RE: Train of thought
I have 3 cats right now and having a single engine mounted in the tunnel is a non issue. The Sprint cat is fast and will run wide open thru the corners with no real loss of speed. Same for the stryker F41 I have. I also built a wood Maxcat and it is a great cat, I have been dialing it in this summer and have it running at 56MPH consistantly... I also own a 56" Apache that hasn't been in the water in 4 years, as the cats are way faster, more stable..... JMHO

RE: need help
Save your money and buy a good quality hull engine radio and hardware. It will be well worth it when you get it all together and drop it in the water.... There is also the option to buy a good used setup fron someone that is a known builder or racer of boats.... Good luck with your quest for a boat.... [:D][:D]

RE: fastest hull for a 5m motor
Try a sprint cat or a stryker f41 cat, either of these hulls will run into the high 70's to low 80's with the right motor and setup....

RE: My MaxCat build
Home Depot will have 1/4" ply but nothing thinner or lighter. I built the 55" version and had $140 in wood, $50 in resin $20 in glass cloth and $10,000 in labor..... [sm=spinnyeyes.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

RE: MaxCat 61 My Build.
Marcel, I have a full size car, a Lincoln Continental, big old V8 motor and loves the highways here, It is huge compared to any Fiat..... It fit's in my wifes Excursion with no problems.. Nooh here are a couple of pics of my Maxcat.....

RE: MaxCat 61 My Build.
Well I built the 55" version and I have a few things to point out about this size boat. First it won't fit in the back seat of my Lincoln Continental.... It is pretty heavy to carry and launch by yourself... It isn't the fastest boat I own... But it is really cool running it on the lake......I hope you have a pick up truck to haul it in....[:D][:D][:D][:D]

RE: Modded Zens
I decided to try my hand at modifying a stock Zen this past winter. It took me a good 8 hrs to figure out what I needed to do and I slowly ground the cylinder until I got the timing numbers I was after... Since then I have done 3 more motors and I can do one in about 4-5 hrs as my confidence builds so will the speed I hope... I used the information at model gas boats by Scott Schnider. All of the work is done with a dremel tool and some good carbide bits, it's really pretty easy to do, but grinding into the first cylinder is the hard part... [:D][:D][:D]

RE: best way to start
You rreally need to adjust your needle settings first before you go and run the boat. It will make starting alot easier and you won't have to retrieve it on the water when it quits on you...

RE: My MaxCat build
I am trying several things on this hull to make life simple and the rubber bands on the radio box is one of them so far they don't leak with just water intrusion from running the boat..

RE: Another MaxCat built but only 48
The 48" version is looking great. It's great to have a scratch built hull run great on the maiden voyage.... Looks like it's time to paint now I have to say the 55" version is a challenge getting into the Lincoln Continental to take to the lake.... What prop are you running on your hull???

RE: My MaxCat build
I have been running the boat alot this weekend and I have one problem to fix. The magnets I used to hold the canopy on to the boat are too weak, I need either stronger magnets, or another system to hold the hatch on the boat that won't take away from the scale look..... The boat is running pretty fast and can run an oval at full throttle with no problems even with choppy water.... It handles very smooth and predictable, I'm really liking this design. Marcel I think you have a winner with the V2 design.....

RE: My MaxCat build
Thanks Scott, It is a great looking hull that is for sure...... There is nothing like building your own hull from a pile of wood and it runs great right out of the box... I have to give all of the credit to Marcel (Maxcorvette) for the hull design and sharing it with everyone... I put a small prop on it to keep the speed down while I was tuning the motor and drive. I wish the water was flat so I could have dialed it in more for speed, but I got 4 tanks of fuel thru it and still hit 45.9 GPS with it.. It will get alot of time running this weekend at the island I hope.....

RE: My MaxCat build
Thanks Marcel for moving them over here for me. I don't know why I can't post a picture here, I have even tried one at a time. Could it be the new editor setup???? I have some from today at the lake also to post...... I did some breaking in on the new motor and a few passes in some 6" rollers today this boat runs like a bear. I have to find a good prop and setup for it but right now it's at 45.9, not bad for the first day out and rough water...... I think my pictures just uploaded this time.........

I have had very good luck with a self modified X472 prop with my g23 motors... I trimmed the ears down and thinned sharpened and balanced it myself.... Great prop to start with IMHO.......

RE: Duplicating an existing hull...ETHICALLY!
Scott, I just had my first experience with gelcoat and I have to say it is alot different working with polyester resins and gelcoat than using west system epoxy resins. The PVA worked great even when your gelcoating the outside layer for the finish color like I did on my transom doorway... Your mold half looks great, how tight of a space are you working with between the hull and flange???

RE: My MaxCat build
The weather has been pretty crappy the last month so this project went slower than I would have liked but it's almost complete. I finished up the transom doorway tonite on my 32' cruiser. Here are a couple of pictures of the new doorway, I still have to do some welding on the rub rails where I cut the doorway in, but that's easy to weld the cap plates on the aluminum rub rail .... Now I can get back to work on my Maxcat next week....

Scott, I'm going to follow this thread to the bitter end, I'm glad your sharing this information with us all. I have an idea how it is done but seeing it step by step will get me building a mold of my version of the maxcat from Marcel with complete confidence.... I'll be watching for sure, Great thread[sm=spinnyeyes.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif][sm=wink_smile.gif][sm=wink_smile.gif][sm=wink_smile.gif]

RE: My MaxCat build
Marcel, Yes my son is right there helping me as I do this glass work. He keeps the beer cold and runs for lunch at noon time, he's getting some fishing in too...LOL You should hear the comments from the dockmates at the marina, they are all very suprised and interested in the progress. I have 3 more to do if I want the work.... I have it ready for gelcoat as of tonite, Having to go to work is slowing down the progress but I hope to have it done for the weekend.....

RE: My MaxCat build
Sorry I missed your post Virginian, The Maxcat is kind of on hold right now have recieved the decals and all of the other little things I needed so I should be able to wrap it up in a day or so, I just need to get the big boat done first. I have been spending alot of time with my son and my second fiberglass project, I'm adding a walk thru doorway on my 32' Cruiser... I was very scared to cut the transom out but once I did it went together pretty fast... I have some filling and sanding to do yet. Then I can gelcoat the area hopfully this week...... Here is a couple of pictures... If anyone had any suggestions or tips let me know

RE: Best Cat for Mod Zen 260????
I have 2 cats a stryker and sprint cat. The sprint cat is faster but needs very light chop to get the best speeds. The stryker likes more chop and slight wind to reach it's best performance. I would say maybe you need one of each your polling on so you have a hull for all conditions that could arise......[:D][:D][:D][:D]

RE: Tuned Pipe Help
Guy's, they are running 50 mph + in stock mono class with a canister muffler, with a pipe it should be easier! If the New RCMK lives up to it's billing it should be easier again!
Are they running 60 deep v's and a whare house hoby motor???? That was the original question, if that combo will hit 50+ MPH

RE: Tuned Pipe Help
I think that is wishful thinking to get a 60" v hull into the 50's with a single motor... Not that it can't be done but you need to spend alot of cash to make that happen...

RE: Tuned Pipe Help
Your hull style and motor will determine what pipe combo you may want to try. Steel pipes and headers usually are the best choice for all aplications. A tuned pipe is another way to tune your boat just like props and strut adjustments......
