RE: Torro 1/16 Professional Metal Edition King Tiger
Airbrushler got it in one. Plastic/metal, Tamiya/HL, pro/non-pro...who cares, really? Isn't this supposed to be about having fun? After all-and let's be a little realistic here-we're grown-ups playing with toy tanks, regardless of the spin we try to put on it. There's a real danger of taking this whole RC thing way too seriously. My other hobby is model railways and I face the same things with forum members on MR sites. 'It isn't realistic' they cry. Well, if you think a plastic steam loco powered by an electric motor, emitting electronically-generated smoke is 'realism'... Have a great day everyone. Cheers, Snake

RE: 1/16 Metal Tiger Kit
There were 13 basic Marks of the Centurion. I would choose the Mk3 with the 20-pounder gun. It was far more advanced than the preceding Marks. As one of the most successful tank designs the Centurion would make a great alternative to the endless, predictable procession of Tigers, Panthers and Shermans, T34 and Panzers. There's a whole other world of armoured fighting vehicles out there to model-why take the safe, boring route? It's gotten old.
ORIGINAL: AERO-MATE Hi, Jerry Thans for your suggestion. I personal like the Centurion Tank. It has some specific designs using for recover vehicle. So we can add Hydraulic system in this tank. The problem is there many protypes of the Centurion Tank. Which should be choosen? MK1 or Mk2? I saw your 2 cents on your website. They are beautiful. They are diecast, right? We will search more info about Centurion Tank. Jack
RE: HL Tiger 1 questions
The sound quality is a function of both the speaker and its enclosure. To reduce the high frequencies which, at higher volumes, I find a bit intrusive, I'd suggest lining the inside of the hull with thin foam which will act as a crude treble attenuator. I tried something similar years ago with some cheap and nasty hi-fi speakers. I lined the cabinet interiors with carpet offcuts and the results were surprisingly good. A good quality speaker with a high efficiency rating (expressed in dB), will boost the perceived output of the amp; the higher the efficiency, the better that the electrical power is translated into mechanical power.

I'm glad I appear not to be the only one who finds the appearance of an HLKT a big yawn. Where are some more examples of the wealth of allied armour? It isn't as if there's a shortage of prototypes available in various museums. Not ONE British RTR tank is inexcusable.
ORIGINAL: Panther G Who Carer's. there are already 2 KT's on the market as is. This is becoming an exercise in futility with these manufacturer. Just keep making the same old shit warmed over and over. How about a Cromwell or a Valentine. How about a IS 2, How about some modern stuff like an M-60 or Abrams or Challenger II OH PLEASE PLEASE a Challenger II then we really need a T-72 with all the bells and whistles. At the moment i am done with buying things from China. I'm just not going to do it any more. So it is what ever Tamiya comes out with is what i will be limited to buying. No more Hong Kong garbage for me. I don't care what anyone thinks. Their economic policies are Killing this country and we just keep feeding the addiction. And dont give me that crap that prices on everything will go up. I would very much like a Tamiya model but the simple fact is I can't afford one right now. I love the challenge of a complex kit; I remember as a kid trying to make sure all the turrets on an Airfix B17 were in exactly the right place before glueing on the other half of the fuselage! One day...

For me snow equals frozen water. Tanks have lots of holes in them for the snow to get in and melt. They also have lots of electrics low down. Water+electrics=disaster. No snow driving for me!

Thanks guys. The way I have to approach this is to see them as 'stuff' which can be replaced when things start to look up. Unfortunately I also had to sell a valuable collection of books-all first editions. I took a pretty big hit on those, selling to a dealer.

Poverty sale! Ok, I have an HL Tiger 1 (IR version), with 3:1 box, painted, high-grade metal tracks and metal sprockets and idlers. Absolutely stock and unmolested. Also an HL KV-1 with metal tracks, sprockets and idlers and gearbox (BB version). Both are in full working order and with controllers. I painted the sprockets and idlers on the KV to match. UK buyers only please.

www.tankzone.co.uk has a good website which is a good resource for showing you what you can get, cheaper, elsewhere. For example they are selling the KV-1 with metal upgrades at UK£209. I bought mine from www.howesmodels.co.uk for less than UK£100!

www.tankzone.co.uk offer the Tiger 1 with metal lower hull, road wheels, 3:1, zimmerit and high grade tracks all as an (expensive) stock item. I ordered a less expensive version without the metal hull and road wheels but with the nice tracks. It also opening metal front hatches which makes lubrication a breeze, and a metal gun barrel.

It's beginning to hit-and hit hard. It's got to the point where I'm having to sell-off superfluous stuff and my tanks have to, sadly, go. If there's anyone in the UK interested in an un-modded, as new KV-1 (BB, metal upgrades), or an un-modded Tiger 1 (3:1, IR, upgraded, stock, painted metal tracks), also 'as new', both HL, please PM me. Sorry, I can't get the classified section to work.

RE: How to fix a broken shock/spring on HL KV-1?
No suspension issues at all with my KV.
ORIGINAL: Panther G The KV is known to have this issue right from the beginning. Mine would not even sit level on level ground. It sagged too the right front. This is a glaring oversight on HL's part as it is noticeable right out of the box. I am surprised it has not been addressed at the factory yet as these have been out over a year now. there is no call for this type of issue to continue this long. It just fuels the Brand X Vs Brand Y fight and HL just brings it on itself by not making such a minor fix. No excuse IMO.
My HL Tiger came with upgrade (painted) metal tracks, metal idlers and sprockets and 3:1 gearing. It has worked perfectly-apart from the smoker of course! If I had to be restricted to only one tank the Tiger 1 would be it.

Just FYI an excellent book I found on weathering techniques, 'The Art of Weathering', by Martyn Welch. It's aimed at model railroaders but the basic principles are the same, and he explains the process very clearly. Wild Swan publications, 1993, ISBN 1 87103 11 9.

RE: Tank newbie looking for help/recomendations
Metal tracks and gears are absolutely worth it. As far as HL go be sure that you get a model with full metal upgrade including sprockets and idlers. Plastic sprockets/idlers aren't really man enough to handle heavy metal tracks.
ORIGINAL: SyCo_VeNoM
ORIGINAL: Eggman1965 I'm with Panther G. I'm also a total newbie and for my first tank I bought a HL Tiger I with metal tracks. In my opinion the HL Tiger hull/rear idler wheel setup isn't strong enough for metal tracks. In retrospect the base model from Matomart (I shop there because I'm in Canada and they have been great) with plastic tracks would have been a better choice for me. You can get into a Panther G for less than $140 or Jagd Panther for less than $100. Either of these tanks will be loads of juvenile fun, just know that they have limitations on scale realism and performance, don't bother trying to make them into something they are not unless you are a real master modeller and love to spend money. Now: Welcome to the club!
wasn't planning on making them something there not. scale realism isn't that important to me in all truth. I go more for fun factor :D BTW you make it sound like the metal gears and chains are not worth the added cost. I was actually wondering that if they were really worth it last night at work when I was thinking about it.
Yep, and it isn't as if there aren't extant examples of British armour to go and measure up...heck I'll even throw in a few pounds toward their air-fare to England! Come on Mr. Tamiya, Mr. Heng Long....anyone?
ORIGINAL: Panther G Nope, Still not buying it. I will NOT buy another Tamiya tank until the decide it is in there best interest to get off the can and get to work on something NEW, not the same old tired stuff everyone keeps putting out. Quite stealing or buying molds from other manufacturers and build something NEW. Now, i will continue converting the tanks I do like with suitable Tamiya electronics, but no new tanks until there is a NEW TANK. Tamiya could have burried everyone if they had put out a Cromwell or Comet, or Centurian, Or Hell , even a Chaffey. Hell why not?
RE: Want To Try Tanks
ORIGINAL: strong So really anyone of the all metal upgrade tanks will be a good first tank.
Yes, I believe so. They seem to be pretty sturdy so long as you bear in mind they are not designed to absorb the kind of abuse that their full-size prototypes were. Avoid sand, mud, water and keep to firm and dry surfaces and your model will thank you! My first tank was the HL Tiger and it has worked fine. The KV is also a very physically imposing model.

RE: Want To Try Tanks
ORIGINAL: Panther G The KV-1 is not really the best choice for a first tank. It needs work on the springs and other stuff. When you shoot the gun the damn thing looks like it is trying to pull a reverse wheelie. It is also way to fast.
I'm not sure I agree. The KV can be driven slowly-at least the metal upgrade version can. You just need to be gentle with the joysticks. I have no problem driving mine as relatively realistically as my 3:1 geared Tiger.
