RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
Looks like this forum is no longer active. I put in a ticket on it and got a reply that they were working on it, but nothing since. Bruce

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
Been using the diode setup for a few years now. All the A123 batteries that i have have a jr type of lead for the charge balance plug. I use that for the ignition lead. Main lead goes to rec'r. Have had good results so far. Bruce

RE: New 60-90 Extra 260
Building the same plane with same dle20 and jtec. I put a hardwood block across the inside bottom front, then took off the bottom edge so the muffler did not touch. Bruce

Re-enter the url into browser. Replace the spaces with Underscrores, it then works fine Bruce

How are you putting the skin on the wings? Using CA or some other glue? I am at that point, and wondering how to hold it all in place. Bruce

RE: New Funtana 125
Looking at getting the Funtana 125 - will use DLE 20. Can anyone comment as to how this plane is in wind vs the Funtana 90 which I have? I find the 90 does not like wind. Likes to baloon on landing. I do not fly 3D but like the way this plane flys. Bruce

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
I would not back off the top end a full 1/4 turn from Max RPM...back it off only enough to drop the RPM about 200 RPM. These carbs do not need very much adjustment to change the fuel mixture quite a bit. 7200 RPM seems quite low.. Should be up around 8000. 1/4 turn may carbon up the plug pretty quickly. Bruce

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
Thanks for the info. I was planning on using the 1N4007 diode.. Think the voltage drop is the same. I am planning on using a Jtec pitts muffler (if it ever comes... you know customs). Want to quiet it down a little. Bruce

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
Those of you that are running A123 batteries and using a diode to run the ignition... are you running with just 1 diode or 2. Have saw info that indicated both cases. I am setting up a Seagull Extra 260 with a DLE 20 and am planning on using just 1 2300 A123 to power both RX and Ign. The battery has 2 leads and will be using 2 switches , rcxel ignition cutoff etc. Thanks Bruce
ORIGINAL: sandyjain Great build thread/blog. I am flying the '20 in a seagull extra 260 and having a great time. I could prop hang for about 30sec today !! otherwise also it has great flying characteristics... welcome to theworld of the '20...
Have the same setup DLE 20 and Seagull Extra 260 - will be flying sport and imac only. Where did you set the CG - Center of wing tube?, also what prop? Waiting for Jtec pitts muffler before I can finish and balance. Thanks Bruce

RE: Funtana 90!
What I typically do with this type of tail wheel where there is a spring attached to the rudder by a 90 bend going up into the rudder is to just put a double layer of iron on covering material over the part of the wire that goes into teh rudder. This makes it easy to repair, replace if required. No glue required. Bruce

RE: Seagull Extra 260 .90 ARF
Where did you end up with the CG? The instructions indicate approx the spar, someone else indicated center of wing tube. I am just getting ready to balance mine - have a DLE 20 with Jtec muffler in it. Bruce

Just starting to install a DLE 20 into a Seagull Extra 260. Will be mounting it inverted. Did you put in any right thrust? Appears that the motor box does not have any? Thanks Bruce

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser!
ORIGINAL: bcchi
ORIGINAL: SpinnerRow How many 1N4007 diodes should I put in series to drop the voltage enough for the DLE 20 ignition. Each one should drop the voltage about .6 volts. I'm using a 42% A123 2600mah battery from Valley View and plan to power the plane and the ignition with this one battery. Since this is my first A123 battery powered plane, I'm not sure what these things come out to at full charge. i guess I should just charge one and see but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I was thinking that I would need two at least and maybe three for a 1.2v or 1.8v drop in battery voltage to the ignition.
Two Diodes is fine for A-123 or LIFE. BCCHI
Would you have a diagram as to how this works? Thanks Bruce

That looks like a gas engine in that plane. What engine are you using? Had one at one time with an OS91 - good power. Bruce

RE: 9303 Fuse and rolling knob
One thing that I have been doing for quite some time is turn on the TX prior to plugging in the charger, then turn off the TX. Also turn on the TX before unplugging the charger. This disconnects the charge port, so if there is a momentary short when the charger is plugged in, the TX does not see it. I have never blown the fuse using this process. Bruce

RE: Goldberg Extra 300
I got mine from TNT and they fit the bottom of the plane exactly. When I built the plane, I modified the gear mount to be more foreward and a lot stronger that the kit gear. Did not have any issues with nose over. Bruce

Seems like you must have quite a bit of vibration - does the engine generate that much? Have DLE55 and it seems to not have very much. Spent some time in getting the prop balanced. Bruce

RE: Flashing lights on 921 receiver
Sounds like you are powering down the RX but leaving the TX on. The flashing lights on the RX after a short duration power off of the RX indicates quick connect. Bruce

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build
Has anyone used a gas engine on this plane? Was thinking of using eh RCGF 26 - weighs just a little more than the OS120 4 stroke that is shown on the plans. It has rear carb. The muffler will create quite a bit hole on one side. Bruce

RE: Top Flite 1/7 P-51 Build
Nice looking plane. I have seen posts that indicate that the position of the CG on the plans may not be where it should be. Where did you locate yours? Must be correct, as your plane looks as good as new after 17 years of flying. Also did you do any extra work on the landing gear? Bruce

RE: Goldberg Extra 300
When I was the owner of the GB 300 Extra, I ordered a tank from Hobby-Lobby. Model GR236. This was a 14 oz short fueld tank that seemed like it was designed for the GB. I flew with a OS 91 and it gave me 10 minute flights with lots of fuel to spare. I think when I got the tank, it actually came from Germany. Bruce

RE: DX7 Crash
Sorry to hear of your loss. A good habit to get into, is that anytime you have the motor running on an airplane, have the plane either tethered, or in a starting station, so that it cannot go anywhere no matter what position the throttle is in. I have seen numerous cases where the plane was sitting on the ground and the pilot was reaching for something and bumped the throttle stick and away went the plane. Luckily no-one was injured. Does not matter whether 72 or 2.4. Bruce

I take it that there is no firmware upgrade that Horizon (JR) can do to correct this. I have the same issue and it is only with the analogue servos. Digitals work fine Bruce
