2.5T 13800KV w/RX8 in my CRT.5 test vid
2.5T 13800KV w/RX8 in my CRT.5 startup test vid. Only used 3s A123 and soldered up 4 caps of 1000uF 35V for Mrs. Ripple. Don't mind the wiring for now as I finished it at 1.30 AM. Used 6mm motor plugs, so I should be good once I have some time to actually do a full run. 12T is the smallest pinion I have and I believe 11T would the be smallest I can use for a nice gear mesh. As you can see, I don't use no stinkin' sensor cable and still get that high kv motor started smoothly. But that might actually chance when I gun the trigger This setup is actually made to proof to some fellow dragracers that a 2.5T motor can be used with the RX8. As I sold both my dragsters, I opted to use the CRT.5 just to proof how robust this esc really is. Tekin indeed does make a good ESC. I say it's as good as the Quarks and Schulze now.

Looking good there Sunny. Greg and you did a great job on the design. Seems that I have to get me one to see how much power I can throw at that thing. Love the squirl cage motor mount.

RE: Updated Mamba Max with ESC plugs
The Mamba Max was always able to handle 5S and some did 6S. However to handle the bigger loads, the additional caps are needed. TVS's are not a bad idea to add, when wanting to run 6S.

Updated Mamba Max with ESC plugs
I've decided I got tired of the same 'ol look of the Mamba Max and did something about it. Took out the wires and soldered plugs instead. Power wires were upgraded from 13AWG to 12AWG. Motor wires were left stock and got 3.5mm plugs on the ESC side. This time I can mess around with different motor wire lengths in all my cars without being stuck with wires that were cut too short. I used Lutach's 25V capacitor bank for that extra smoothness at startup and hard braking al the way up to 5S.
ORIGINAL: dancomer you did but plan on more coming your way lol, if that is alright :)
No problem. Here's what I did to my RX8 Tekin to race 4 pole and 2 pole motors. Swapped in a different fan, 6mm motor plugs, 5mm battery plugs, two capacitors and dual 1500W TVS. Should handle anything I throw at it. RE: Neu Drag cars
Neu does make a 9900kv 1506 motor. I use Neus in my other cars. I don't use them in my 1/10 dragsters. 1/10 two pole motors produce more rpms then the 4 pole counterpart, unless it's the kevlar wrapped Plettenbergs. Now if you had a 4WD/AWD dragster, a 4 pole motor will work for you. Everybody uses mamba's as they are popular and warranty issues are easy taken care off. A Qaurk for example will produce more power then a Mamba Max, but getting one and getting it warrantied is a pita. A tekin ESC is very smooth for dragracing as well and the RX8 ESC is an animal. I have a LT ESC that produces more power then a MM and is on par with a Qaurk. If you do decide to give the Neu motor a try, use 15 degrees of timing for dragracing with a max of 18 degrees if your system can handle it. Use a Y wind motor to take advantage of the timing increase. BTW, I found that a the B50, C40 and C50 Hacker motors spool up the quickest compared to other motors, but are not popular in the dragracing crowd. I'm guessing many are not willing to invest to try something new. For max power use additional capacitors to reduce ripple currents, and/or when long power wires are used. It's best to use parallel lipo battery packs to reduce resistance and that is one the reasons 40C Thunderpower batts produce the most power.

RE: GCRCDR 2009 Annual Points Series Race #2
I blew both my diffs up and melted part of the diff casing on my onroad demon. Only have my little crt.5 left, which isn't much.

RE: POST YOUR DRAGS AND INTERNALS UP IN HERE
Thanks man. I just finished it up last nite. Cleaned the body+chassis up with some WD40 and stuck a dragracer friendly ESC in it. The ESC turns that 2.5 without any mods and without a sensor.

I would still use the good cells.

Mamba max works with motors up to 12000kv!
The mamba max can do 5S if you really wanted too, but the BEC and voltage cutoff needs to be disabled. Otherwise it will be a 50/50 chance of the magic smoke coming out. I've tested the Mamba max with 12000kv(2.5T) motors, 11000kv(3T), 9800kv(3.5T), 8500kv(7T) motors with success. To do so, it is adviced to run additional low esr caps at the ESC voltage input to reduce ripple current. Motors tested were: X10 LRP 7T >w4s1p A123 X11 LRP 4.5T, 3.5T w/3s1p A123 X12 LRP 3.0T >w/2s2p A123 LT-2.5T >w/2S 6500mah maxamps LT-3.5T >w/2S 6500mah maxamps Orion 2.5 >w/2s2p A123 LRP X10 and X11 have the biggest rotors. So for dragracing, you might want to swap in the smaller diameter rotors for smoother takeoffs and reduced torque.

RE: A123, effects of cold temps?
I just run my packs in the cold. Once they warm up, they are fine. But in my amp sipping setups, I just warm the packs up a bit before running them for max performance. I use 1mm thick heatshrink on all my cells to keep them "warmer" for max performance and also helps in the cold weather. 2V is what I set my A123 cutoff at. If my cells do go below this voltage, my FMA/Balancepro charger does it magic and bring them back up from the dead. It charges them at 5mah I believe, until the cell voltage comes back up and then dumps the full 10amps into them. I do bring them down quite often and have no problems with them. I even charge my 6s1p pack in lipo mode(4.2V) and the pack still takes 2500mah. My older packs take in 2200mah, but they still put out all the amps I need. In the first pic you can see that I my voltage in higher at the 164amp load. The second pic shows the voltage being quite lower when the pack pack was "cold". btw the temps in the snapshots are recorded of the ESC. RE: Pro Stock Brushless
When running a 2.5T motor, it's mostly all about HP/rpms. If you want more torque, you need to swap in a bigger diameter rotor, but the kv will go down a bit. The other option is to go with a longer can motor with the same rotor diameter to gain the torque. There is always a debate of the benefits between sensored and sensorless setups for dragracing. Sensored is the smoothest setup, period. Sensorless has power. Combine the two and you get a hybrid, which I'm having fun with it. You have to watch your gearing when go with a really high kv motor. Braking might take a bit longer then you are used to. The mamba setups are great. But if you want fun and want want more then what the mamba has to offer, look into a hybrid setup.

We will be running 9200kv and 12000kv motors for '09. Castle is too late in the game with their high kv motor.

RE: 10S car ESC for the power hungry racers
I have used my 200A ESC with 6s A123 with a 4800kv medusa motor. That same ESC has ran a 2.5T and 3.5T on 3s2p A123 with no problems.
