RE: Scratch building 105
Hey Sammy - If you brush the part with the epoxy and put it back in the mould (after prep'ng it again..) you should get better results with less finishing.

RE: 1/7th Scale Composite Warbird P-40E Warhawk Build
You guessed it - that's a lower cowl section. The tool in all rights should have been at least a two piece mould with the forward section pulling straight off the nose. Don't be fooled by the test part, rather let it convince you of the durability of the materials involved. I stood on the mould and pulled and twisted that thing with all my might. Pile it into the ground, dust it off, pop out the dings and stick it back on. :) Lets see you do that with an ABS cowl - NOT!! We conquered the opaqueness issue with a couple of coats of automotive paint in the mould. So the next fuselage will get brown camo followed by green paint. I've carved enough hard balsa block and melted enough plastic in my mother's old oven to know that waiting overnight for a canopy frame to set up is almost too good to be true! Not bad for #2, but canopy #3 will be even better... :)

RE: 1/7th Scale Composite Warbird P-40E Warhawk Build
Thanks guys. Maybe next time Rumen! Hi LDM - I haven't yet finished a complete P40. I have however now paid for all of the materials used to date in this project with the output of my fuselage development cycle. ;-) Now to pay for the rest of the wing mould.....forward and onward my friends. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other.

RE: 1/7th Scale Composite Warbird P-40E Warhawk Build
Just what I had - it's really that easy this time. I actually want it to run out of the joint so that I can trim it out later - it's just there as glue for a butt seam forward of the firewall. The firewall itself is embedded in an exessively strong chin laminate that is tied directly to the wing saddle and involves no microballoons.
