification. I have both a Cap X and a brand new Moki 180, still in boxes, that are slated to be the next project to be built, and I am therefore very interested in the proper setup concerning the Cap X \ Moki combo. If it is true that an additional hole the size of the head has to be cut into the side of the cowl, I would ask if anyone has tried to mount the Moki totally inverted utilizing a Bisson 1182 inverted muffler? If you have to cut a hole, I would think that it would be much less noticeable on the bottom of the cowl. Any thoughts?

RE: Does your DA50 do this?
Folks, I have been contemplating the purchase of a 50cc class engine and had narrowed the choices down to either a DA or a BME. During my research I came across this thread, and am left wondering why a company with the stellar reputation that DA has, is yet to find a definitive solution to an apparently common problem, that has been proven to exist for some time now. This particular purchase would be my first venture into the world of gas. An experienced user of gas engines might find this problem a minor nuisance, but as a newbie to gassers, my goal is to purchase a quality, high ended (performance wise) reliable and user friendly engine. Maybe I am being naive in expecting all of those qualities out of one engine, never-less I have done several hours of research on the choices available to me, and had settled on the 2 brands mentioned. After reviewing this thread I believe that for me, as a newbie, that the BME might be the better choice. Just my .02

Salmon, Your retract installation looks very clean and strong. I have never installed retracts on anything as of yet, and have just received a Vortex as a Christmas present. I am seriously contemplating retract installation when I build it and was wondering how confident you would feel about how your particular retract setup would hold up on a grass strip. If you feel positive about it, could I bother you to post some added detail as to your exact install process...IE brand used, reinforcement you felt necessary or what you may do differently the second time around. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Skunk

RE: OMP 92" Yak 54 Prototype
I was out at the local flying field this past weekend and had the awesome experience of watching Ed Noble put a few tanks of gas thru this particular plane. Ed was putting the plane thru all of it paces, and thru my inexperienced eyes the plane performed great. The BME 50 while still being broken in, pulled the plane from a tail dragging hover to vertically out of sight. without any hesitation at all. The plane/engine combo seemed perfectly matched. climbing flatspins, snaps, rolls, blenders, waterfalls....etc. where all instantaneous and with authority. At one point, Eddie handed the box to me, while the plane was at a very high and SAFE altitude (believe me my knees were knockin) and the plane flew (floated is more like it) slower and easier than my LT40. It would glide easily around like a big albatross, but with some encouragement and direction from Eddie I had it doing some snaps and rolls without any effort at all. All I can say is that the plane was capable of radically awesome 3D flight while remaining definately gentle enough for a novice pilot like me. I can't wait.............Tally HOooooooooooooooo.........

striping tape woes
I have tried using self adhesive striping tape for various trim purposes; IE: flames, stars, accented trim lines...ETC. The problem that I'm having is that after a period of time the ends of the tape want to start lifting or curling up, requiring me to have to go back over the lines. But after a period of time, it reoccurs again. I have tried both the "Goldberg" and "Great planes" brands of tape. Thinking one may be better (adhesive wise) than the other. I have also tried thoroughly cleaning the surfaces before application of the tape with alcohol, acetone, windex, and every time, after about a week or so, the tape wants to start lifting at the ends. This is happening on planes that have not been flown yet, making fuel or wind abrasion non issues. Any suggestions or techniques to solve this issue would be appreciated. Thanx, Skunk

Ed, Didn't mean to make you feel bad. But, I went through the same frustration that you did, believe me.............the plane almost ended up in pieces at one point!!!! Hopefully our frustrating ordeals will benefit others that may want to build the same bird. But again Ed, believe me, I was there with ya man!!!!!!................Skunk

servo tunnel
Hi folks, For what it's worth, I wasn't at all comfortable, with the servo extensions in the tunnel deal, so I went ahead and spliced, silver soldered and heat shrank new longer leads onto the servos. I tested them, and in they went. So far no problems at all. On the down side, if I have to replace a servo, I would have to go through the process of making another one up again......Skunk

OMP 540 build
Ed, Sounds like you're on top of this build. The copper tubing is an interesting idea. Just to add my .02 about installing the elevator assembly. I ended up joining the elevator halves together with the wire on the building board. I then proceeded to enlarge the slot in the fuse and slid the whole assembly through the fuse first, and let it hang there free in the rear of the slot until I had installed and glued the stab assembly. the last step was hinging them together. It was a minor pain, but the elevator halves are aligned................Skunk

Ed, Not knowing what kind of landing gear you may be planning on installing on this bird, But, if it's any kind of profile gear other than the wire supplied in the kit, you may want to add some additional solid blocking in between the fuselage sticks in the area that you plan to install the gear. This of course, would have to be done before you finish installing the fuselage sheeting. Just food for thought.................Skunk
