RE: Wattage S-3B Viking on steroids
Have you put a watt meter on it? I'd be real careful. A 55mm fan with a 5100KV motor on 3S is pulling a lot of amps. That would be more suited to a 2S setup I would think.

RE: Y/A F18 single setup
There's nothing wrong with the E-Turbax, especially if your getting it dirt cheap! It would power the 18 rather well - hoever you may need to do some minor duct mods to mate it to the stock ducting.

RE: Turbine or EDF
and another guy saying the TP 6500 used parallel cells as an advantage when in fact it is just a limitation of availablility.
You know - that may or may not have been the case - but you can't argue that a 2P setup does have an advantage over a 1P setup

RE: Turbine or EDF
This is getting dumb. I think his choice of fan will dictate what battery to use. As you have said Kirk, the TF4000 is the better fan to about 4000-4500 watts - above that it losses it's edge and it seems the EVF is the fan of choice. Now - if he uses the lower fan - he doesn't need to pull 120 amps and any of the other name brand cells will be just fine. If you go EVF - you will need the TP's As for the batteries themselves - I don't think there is any great difference between them - some yes - but not a whole lot. As has been said before - the TP 6500 (from BVM) are a 2P battery. Remember when we had to run 2P years ago so the batteries would survive? That's why BV uses 2P so that the batteries will be reliable under 120 amps and not overheat or be damaged. Run a 1P TP pack (on an EVF) and see what happenes, or run a 2P pack of any other brand name cell........20 bucks says they will be just as good as the TP. I believe the only difference is a slightly lower IR on the TP's.

RE: Kyosho T-33 Modifications
Mine is totally stock. Flies with a 3 cell 3700 pack in the nose - balances fine. I just limit the throttle (amp meter installed and limit it to 35 amps - same as an 8 cell pack) The 3700 actually weighs slightly less than the 8 cell 1700 nicad I had. Gets about 6.5 min of decent flying.

RE: Yellow Aircraft F-16c build
Sorryabout the mishap gun. There is no doubt the stock inlet got you more thrust, the only reason your original was modded is due to the fact the previous owner had installed a Stumax - which needs less intake than the EVF.

Cool Viper paint job
A new Viper scheme. Very cool - kinda like a sport jet. Anyone have better detail shots of this one? Info about the paint job: AMI F-16A ADF #MM7240 from 18 gruppo is adorned with a special paintscheme to celebrate for 1000 flight hours of the commander of the squadron (Maj. Maurizio 'Masa' De Angelis) on June 8th, 2009.

RE: Looking for an affordable/flyable/reliable EDF...
How about a Byron? Pretty cheap as far as large EDF goes. Maybe $1700 for everything including batteries. Of course - It could be cheaper depending on how much you get an airframe and retracts for.

RE: SM-110-52 EDF unit? To good to be true?
Oh Man. First you need to know what your putting it in. Then you need to know what kind of preformance you want - then you need to spend $$$$![:D] FYI - the Stumax is a very good fan. You really need to go to the "other"site and make some friends![8D]

RE: Tell me I didn't screw up really bad!
Bugs and walnut shells are one thing. The fact it didn't slow down means nothing. The fact it's foam and melts means it's probably stuck and coated portions of your hot section. It should be sent in for a teardown. No-one thought a piece of foam would destroy a space shuttle either..................

RE: BYRON F-16 D/F kit value
There are many Byron edf conversions using the Byron fan. Any other fan is a waste of money as there is no real preformance gain due to the fact it has no ducting. The Byron EDF is cheap, simple and has plenty of power.

RE: A330 Air France jet missing
By the sounds of it - there was lots going wrong. I think they have more info than is being released right now. This is from Avherald: Sources within Air France reported, that the automatic message did not only report an electrical short circuit, but also the loss of cabin pressure. This information has been confirmed by FAB, who also stated, that the position of the airplane was given as N3.5777 W30.3744 in that message. New information provided by sources within Air France suggests, that the ACARS messages of system failures started to arrive at 02:10Z indicating, that the autopilot had disengaged and the fly by wire system had changed to alternate law. Between 02:11Z and 02:13Z a flurry of messages regarding ADIRU and ISIS faults arrived, at 02:13Z PRIM 1 and SEC 1 faults were indicated, at 02:14Z the last message received was an advisory regarding cabin vertical speed. That sequence of messages could not be independently verified

RE: A330 Air France jet missing
You guys should really read about positive lightning. 1 Billion volts and 300,000 amps. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightning "Positive lightning is also now believed to have been responsible for the 1963 in-flight explosion and subsequent crash of Pan Am Flight 214 Pan Am Flight 214, a Boeing 707 Boeing 707. [40] Due to the dangers of lightning, aircraft operating in U.S. airspace have been required to have lightning discharge wicks to reduce the damage by a lightning strike, but these measures may be insufficient for positive lightning. [41] Positive lightning has also been shown to trigger the occurrence of upper atmosphere lightning. It tends to occur more frequently in Winter storm winter storms, as with Thundersnow thundersnow, and at the end of a Thunderstorm thunderstorm. [14] An average bolt of positive lightning carries a current of up to 300 Ampere kA (kiloamperes) (about ten times as much current as a bolt of negative lightning), transfers a charge of up to 300 Coulomb coulombs, has a potential difference up to 1 Volt gigavolt (one billion volts), and lasts for hundreds of milliseconds, with a discharge energy of up to 300 Joule GJ (gigajoules) (a billion joules)." I don't really think this is it - but it could happen. I personally think they had a massive strike that knocked out everything except the very few backups. Then as they lost cabin px - the first thing is to decend to 10,000 feet, but in the middle of a stom, with no autopilot - they probably were disoriented and bucked around untill they lost control and either it impacted the water or they exceeded max speed and it broke up. Absolutley the last thing on their mind was to make a radio call.

RE: Combat Models F-16N Conversion
Forget it. The plane is best converted as a electric pusher. The stock inlet is way too small and the ducting is really not ducting. It is totally unsuited for EDF. You would either put so much power in and not get any return for the money (or amps!!) or you would have to completely re-design it. A yellow or BVM (which are the same size) would end up costing a little more but you would have way less headaches. A slightly smaller Tam's F-16 would set you back about the same amount. With the Tam, Yellow, or BVM you would get way better preformance. I do have the instruction book and video.

Yes - the F-86 has been done. There was one for sale here a while back with the electric conversion, though I never saw a build or flight report for it. There are 2 that have been done over at RCG. One flown and one awaiting good weather for it's first flight.
