RE: top flite taurus canopy
I built a Taurus from scratch last year. The canopy I matched to the plans I obtained from SIG Manufacturing. They have several size canopies available. Meadure what you need from the plans, get the canopy from SIG and cut off the trim and you are ready to go. Taurus Flyer is a great resoource for technical info while building. I built mine to resemble the original Kazmirski Taurus and used an OS 50SX for power. Good luck, and let us know how you end up. Gerry

You make a valid point. However, I have not had a problem. I am able to get a CA bottle adapter from my local hobby shop. I place it on the yip of the bottle and it will meter out a drop at a time. Two drops one on each side has worked for me. Sledge_78

RE: Do you remember being a beginner???
For me the beginning was comet & berkeley stck kits. I tried 1/2A controline but never could get it in the air. Then one day i saw some kids flying controline and the airplanes were much bigger. My Uncle had given me an old Mc Coy .29 Sportsman (rings & all). I bought the infamous Ringmaster built it and I was ready. My pal and I went down to the School yard. We were ready to give it a try. I know the engine worked becuse I had tested it but I really didn't think it would start. Three flips and it was running. I ran to the control handle picked it up and signaled my pal to release. Well, being on grass, and a novice, I did not know the lines would snag on the grass. The snag caused the rRingmaster to turn around on the ground and it did a complete 360 degree circle. My pal was trying to run away, fell down only to see the Ringmaster straighten out and head into the air. I can still hear his word "It's up". I had no idea what i ws doing. It held steady for about ten laps and then over my head and into the ground. Yes, it broke but was fixable. I was hooked! Next time the flights actually lasted until the engine stopped. Of course that was a new experience for me. How do I land this thing? Around, it climbed into the wind, over my head and into the ground. But it was fixable and I kept trying until I finnally got it. I was only around 15 years old and been building and flying since except for College, cars, wife, kids, work. But I returned into R/C ten years ago. I think all that building helped, becasue I can fix the broken airplanes, and ARFs where many today don't know how and just buy another fuselage or wing.. Gerry

RE: OS 46 fx bearings
Rye, Yes, you will need to heat up the crankcase again to install the bearings. I also place the new bearings in a plastic bag and place them in the freezer overnight. Be prepared to place the rear bearing into the the crancase evenly, otherwise it can become difficult to seat properly. Actually, both berings can be difficult to instal if not started evenly. I use a large socket from my tool box to place around the outside edge of the bearing to evenly tap it into place. Make sure you have a wooden work surface to place the block on while you tap on the bearing. Some slide into place easily others may take a little effort.Wear gloves to protect your hands = the block is hot. After you have the bearings installed place the crankshaft into position and spin it. If the bearings are all seated properly the crankshaft will rotate and spin freely as if riding on air. Any slow turning or difficulty inserting the crankshaft means the bearings are not seated perfectly. Good luck and let us know how you make out. Gerry

RE: Greyhound shipped plane, LOST! , HELP!
Tenacious, Sorry to hear of the Greyhound shipping experience. There has to be a simple explanation for the non delivery. As beautiful as the airplane may be, few could steal it and use it the way it was intended. So, I would rule out theft based upon the odds. This means Greyhound still has it somewhere. The box is large it doesn't get lost easily, and no one could mistake it as theirs. I know this sounds rediculous, but I feel it will turn up at Greyhound somewhere. I went through this also with them but not quite as long as you have experienced. It did arrive from Maryland to Phoenix a couple of weeks late. Greyhound sees big packages every day. They knew that my box contained either an auto part of a model airplane from the box dimensions. I think they have it somewhere and its been there so long that no one wants to do anything with it. I am an optimist, it will turn up. Sledge _78

RE: Very disappointed with Hobby King
I recently purchased a set of retracts from Hobby king and still have not received them. I asked them and asked them but all the respond is with tracking information which has not changed since the middle of last month. Finally I raised a complaint with PayPal this will take longer to resolve. I again asked Hobby king for help and they said I would have to cancel my claim with PayPAl beore they would help. What kind of an outfit is this. I hope they realize that word gets around quickly and they will be left holding their inventory with no buyers. They don't seem to care about you all they want is your money and after that forget it. I won't buy from them again. I hope PayPAl helps with this oterwise I am out $175.00. GFG

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
I can't agree more with the desire to build kits. The workmanship and knowledge learned during the process is terrific. I must admit the loss of kit makers provides less oportunity for many to experience kit building. Arfs have gotten better, and when you compare the costs for building a kit vs an ARF the ARF wins out. Never the less as many have said here, after you learn to build you know the airplane so well that when a mishap occurs you know how to repair it. I had been building models since I was 8 or 9 years old.. I still enjoy it to this day and with less kitmakers around and the selection limited, I turn to the short kit manufacturers or scratch build from plans. You can usually find the airplane you want from a short kit manufacturer or the plans. I just finished a scratch built Ed Kazmirski Taurus built from the original 1963 plans . It's a great flying airplane done up in the original colors and design. The even better effect is that no one else has one anywhere nearby. So you won't see five or six at the flying site as you would Hanger9 P47's etc.. So even though the kit manufactures are dissappearing, there are alternatives. Gerry

Ducted fan for Ziroli F9F Panther
I am building a Ziroli F9F Panther and would like to know what is the right set up for electric ducted fan. The airplane has 72in WS and 72in fuselage. It was originally designed or a OS MAX .91 & Dynamax fan unit. I am trying to decide whether to use a turbine or go electric. I know this airplane has been done both ways successfully. I am new to electric and DF so any advice on which motor, fan, batteries, and ESC would be appreciated. I have built it as far as I can before deciding on the propulsion system. Turbines are nice, expensive. and require TLC. Please let me know your thoughts. Gerry

RE: Fuel proofing help!
Bibby, This problem is not new. Many paints are not fuel proof as you know. The Lustercote clear suggestion works on the acrylic but not on the enamel. So, here's a suggestion: Buy some clear acrylic to spray over the enamel. After that you should be able to spray the clear Lustercote. Also, if the enamels are dark colors you can use a clear polyurethane, which is fuel proof. In fact you could probably use clear polyurethane over both paints. Be aware that a slight darkening of light colors will occur. The only caution is that any clear coat will wear in places handled and rubbed which will then expose the paint underneath to fuel damage. Good luck. Gerry

RE: FRiday/Saturday jet action @ SVF(Phoenix,Az.)
Vincent, Thank you, I read through that whole thread and found it very interesting. I am amazed at how much I don't know when it comes to jet turbine models. After considering the airframe and controls I felt I could get by with that technical knowledge. The turbine and whatever added accessories needed are a whole new world right now. I've been a modeler most all my life, which now seems like a long time. It appears very exciting to venture into turbines. I plan to step softly into this so I don't make mistakes, and learn from those that have the experience. I know I can build the aircraft, and it will look good. From there on it will be an adventure for me. I recently completed a vintage "Ed Kazmirski" Taurus built from original plans (scratch). It's in the RCUniverse photo gallery My objective was to copy the original aircraft, and finish design as Ed Kazmirski's original 1963 model. The Ziroli F9F will be next on the building board and I look forward to this, as it's one of my all time favorites. I have also heard this particular Ziroli F9F is a fine flyer as well. Gerry
