Nice job on the gear doors! Wish i would have thought in that direction when I opened up mine.... Instead I just opened up the belly and wing to allow free passing of the wheels. Watching how you complete this carefully now [:-]
ORIGINAL: evan-RCU Well, unfortunately it has more drag. Fortunately it can fit more batteries if you do 2 3S packs of about 4000mA. With that and a 1512-2Y and a 8x7 to start and then a 8x8 you'd have a ton of fun. Watch the classifieds here or pu a want add for a 15 series of 1300 to 1500kV and then prop it appropriately.
Evan, Do you think this will give more speed than the Webra .36 on a tuned pipe that's currently in the plane? Have it running an 8x8.

You should be fine on your cooling. Did you open up the firewall area where you have your header going thru to allow air to pass over the cannister and pass thru?

Wow. The engine looks almost lost in there with all that room as compared to mine lol. At least it allows you lots of options for all the lead you're going to need. See the stack on mine? Wish that was silver instead [:D]

Started out with a 24x 12 Biela WWII scale, beautiful looking prop, robbed too much RPM's for my liking.Best I could get was 5,500.Plane flew a little doggy. Went to a 24 x 12 Mejzlik Sport. Not as pretty by far, but gained around 5-600 rpm putting the engine in a better rpm range. Flew more than a little quicker too.

RE: Easy Tiger F-8F Bearcat
Yeah, you're going to need a bit of lead. I've got 2 lbs sitting out on a shelf just behind the prop hub and don't have the added weight in the tail that you do. Curious as to whether you'll have the ground clearance to swing a 2 blade prop now that you've installed 5" wheels. The one drawback to my using the 6.4 twin is that due to ground clearance I'm stuck with using 3 bladed props. Not an issue power wise, and while on the norm I prefer the look of a 3 blade, it sure does get expensive if you tip over. Which for me so far I've done every landing due to my lack of experience landing such a heavy bird added to the fact the gear ripped out so easily. 3 flights , 3 $125 props.
ORIGINAL: evan-RCU Though some impressive speeds have been attained by outrunners recently I am still of the belief an inrunner is better for speed and an outrunner for torque (hovering and 3D)... The Neu's are all speed... unless you slap a gear box on it... [:D]
I'd definitely agree with that statement. It just stands to reason on a same size motor if the armature is driving the prop rather than the outer case you will achieve higher speeds since the armature is of a smaller diameter so makes more revolutions than the larger outer case.

RE: OUTLAW from EXTREME FLIGHT
I might actually give a Neu a try if I could figure out which one it is I should use lol. On the Scorpion, I contacted Dan Malone (the guy in the video with the 180mph ARF) and he said he kept wiping out Scorpions as the shafts would whip too much and kept wiping out the guts of the motor. He eventually went to a Hyperion (built by Scorpion, but I think with better components). One of the reasons I like the Motrofly is because it's a little shorter (however a little wider) than other motors in the same power band which I would think would make for better shaft support. I don't know if the extra width will cause me any mounting issues though. Have yet to look at the firewall or get the exact outside dimension on the motor.

RE: Easy Tiger F-8F Bearcat
Which motor are you using again? If it's 100c.c or better the added weight won't mean much. My plane hauls A@@ on the 106c.c. at high throttle settings and slows down for nice gentle flying without stalling at 35lbs. I set my CG at 8" as it was recommended somewhere earlier by Howard in this thread to use 8.5" as the reference but wasn't sure if he was correct. My plane flies slightly tail heavy. He was indeed correct. That being the case, and the French gentleman also setting his at the 8.6" mark would make your setting of 7.2" very tail heavy and more than likely very hard to control.

RE: Easy Tiger F-8F Bearcat
SJN, I have a feeling you'll be adding a decent amount of lead to the nose of your plane when you go to balance it. Mine has a little over 2 lbs without having rebalanced it yet for the new wheels. Actually, I'm hoping since the wheels weigh a bit more than what was on there I may be able to reduce some of the lead. Rudder servo's in the stock location, all batts are up right near the firewall, doubled up the fiberglass in the cowl over the thin from the factory, have a Brison 106 up front which weighs a decent bit yet still had to add that much weight on a shelf out over the motor to get the weight as far forward as I could in order to balance correctly.
ORIGINAL: SJN Stock retracts look ok. ''if you land like a butterfly on sore feet'' i guess they will be fine for some time [:)]
Your mistaken. His comment "land like a butterfly refer to AFTER upgrading the retracts and AFTER beefing up the retract mounts. Unless your a highly accomplished pilot who has MUCH experience landing a heavy large warbird with flaps I would HIGHLY suggest you invest in better, thicker retracts and stiffen up the retract mounts better BEFORE you even think about maidening this plane. You'll save yourself a lot of disappointment and repairs in the long run.

RE: Easy Tiger F-8F Bearcat
If you want some really nice wheels, although they are heavy, get in touch with Darryl at Sierra Retracts. I just got a set of 5" ones from him that are really really nice and pretty close to what they should look like. Nice big wheel, low profile tire, 8 splines in the wheel. 4.75" would have been perfect but he doesn't make them that size. The Robart tire that's on them is nice and firm too so should help to keep from getting bouncy landings which this airframe will only take so much of. They were $125 for the set.Below is a pic of them. He also makes a set of truly scale articulating retracts that if utilized would mean a bit less cutting of the fuselage since they draw back into the wing when retracting.I don't have them so have no idea what the cost is.

I can attest to what RCPILOTVA said. His plane is just an awesome flying machine. The best flying warbird I've had the pleasure of watching fly. Read through the thread and do ALL the suggested fixes and you will be thrilled with the results. This is an incredible flying warbird with the right power plant on it once you've done the fixes. DON'T do the fixes and you'll be very dissatisfied with the end result as you will likely end up with a broken heap of busted up fiberglass.
