RE: Shrike 40 from Plans
ORIGINAL: Servo481 Shrike Enthusiasts I built my Shrike about 4 years ago from a kit. I was inspired by one that I saw on the web with retracts. Also I wanted to add rudders to use as air brakes. I home made retracts, with the nose gear rotating 90 degrees to fit under the fuel tank. This Shrike needs 8 channels to operate, 2 for rudders, 2 for ailerons, 1 elevator, 1 Throttle, 1 gear, 1 for nose gear steering. Its powered by an OS ringed 50 with a tuned pipe and weights 5.5 pounds. In level flight it does 135 mph and more in a dive. To slow down I crow the rudders out, raise the ailerons up and lower the elevator. With the extra drag it slows down and is easy to land. I hope the images down loaded ok I'm new at this. Ray [image][/image]
Nice!!!I like the retract install. Good job.[8D]
ORIGINAL: freakingfast From OS's website: ''With advanced technology that allows it to produce 25% more power than the 46VR-DF, O.S.' new 46VX-DF is perfect for pilots of medium-size jets.'' Personally, I don't think its quite that much difference. Maybe 10-15% at most.
So is this one as reliable as the other OS's, and good for a speed plane?

Wonder what differences there are between the .46VRDF and the 46 VXDF, I picked a NIB .46VRDF at our local swap meet for 60$, the instructions say 2000 to 25000 RPm range.

RE: Engine test stand (Show and tell)
I wonder what the neighbours think, ahh to heck with them anyways. I know running my OS vfdf out back I sometimes wonder how far the sound actually travels, but if its windy in the right direction it seems to take alot of the sound away, I had it wound up slightly rich, and I went to the front of the house and took my earmuffs off and I still couldn't believe how loud it still sounded, so I quickly retreated to the cover of my back property, so I wouldn't be spotted.[X(]

Engine test stand (Show and tell)
Well it was nice out today so I started tuning my OS .25 VFDF, and I got to try out my new stand so I thought I would share some pics, Its very easily adjusted for different size engines by loosening one bolt in "T" slots, same goes for the tank height adjustment, then two slotted toe clamps on each mounting flange. Still deciding what to do for linkage, made a handle so far. Also for added safety I drilled a reamed a .125 dowel hole on each side of the mount blocks in front of the engine mounting flanges. The whole unit is just clamped to whatever...picnic table etc... That OS .25VFDF is LOUD[:@] with a pipe, "DEAF"inately wearing earmuffs is a must!

RE: Patriot XL with OS 120 AX
I flew mine with Robart retracts and a JETT 90L also and was using the Apc 11x8 mostly, and yes ground clearance is an issue with retracts, a 14" prop would definately not work. I also had to add weight to the tail, even with a 6V pack as far back as possible, all in all I loved flying the plane though, lots of fun.[:)]

RE: airplane for this engine
Is it a VF DF or a VF ABC engine, the way to tell is to take off the backplate and see if it says" 25 DF " on the back of the crank, and a "2CB" carb, the VF abc has different exhaust timing for about 18000 peak rpm, more of a pattern engine built for prop use, the DF is set up to run at about 24000 for fan use so if you want to prop it you'll want to prop it to run up to at least 23000.

Added the how fast tubes, and servos, hatch style, also finished glassing it too in the critical areas. The throttle servo took a little bit of head scratching, I forgot about it and said where am I going to put that, he only place really was in the next rib bay near the front, it 'll work fine.
