RE: LT-40 Rebuild.
I did the kitty litter thing once with mix results and the K2R which is expensive, but works slightly better than kitty litter and is quicker. I found that the best thing to do is sand the surface which has most the oil in it, then lay on some alcohol. Put paper towels on the wood then iron it with a very hot household iron. That removes a lot of oil quickly, just repeat until you don't get much oil anymore. What would work well is a oil based glue, but I don't know of any.[:@] I just found it easier to sand the insides, then flood the raised areas with 10 second CA, and drop on a piece of wood. If it delaminates in the coming months I'll report it back here.

RE: Olimpic II electric conversion sugge3stions?
ORIGINAL: uliner I have been gifted an older Olympic II glider. I would like to convert it to electric.
I have a very good plane for convertion, the OLYII carries weight very well.
I am looking for low cost setups for this airplane. I don't want screaming climbs, just brisk ones.
That's good, you'll catch more thermals if it takes you a minute to get to height than if it takes you 10 seconds, IF you use the time to watch for good air.
I am thinking something like a rimfire 10 would do the job? Or is there a better solution? Cheap is good hobby king is OK as well.
Not sure about this, I'd say you want a motor that makes as much power as a .15~.20 nitro.
Would like to use a large ish folding prop and some to the 3 cell batteries I already have.
The big prop is fashionable, but you need a motor that can turn it and batteries that can feed it. I have a 120" sailplane that I have a 12" prop on, people all said I needed a 15~16" prop, mine works fine, link to my plane: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4JxiemLMCo @ about 2:30 it shows looking back on launch. I have several 2M that have 550 can motors in them and they have 8~9" props, they fly well. The OLYII might need a little more motor though, and I wouldn't use a can motor anymore. If that Rimfire .10 can turn a 8" prop I'd go with a 8" folder. What batteries do you have?
The airplane is build but I will cut off the nose block and get new servos and RX. Also will 9gm servos have enough toque?
You'll want servos that have ~50oz of torque.

RE: chemical to remove old covering
ORIGINAL: raptureboy Key ingredient in glow fuel is methanol.
The KEY ingredient is the nitro, it is a fantastic solvent. I pull the covering off, the take a scrap of covering and iron it over the stuck on old covering, it works sometimes.

LT-40 Rebuild.
I've been flying this LT-40 for about six months when the radio stop working. The plane went in from about 200' in a shallow dive, ripped the LG off and knocked the firewall loose. When I opened it up I found I had not tighten the screw in the fuel tank lid. For the last six months I've been soaking the inside of the plane with fuel, it finally made it to the Rx and caused the crash. I hate working on fuel soaked anything, wood or covering, but I love the plane so this is what I did: I sanded the wood to remove any paint or oily wood. Installed 3/32" balsa on both sides of the fuse, on the inside. Installed new 3/32" lite ply from the firewall back to the first bulkhead. Made and installed a new firewall. Made a ply doubler plate for the main gear attachment points. I use 3/4 quarter stock behind the firewall, the ply floor, anf the LG mounting plate. I decided to add some 1/16 balsa to floor the engine compartment for looks.

RE: Large volume hotbox
Tom I think I did, (it was 5~6 years ago), with the small space heater, it was 1500 watts with a fan. I was drying HydroCal 30 molds, I needed ~140° for about a week and the space heater made me nervous, the lights held the temp I need.

Tom Mine was 6'x2'x2', the foam was 2" thick, so mine was bigger than what you're trying to make.

RE: Large volume hotbox
I made one once. I used 2" x 2' x 8' pink foam from HomeDepot just duck-taped together and a small space heater, but I had to shorted out the thermostat to get very hot. I think in the end I used a 1000 watt floodlight. Just stick a meat thermometer through the pink foam. You want a small fan to mix the air.

RE: Scratch Designed/Built Sailplane Fuselage
A looks like the rear of the pod is a little abrupt to me. B or F, leaning to F because it looks like a motor with 3° or 4° of down-thrust would blend in well. C,D,G, H, and I might disturb the air over the center-section causing more drag. The C might not need down-thrust due to the high thrust line. I don't get E.

RE: Ugly Duckling
When you are glassing make sure you go all the way up to and around the wing rod, (I don't remember it having a wing tube, just some 10mm grommets?). You want a load path from the bottom of the nose and wheel up to the wing rod.

RE: SV 50cc
Yea, that's about 60° before TDC, it will make it run really hot. with poor power, and it will kick-back. Loosen the black sensor, then move it to the right in the picture until it's about 3/8" away from the magnet. You may have to either elongate one of the slots, grind some of the built in washer off the screw, or both. You will find the engine will run much better after the timing is corrected. Have you looked to see if there is a steel button pressed into the crank to keep the con rod on?

RE: Ugly Duckling
Can't you reach the inside of the tail-boom by removing the elevator servo to do the patch internally? I'd remove the servo do the repair, then replace the rear-mounted elevator servo with a flexible push-rod. This would remove about 6oz of lead from the nose. If you don't want to do the flex cable you might just put a small servo in the elevator itself.
