RE: Best Kit for First Build
If you can find one, the Sig Kavalier! Lot's of detailed instructions, covers all the building techniques including a tapered wing with leading and trailing sheathing, a "box" fuselage and plenty hand shaping of balsa stock (wing tips, leading edges and cowl fitting). Main wing alignment has a unique built in (part of the wing ribs) alignment tool and needs to be constructed over a building board. Purchase a few extra 3/32 sheets of balsa as the finished fuse looks better planked lengthwise. True "builders kit" but not overwhelming and I've yet to master it's flying capabilities. Use the "Carpenters Rule" (measure twice, fit dry and then glue) and take your time installing and aligning the wing mount dowels (just a tad' tricky). Looks like Sig's used two different cowlings in thse kit's. The flimsy "white plastic" and the heavier (yellowed) stuff that almost looks like molded fiberglass (it's plastic also). Take your time cutting to fit your engine (kind of unique 45 degree install) and anchor those cowl blocks. Easily rigged and large compartment for elecronics. May want to purchase a servo tray as none provided (can be built). Metal landing gear is tough as nails so "re-inforce" install. Did I tell you I like this kit? Honest this is a good, streightforward & logical build. Just take your time! Hope this helps!

RE: Unresolved complaint
Well, it's been over two months since I sent the M.O. to ********* ($160.00 on Aug. 8th). That was for Item no. ******* and no engine (Saito 91S) ever came. No answers to any emails and, as I mentioned before, he did pick up my phone calls "once" to tell me he'll have to check with his roomate to see what the problem is. Now he's obviously screening his phone calls as my calls go unanswered. Still not sure what what your criteria is for placing a member on the "Scammers List" but I'd say this one qualifies. I won't even consider buying an item on RCU unless the seller has a stellar (and large) set of ratings. My estimate is .. he is a scammer. With this info (and I can provide a U.S. Postal Money Order serial number made out to him and all email traffic between us) can you (RCU) attempt contact with him and make the decission to keep or block him from placing any future ads?

RE: Build thread for a Carl Goldberg Eagle II Trainer??
O.K. here's one more suggestion. Cut the windshield carefully. sand the edges and place in position. Keep one thumb over one bottom corner and drill a small hole in the other and into the fuselage. One small button head screw into the hole and tighten. Now press the windshield back into place and do the same on the other bottom / side corner. Check everything is equal and do the same at the middle / lower portion of the windshield. This one may end up on the hatch but it's easily removed if you need to get in there. You can follow up with a couple more button heads spaced between the three you just put in. Side windows? No problem if you cut them into 4 peices and not the two piece sets as they come. Trim all the plastic you can but leave a thin flange for the epoxy. One window, one fitting. 6 minute epoxy will do the trick if fitted correctly.

RE: Unresolved complaint
JWN, Just for info... I've tried two more emails and 2 additional phone calls. No reply / answers to either. How do you keep someone like this from re-registgering (on RCU) under a different name?

RE: Unresolved complaint
I didn't realize (should have) that this corrospondance can be read by other members and can understand why using a members name is not permitted. I did file a formal complaint against the seller over a week ago. No reply from the seller. Filed a second complaint and rated the member "poor". Again, I find RCU to be an excellent venue for selling off / trading equipment and buying equipment. Have used it to see others experience with particular equipment and their recommendations. I've even used it to revue new products and recently purchased a super plane through my local dealer (he goes through Horizon Hobby for some purchases). I can however, see where it can be abused and your clear on the hazzards of buying from unrated / scam sellers. I'm just a little frustrated that I "got took".

RE: Unresolved complaint
Yes, I have a copy and I did find his phone number. I called him this past Saturday (3 Sept.). I identified myself and asked if their was a problem with the transaction. He replied "you didn't get the engine?" I said no, that I hadn't and that he had promised on two emails to send a package tracking number (he didn't) and that he had not responded to the last 5 emails I sent him. He then said that he would have to talk to his room-mate and ask him why he hasn't sent the engine. I asked him to either send me the engine or return my money. He assured me he would "get back to me". No phone calls Sunday, Monday or Today. I tried to call him twice today but it appears he will not answer or will not take my calls. I understand that RCU only provides a service and is not responsible for transactions. I have had many excellent experiences buying, selling and talking to other persons interested in the hobby but feel like **** *********(*********) is not trustworthy as a seller. Yes, he only had one "good" feedback but after checking his profile (president of RC Club, Contributing Editor, several years of RCU membership, etc.) he appeared to be an honest person. Even his add was well constructed, worded, etc. with many details of the sale. I can see others falling for the same scheme. I'm considering printing all corrospondence with ****, a copy of the Postal Money Order, etc. , packaging it up and sending it to the Bono AR Sheriffs Dept. but I doubt that will help either. RCU can follow the transaction, I can supply all email communications and my Postal Money Order number or you can attempt to contact him yourself. I'd at least like to see him suspended from any future sales for my $160.00 and for the protection of honest RCU members. Thank you for your reply Adrian

Unresolved complaint
I submitted an "unresolved complaint" against a member about a week or so ago (Item # 768671). I see it's posted on his ad although the ad is marked "sold to you" and can't be seen by anyone else unless he posts another item for sale. Although he only had one other item sold, the deal was marked "good" and when I checked his profile, he'd been a member of RCU for a number of years including a reference that he was a contributing editor. Anyway, cut and dry... he acknowledged recipt of payment (a money order as requested) and no engine almost 30 days later. One communication a few weeks ago stating he apologized and would be sending a tracking number immediately but again, no engine weeks later. No communications either. I email but nothing back. Can I ask RCU for his phone number or is it against your privacy policy. Also, at what point does he get suspended? I'm pretty certain, I'm out the $$$ but I'd hate to think it's that easy to stay in the RCU clasifieds after pulling off something like this.

RE: Enya 4-C's
Agreed! Positively! but.... commodities can be manipulated. It was done in the 70's to silver. DeBeers does it to diamonds and OPEC does it to oil. The way I look at it, the last time gold coins we're in circulation (around 1920) a good weeks pay was a double eagle ($20.00). In 2011 a good weeks pay would be around $1,600 - $1,800. Kind of simplistic (and I know gold was undervalued up to this "run-up") but I'm hearing $2,500 to $5,000 an ounce as a possibility. Besides, it doesn't fly worth a &^%$ and I'm too old to invest anymore.

RE: Enya 4-C's
Ouch! I got carried away and bid (ebay) on that beautiful O.S. FS-60 "Open Rocker" that was N.I.B. Got me up close to 3 bills and went way over that. Somebody should tell Gordon Liddy that he may be banking on the wrong thing (gold).... could "open rockers" be the next investment skyrocket? P.S. Just in case anybody out there is investing or considering "gold".... careful! The more they sell, the bigger the demand, the more it costs... If it's such a good investment, why are they selling it? .....and..... where's it comming from and who's getting the money?

Tom..... I'll give you two free guesses on who hit the "Buy it Now" option. Hope it's as nice as it looks in the picutres. This is what happens when your retired, living in Florida and have nothing better to do with your life other than check for the latest Enya listing on Ebay...... Hey, it's too darn hot to take the bike for a ride anyway. All... seems like I'm not the only one interested in Enya's.... anybody know enough to set up a collectors web site?

RE: Enya 4-C's
Ah! ... you have the VT240! I'm going to spring for one of these (eventually). Maybe we can set up a "EA"... kinda' like "AA" . It's built into our nature. "If one thing is good, lot's of them must be better". With me, it's left over from when I was a kid. Never could get enough scratch together to go R/C and almost always had a UC Ringmaster all patched up with the lowest compression Mc Coy ever to turn a prop. I use to be heavy into one he** of a gun collection but have sold most of them off over the years. Still keep some target stuff. Ever notice, there's quite a few flyers that are into gun collecting. On the other hand, my father-in-law gave me the best advise more than 40 years ago. "You want to collect something.... collect money". Let's get some pictures up!

RE: Enya 4-C's
Well, I got a reply (local) to my RCU want ad and I now have a 46 4-C II, loosely N.I.B. Been stored awhile. Let's see... now I have a 46, 53, 60, 80 & a 120 all new with boxes and assorted goodies inc. a flex muffler for the 120. I see lot's of 90's for sale but all used. I've got a new Sig Kavalier near done (O.S. 40 FP) for power and I just joined a new club so maybe the flying (and destruction) will begin. Had to pick up my first ARF. I'm almost ashamed to fly something I haven't built but ... oh well. Actually, I saw the Hangar 9 "DeNight" and just had to have one. Thinking of a winter project to put a 53 4C to work. First thoughts are a Pete'n Poke or maybe a Top Flite Elder... any thoughts or experience on these or other kit's?

RE: O.S. 1984 FS-120 Before Surpass ( Looks like a Saito)
"Phoenix" phone no. 800-8452813. They can do teflon and about a dozen other materials and don't charge for tooling (set up either) for round washers. I think the stock thickness starts about .005 in. on most avail. materials. Only issue is I'm not sure what they have for a min. quantity. Hope this helps. Skyshot

RE: Enya 4-C's
Great! Just found out there's a 35-4c open rocker and Fizzwater2 is talking about a 41 (or is that the 40?). Maybe I picked the wrong line to collect. Does "Enya" translate to "Endless" in English? Gonna' need a bigger bottle of after-run oil!

RE: Enya 4-C's
Mike... I know everybody seems to use them. Took me a long time to finally try one out (it was a 53-4c) and it's great! Relatively inexpensive on the secondary market (RCU / Ebay). Always used Super Tigre's but between moving ops to China and the 4 stroke "take over" at my last club I've retired all but one. Not sure just why, but I'm making an attempt at having all the 4-C's. One trouble with that collection is I keep finding one that I had no idea existed. Even found an "open rocker" model like the early Saito's and O.S.'s.. I figured I'd ask around (if any collectors) or Enya experts out there to fill me in on my new quest.

RE: Enya 4-C's
Thanks, I've got a couple of them and find thier simple, rugged and the "gear is in the rear" design is forgiving for that occasional unexpected landing. I've currently got 4 no flyers (new in the box) and a lead on a fifth. One 53, 60, 90 and a 120. The chase is for a n.i.b. 46. If I continue, the 240 VT is going to hurt ($). Have been flying on and off for 50+ years and just never got interested in Enya. Now I wish I did.

Anybody collecting Enya 4 strokes (4-C's). Not much info. on collectability, rarity of certain displacement, etc. on the web. I see the retailers have pretty much dried up and especially in the U.S.

vupilot, It's been three weeks since I placed an order and not a word / nothing received. I did get a call back from the phone number on the web-site and it's some poor guy that never heard of Morris. I guess he called back when he saw my number. I'm not sure where to go from here. skyshot

Anybody know if Morris Hobbies is still in business? I placed an order on their web-site and have not received. No charge to credit card. The answer on their order line is some poor guy with a "full" mailbox. Never mentions "Morris" on the message.

RE: Sterling Models
Wow! Sterling Super Ringmaster. It must have taken me two months of saving change and a 6 mile bike ride to move up to that kit. Couldn't even look at my old profile version after the final coats of dope dried on the "real" looking job. Amboid glue, Silkspan and my mother screamming bloody murder about the smell of dope in the house. Just wish it came with more than one "windshield" as I just couldn't help a couple glue spots after 60 attempts to get it in place. Thanks for reminding me. Will check Ebay for the next one auctioned. 48 years have gone by but I'm ready for "Super no. II".
