RE: Ideas for illiminating tip stall, or undersireable wing drop upon stall.
Just a couple observations about your efforts with this modified Maverick as I have an unmodified EDF Maverick that is roughly 15 1/2 lbs RTF and has lasted me for quite a few years: 1) Leading edge droop - this actually was a BVM available mod for the Viper and Maverick during the nitro days with these models. More forgiving low speed handling with some sacrifice of top speed. I don't find

RE: Jetpower 2012
On a few days of holiday in Germany after JetPower, can't easily post up pictures because I'm just on my iPad. Will post when I get back to the States and my desktop. This was my 1st JetPower and I must say it is a real extravaganza compared to any event in the USA. Very tightly controlled and scheduled flying in keeping with the German way of doing things, no complaints, awsome flying, and a really beautiful flying site. The trade halls were just mind boggling......so many goodies that you simply can't get in the a States. Been by to visit Daniel Schübeler at his facility near Paderborn today. Back down to Frankfurt tomorrow and a flight home........ -Mike

RE: Redundant RX packs are they overkill?
ORIGINAL: Ron101 This sums up the argument for anything to be between the RX and RX packs in my eyes: http://www.hangtimes.com/parallel_packs.html
Read Ron's posted link....... Diodes, fancy power safe boxes, isolator circuits, whatever, are unneeded.........It is urban legend OK, a potentially bad/shorted pack CAN NOT "draw down" a good pack. There is no "charge", "reverse charge", or otherwise catastrophic compromise by a plain old simple parallel circuit. That said; if you like complexity and more "bling" then have a ball......if it makes you feel better.

RE: going elec need advice
Any previous high power electric experience? I ask because 90mm 4000+ watts in a larger model is really pushing the capability of the power system compaired to 100mm and larger. Pretty specialized application but works great for those experienced with it. iMO the sweet spot power-weight would be 100mm, 110mm or light weight 120mm. The 127mm size can bulk up pretty fast..... If you are truly into a turnkey solution you can't go wrong with a BVM.........just some duct mods.

RE: Tail Tube for 90mm ducted fan
ORIGINAL: tinker27 so say you have an 100mm fan then with say 100mm going in to fan what should the out be at end of fusalage ? Neil
That depends on what fan you have, each is different as to "FSA" ......(Fan Swept Area - area of the circle covered by the blades MINUS the area covered by the outer diameter of the motor holder) Typically you set the exhaust "area" at 80-90% of "FSA", work backwards from the area to derive the required diameter of the exhaust. A decent place to start is 85% FSA This number can also be dependent of how much intake area you actually have to feed the fan, If you had tight intakes then you don't want the exhaust area to be greater than intake area........no matter what the FSA calculation tells you it would require tightening up the exhaust for decent performance. -Mike

RE: Hawker Hunter 1/6th scale ARF from Flying Legends
Question/help: Does anyone know a source for 3 view or engineering drawings or the MB 2 or 3H seat? Any scale line drawings would be fine, I can scale to 1:6 no problem. I emailed Phil Noel about this & offering to pay for drawings (or a kit), but got no reply; I'm very impressed by his rendition of the seat in his Hunter, he must have had something to work from? Actual drawings would be so much easier than just eyeballing it from the various pictures found on the web. -Mike

RE: Savex L39
Something does not add up with your description: 1) The Savex L-39 is a 90mm size model 2) the DS-30 is a 69mm fan Either you have a DS-30 (which won't fit the airframe) or you mis-spoke and you really have a 90mm DS-51? I'd guess by your motor description that you have a DS-51 Use this fan calc to refine your choice of batteries and expected power: http://www.s4a.ch/eflight/fancalc_e.htm Suggestion; don't go cheap on servos, use at least metal gear and enough torque.

RE: manual fuel shut off before or after pump?
I didn't say or mean that the ball valve itself was/is the problem.......Festo connections - ie: tube into Festo - are somewhat prone to air bubbles under suction "if" all is not perfectly done. That is all I was referencing. (your results may vary in the Southern Hemisphere?) ......... Certainly considering Coriolis effect, local vertical, and all that [:D]

RE: manual fuel shut off before or after pump?
Only one negative that I can see with having the shut off before the pump. "If" the shutoff is a Festo ball valve type then one has to be aware that Festo fittings generally are recognised to do better under pressure rather than suction. There are a few reported instances of air bubbles from a Festo that was fitted on the tank side. A barbed valve would, of course, not have this issue. My 2 cents......

RE: Hawker Hunter 1/6th scale ARF from Flying Legends
progress update: Finally got the Wren120 installed along with all the tanks and GBR Cat plumbed. Still need to do the pump, valves, ECU and IO board, Added a small board behind the cockpit for the air fill valves and Weatronics battery monitor on/off plug. 3 fill valves because I have individual air tanks for gear, brakes, and speedbrake (in case of speedbrake leak or overuse it won't kill the brakes or gear) Air valves, sequencer, and the air plumbing are on an added lower board underneath the main receiver board. Should have known..... aired up the retracts/doors for a check.....the OTHER main gear inner door cylinder leaked. Fortunately I had ordered a matching spare cylinder when i had to replace the right main one. 15 minute job and now all is well. Just a fortunate thing the nose door cylinder is good.....(so far). Wish the manufacturers would just get with it and use decent cylinders to begin with.

RE: Tail Tube for 90mm ducted fan
ORIGINAL: AMA 74894 .............TYPICALLY, (for an EDF) the thrust tube is optional........
Not true, a "typical" EDF will not perform well at all without a thrust tube, unless you are talking about little depron profile types. Tubes can (as mentioned above) be simply made using rolled Mylar drafting film. You want the exhaust to be about 85% to as small as 80% of Fan Swept Area. Good WAG for a 90mm fan is 70-75mm outlet Mike Warren www.performance-edf.biz

The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." RE: Another A-10
Looking fwd to seeing it Al. I think there were only three 2-seaters made, and I dunno whether any are still fying...but what a ride that would be! Saw one demo at RIAT last year and I couldn't believe the snatch pulls the driver was making at the bottom of dummy firing runs...but then the A-10 was truly built like a brick s**t-house! Cheers, Dick
Actually Fairchild only produced one 2 seater, was intended to sell the enhanced night attack capability of the late 1970's technology. The thing is so easy to fly that there was never a perceived need for a 2 seat trainer version. -Mike
