RE: spektrum dx7 and reciver ar500 PROBLEM!
ORIGINAL: AviationNut If you don't turn off your transmitter as well, the receiver will think it had a ''brownout'' and blink to let you know. This may be confused with the binding ''blink.'' Otherwise, I'd say either your switch is shorting the signal line to ground or your receiver is bad.
I think I am getting a brown out too! Everytime I bind my ar500 with the extra bettery or the speed controller battery it binds just fine and then I go to put a new battery in and I get a soft bind or a brown out,,,usually I have to pug it in 2-3 times for it to bind... The first time it hunts when I power the receiver,,,I heard from the guys at the field that everyone has problems with the ar500 binding and staying binded and no one uses them at the Vegas field anymore,,,People even tell me make sure you don't use an ar500 on your new plane,,and things like that,,I think that horizon must know of some issues,,,,, I have 2 ar500's one binds fine and the other one is hit or miss,,,,I am going to be safe and just use the other reveivers............Just my two cents worth! RE: Aerobatics Video II
ORIGINAL: Don Szczur For example, if you set up your DX6i with one aileron control (either use a y harness or a matchbox for the ailerons) then go to the heli mode. This will give you throttle curve to adjust a linear feel on the engine. Also if you go to REVO MIX, it will enable you to mix your throttle to rudder to mix a little bit of right rudder on an up line and a little bit of left rudder on a down line. Finally, if your spin entry is a little off (if it wants to break one way or the other unexpectedly on a spin entry) you can use the ''stunt'' switch to give you a bit or rudder input at low throttle. For example, it will negate the left rudder down line mix so the plane does not break to the left on a spin entry. You hit the switch to stunt for a spin entry. However, but sure to set all the defaults where you want them for the heli mode. For example the stunt throttle curve should be set to match your NORM throttle curve, and be aware that if you hit the ''hold'' switch in the air your motor will go to idle or quit (back right switch). This is OK if you just use that switch as your ''engine kill'' switch. This demonstrates that there are more capabilties in this DX6i radio as you explore. Use the MONITOR mode to see the effects.
I just got this post after the previous post,,Dude! you are a rocket scientist! That is so dang clever..holy crap,,.Heli mode! rudder to throttle,,,rediculously clever......wish you flew in Vegas! Todd

RE: Aerobatics Video II
Don, I can see by your cut and pasting that I should have read the site and the info they have:) sorry about that but, The manual is so extremely straight forward they don't really expand on what you would do with the options, and why they have the options they have,,. I have been flying JR for over 15 years but havn't really had a need to use mixing until I just signed up for IMAC. I have always flown on high rates and did the mixing in my head cause I have been too dang lazy to just spend a day setting it up at the field. Now I suddenly am way into it and flying clean lines.. So many people at our field are torque rolling and hovering little planes all ofer the runway. I am getting sick of "house fly aerobatics" I want to learn to fly smooth Thanks for your time.. Todd

RE: up-lines
thanks guys! it was helpful,,I especially like the torque at 1/3, full throttle on the upline! on the prop though,,should I prop higher pitch for uplines? and lower for torque rolls? I thought that high pitch was for speed and low pitch was for torque rolling and uplines,,,,I ordered the video on IMAC set-ups and figure that will answer all my questions, as well,,but I couldn't wait to get some input about it... Thanks Todd

up-lines
Hey, I was wondering if anyone has anything to say about power on up-lines vs hovering or torque rolling. In other words,,which takes more power?..Nice straight uplines with a few clean snaps thrown in or torque rolling? I realize that this is a whacked out question and there are many variables that could throw it either way..Still I think it is an interesting thing to ponder. I have converted to the dark side and am now flying Electric. This has indroduced many new questions to my 15 years of flying.....Electric power feels so different than a da 100 or even a saito 180 for that matter...... you would think that power to weight is power to weight,,,no difference,,, i don't know,,maybe it is just the sound that makes it feel different,,and not seeing smoke...
ORIGINAL: BasinBum Has anyone else noticed how all the ones annoyed by ''can I have a go'' are from the UK? I have never been asked that and it seems none of my fellow countrymen have been reporting that one. I guess those Brits are just cheekier than us.
Classic! Rednecks know better! except the annoying new kids at our field,,their dad hasn't taught them not to ask everyone on the line to fly their planes,,,they even asked a guy flying a 50cc yak,,and he let them,,,,that is like feeding a stray dog,,and now I look like a dick for not letting them fly mine...

Mike McConville Rules!
Hey Mike! So glad you are on here bro,. I have been flying your designs for years and still read your book. It is amazing that things have come so far in RC and yet your book is still very pertinant to the new hobby as well. Aerobatics havn't changed a bit and setting up planes is the same except with Lipo! I just got the mini pulse XT to keep in the car for road trips. Great design,,,actually looks bigger in the sky than on the ground...flies on rails,,,,I just got an AJ SLICK as well, First plane I have purchased that was not your design,,,,,in 12 years...couldn't resist it,,That kid did a great job,,must have read your book! :) My question is...Have you gone to the dark side and started flying electric? I did,,,I no longer have to cary anything to the field except radios and batteries...no gas,,no cleaning supplies,,no pumps and car batteries to power them, no tools,no glow plug igniters,,love the new era! I remember feeling sorry for the trouble the electric guys had,,,and lack of fun at the field.. Todd

RE: Aerobatics Video II
I just purchased this viedeo and can't wait,,,I do have a question about IMAC setups though,,Will the dx6i handle the mixing that the dx7 will? Can I use some of the mixing that you go through in the video with the dx6i? I do have both the dx7 and the dx6, but i prefer to use the dx6 for some reason and hope it can do it,,,If not I can use my dx7 but hope i don't have to... Todd

RE: 4#3b upgrade all the way
I would like to post the final conclusion of this project but the converter I ordered 2 weeks ago still has not arrived and don't think it will. so since my three stock motors have burned out I have been down for two weeks.. Does anyone know if there are any other converters out there. I know TheSteve was gracious enough to make this for all of us 4#3b owners and is not really making much money off it, but since I am not able to get one, I was wondering if anyone knows if anyone else makes them and sells them? I really want to fly again.... Todd

upgrade SE to SE V2
Ok, I did a search on t-rex 450 SE and read about every topic before I posted this question. I am pending a trade on an SE and wonder if I can upgrade it to a V2? IF so does anyone know what the difference is? Is it a big deal. I read there may be some gear ratio difference. Is it the same frame? Thanks Todd

RE: american made helicopter
apartheid is where they separate people by race or social class or financial class. People take advantage of the lower class by having them work for pennies so the rich can get cheaper helicopter parts! Walmart is the king of apartheid. buying goods made by poor underpaid over worked people who have no better options like in Honduras or china or other third world countries........ I lived over seas for 10 years seen a lot of greed and poverty....Mostly was just a smart remark I made...I think it sucks that we can get parts cheaper over seas than to make them here in America where we don't even have to ship them very far...... RE: 4#3b upgrade all the way
I received the MIA g10 rigid frame and got it finished today. It is an awesome kit. Better than I had hoped. Don't forget to switch the leads on the tail motor when you hook up the direct drive. I forgot and created a Frisbee like helicopter then remembered since i am not using the gear drive, the motor will be running backwards.... I also recommend cutting 1mm off the trailing edge of the rotor blades. It helps the rotor speed since the gear drive is not there. Mario said that is what they do. The CG can be adjusted with the battery, It seems a bit tail heavy without the battery , but if you push the battery forward it balances out perfect. I am using stock electronics and motors at the moment while waiting for my converter. So the Mia g10 rigid upgrade works great with all stock parts even the direct drive. The heli is heavier now because I used the mia tuff landing gear option as well. The flights are not quite as long but they are more stable and I can take my hands off the controls to adjust trim now with out the heli shooting across the room. I am hoping that the brushless will bring me back closer to the 7 minute mark. I am getting 5-6 minutes with the stock motor right now. I think that is worth the upgrade Even 5 minutes is pretty long time. I have all the parts here to set-up the brushless main except the "TheSteve" converter. I ordered the dual converter and am only going to use one channel of it to get the main going then after that I will try the tail upgrade using the other channel. TheSteve said it will work. IF it does not I will continue on with the DX7 route. The stock tail rotor seems not to burn out like the main does but it does seem a bit on the weak side. Worried about the brushless having a little too much torque for a crisp tail. Probably going to have to upgrade the tail with Jonathon's $39.00 tail combo kit. Really hope it works with the dual converter. Will post a pic and video this weekend of the progress so far. Todd

I believe that you can use the 4#3 blades on the 4#3b. They are different though. I herd that the 4#3b blades produce more lift.

RE: american made helicopter
Thanks for the info. I think it is called apartheid. but we call it different these days. I lived in ASIA for 10 years and have seen both ends of that whole economic madness. But I guess we all want cheap parts for our crashes,,,,,,, I just kind of want to patronize American companies, but it seems hard in this particular hobby. Also figure parts will be more available..but that might not be true either. Todd

RE: Are people really this stupid?
I don't get it. What did the people do that was so stupid? (I realize the irony of me asking what is so stupid)(I am stupid now) but reading the main post I don't see what the people did that put everyone in danger. They flew a kite too close to the helicopter flying? If this is the case wouldn't it be the helicopter pilots fault for flying in a public park not designated for special interest activities? AMA in America says you can only fly in designated helicopter area and the planes have similar rules as well. Anytime you fire up a set of blades at 1-3 thousand rpms you are in danger no matter what. This is a dangerous hobby. I know I almost killed myself when I learned how to fly helicopters.......full throttle and full reverse cyclic..... should have been the opposite,, I meant to chop throttle and full forward cyclic...Lucky I ducked and the heli flew over my head and then took out the fence behind me...a strong wooden picket fence.....lucky I still have a head. My friend and I still reminisce about how I was holding the radio and ducking....you know you are in serious trouble when the guy holding the radio hits the dirt and the heli is still flying......... RE: 4#3 a good beginner?
I would go with a 4#3b and a simulator. the 4#3b flies very stable and is great to learn on because it is so durable. you can crash and fly it again...cheap parts and if you can fly this one you can fly any heli later on down the road. The heli above is cool and it will be easy to fly but it is not like flying a 4 or 6 channel heli. This will give you the full experience.

RE: Dragonfly Not lifting off ground, is it defective???
there is a remote possibility that the heli's CG is tail heavy if the helicopter flies backwards. But if you have not flown it and you are just noticing that the controls are backwards by site of the swashplate and you have switched the dips on the radio it seems there may be a hardware problem in the radio or receiver. there is a possibility that the servo arm is binding and that is preventing it from moving the swashplate in the correct direction. I can't think of anything else that could be causing this situation. You may need to exchange or use the warranty. Todd

RE: Dragonfly Not lifting off ground, is it defective???
the flybar paddles should be anywhere from 5-18 degrees positive. The more up angle the better for learning they say. I keep mine more near 5 degrees up pitch. when you get into inverted flight you keep them at 0 degrees.

RE: Dragonfly Not lifting off ground, is it defective???
is it a 4#3 or is there a #4? anyhow either way there should be dip switches on the back of the radio that will let you change the polarity of each channel. Your cyclic is in reverse setting. Most cheap mass produced heli's need a little fine tuning and adjustments. there will be a dip switch for forward and reverse. left and right, rudder and throttle. You may also want to go through and put a little WD40 on the bearing and ball joints. your motor might not be a good one. I figure 9 out of 10 are satisfactory but there is always that one motor that just sucked. You may need a replacement motor. No big deal. if you are not brushless you will probably need and extra tail and main motor anyhow. common for them to have a short life span. Also check your flybar paddles to make sure they are at the right pitch. and facing the right direction. Make sure there is no hair in the gears and motor shafts. I have 2 dogs and have to clean mine every time I get near the carpet. And I mean every time. The tail catches the most hair. Todd

I want to have tail and main brushless. I also want to order some of your bodies. how are you making those bodies? do you have a plastic mold injector? Todd
