RE: TMMY Scale Composites 35% scale Cessna
I have built Cessnas in the past and yes you are correct. On the inside the fuse use 1/8 ply and epoxy it in place over the area where the strut is to be placed. Drill out the hole in the ply just enough so that the blind nut will fit inside tlhe hole. Next insert the blind nut until it is flush in the wood. Then take some thin CA and wick it around the edges of the blind nut. This will help hold the blind nut in place. VERY IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING A REGULAR WASHER AND A LOCK WASHER!!! The reguar washer will sit up against the outside of the fuse and the lock washer sits on top of the regular washer. This method works extremely well and you never have to worry about any of the strut screws coming loose. Saul

It's hard to believe but this thread is officially 4 years old. When I started it I thought it would die out pretty quickly due to the size and cost of the plane. It's awesome to see that so many people have bought this plane and the tremendous creativity each person exhibits. Saul

RE: TMMY Scale Composites 35% scale Cessna
ORIGINAL: spidernad A guy contacted me on YouTube about raido setups for the TMMY Cessna so I posted on here for everyone. His quote is below.
Hi, I 'm thinking about getting the same plane and was wondering if you could tell me what radio system you will be using. I have a Futaba 7C 2.4, but im worried that i will not have enough free channels. I guess that i could use a smart fly system if i needed. Any input you can provide in set-up would be helpfull. Thanks, Mike
I'm using a Futaba 10CAG radio. I bought it for use on my 50% Edge and for that it was fine since I had a SmartFly Power Expander EQ10 to handle the 16 servos on that plane. I thought it was a pretty high end radio but it lacks a couple of things that I now need for the TMMY Cessna. One of the things I was disapointed it doesn't have is a servo speed feature, something I didn't need in the Edge. On this plane, I wanted to make the flaps move slowly up and down for realism. So I wound up getting two servo slowing devices. I first tried the Turnigy brand but I don't think they are meant for digital servos. (see video <a target=''_blank'' href=''http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0gytsKZQwY''>here) I then bought some <a target=''_blank'' href=''http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?I=LXPNV2&P=8''>EMS brand and they seem better, although not perfect, but they will do. I don't think these devices were really designed with digital servos in mind. There are a couple more brands out there but I'm not going to keep throwing money at it when they might all have the same issue with digital servos (chatter or noise) I would like to have a Full Feature radio but can't afford a thousand dollars or more. I was able to get the flaps set up to move with switches. Full up flaps, 10,20 and 30 Degrees (full down.) My radio setup is as follows. Channels:  1 - Left Aileron  2 - Elevator  3 - Throttle  4 - Rudder  5 - Right Flap  6 - Left Flap  7 - Right Aileron  8 - Choke  9 - Engine Kill 10 - Lights (these can be on a manual switch instead) The ailerons and flaps could technically use one channel each, but if you want to adjust the servos individualy (sub trim, endpoints) then you can use a Power Expander. So a seven channel Radio with a Power Expander could go something like this. Channels:  1 - Ailerons  2 - Elevator  3 - Throttle  4 - Rudder  5 - Flaps  6 - Choke  7 - Engine Kill
Try the JR 11x. It has adjustable servo speed and is far less than other radios with comparable features. http://jrradios.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=JRP1100&utm_source=rcu&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=rcu_fts&utm_content=11X Saul

RE: Hostetler Cessna 150/152
For those that have not started the fuse let me highly recommend using a magnetic building board. I have this kit and it makes building the fuse a hell of a lot easier. You can frame up the entire fuse without even adding a drop of glue. This allows you to make precise changes. http://www.airfieldmodels.com/information_source/how_to_articles_for_model_builders/tools/magnetic_building_board/index.htm http://www.airfieldmodels.com/information_source/how_to_articles_for_model_builders/tools/magnetic_building_board/order_magnetic_fixtures.htm Saul

RE: commercial hobby shop display stands
ORIGINAL: davidgeorge212 Does anyone happen to know where or how you can go about buying display stands for hobby items like in a hobby shop. I am talking about those type of stands that hold rolls of covering and balsa wood and other misc items like that. I got a lot of rc related products that I would like to store in a little better way. I already bought 1 spinner rack from a hobby shop that went out of business several years ago which has worked out great. David
I know this thread is over a year old but I have an answer to your question: Go to your local hobby shop and tell them you are interested in a display rack from Top Flite for their Monokote. It will cost you $187.50 & will hold 72 rolls of Monokote. The item number is TOPTOPZ0200. Tell you local hobby shop to order it from Great Planes. Also ask them about other displays that are available to retailers. There are displays for everything from wood to metal to paints to foam. Saul

RE: HELP WITH ST. CROIX/CRESSLINE LONG EZ KIT
Go electric otherwise you'll have to deal with the in-flight weight shift that occurs as the fuel tank has less and less fuel in it. Plus electric gives you the ability to better balance the plane. Mine had a nitro engine in it and boy was it tail heavy! Saul
