RE: a few questions following the MINARE's maiden flight
Try to put the c.g. little forward. Those BPA´s easily tolerate some extra ounces, even go smoother through large loops and cuban eights then...[;)]

RE: a few questions following the MINARE's maiden flight
Hi Paul, this agility around the axes as you describe also could be resulting from a c.g. quite far aft. The pattern planes of the Curare era usually are quite docile, forgiving planes, even with back c.g. But you may just try to move c.g. about 0.5" forward and watch what happens. Enjoy the pattern meeting! In July we will have a casual metting of pattern plane pilots here in germany, both recent ones but also classical BPA. Dominik

RE: a few questions following the MINARE's maiden flight
This is a fast plane, and the Webra 50 loves to rev, especially on a tuned pipe. I would expect the plane to go around 100+mph. What did you fly before? At this speed, small flap deflections work very well.... If you kept some pieces of your cut-off header, you may try to insert back such a piece of approx. 0.4" lenght into the silicone coupler, between header and pipe. Hopefully

RE: MK KITS LISTING
Hello Bryan, yes, the Fuji plans are in little bit delicate condition. There is another plan (Skymaster 40) that I am supposed to get it scanned. I will do so with the Fuji plan, too. I will try to get this done during later summer, as there is currently a lot of work in my real life´s world. It is just so nice to chat once a while about those nice old pattern planes and MK kits. RE: MK KITS LISTING
How about this one, MK Fuji 60. Nice lines, a little bit different shape from those more front-canopy designs like Blue Angel, Cosmos, Aurora, etc. Maybe it was a intermediate step between Thunderbird and Blue Angel?

RE: Saito 200Ti break-in issues
ORIGINAL: MAAC Are you guys using muffler pressure?
Yes, I take exhaust pressure from one of the pipes. The engine just runs great, not any issue. Std. Saito plugs, Microsens onboard glow system, 8% Nitro 15% oil. I switched from 18x8 to 17x8 APC, which seems to be the perfect fit for this plane / engine combo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ujdr_FuWgM

RE: MK Aurora 60 build - engine installation question
Hi Achim, der Motor ist festgeschraubt. Das ist einfacher, aber natürlich etwas lauter. Mein Metterhausen Quasar mit einem 61er Webra LS Heckauslass auf Gummielementen ist leiser. English: No flexible engine installation, engine bolted down to the wood rails. This may create some more noise, but it keeps things simple. Dominik

RE: MK Aurora 60 build - engine installation question
Well, I have to admit during the Aurora build I was lucky to get an old german book about Pattern flying which has a nice Phoenix 7 plane on its cover. :) This book was always somewhere around in my hopbby room. It even shows on one of the engine installation pics. Sometimes a good inspiration is just very welcome! Dominik

RE: MK Aurora 60 build - engine installation question
Got the liner and piston of my Hanno Special back some weeks ago after that sleeve shrinkage process. Now found the time to make test runs. Wow, I have to say the test run did exceed my expectations - it just works! Engine runs as it would have never had any trouble. At least for my case this was the solution. There is no visible mark to the liner, it looks as before. So, I just gladly accepted the engine is back in order, installed it into the Aurora and made some nice flights last sunday. Kept the belly pan off, this will receive some more slots to allow the hot air behind cylinder head to escape. Still have to do the CG shift to the back, since I need somewhat too much down elevator during inverted flight. Nice plane! Flaps help to slow down for landing, mixed with little down elevator. Looking forward to accumulate more flights with this beauty of a plane.

RE: OS FS 200 & 200FI
Hi, on my new FS200-P I messed up the correct setting of camshaft gear to crankshaft screw gear. My intention was to give a few drops of oil to the camshaft before initial break-in run. During pulling the camshaft case lid with its tiny bearing, the camshaft little pit popped up and lost its setting on the crank gear. The small mark on the camshaft gear is clearly visible. How to set it back in correct order? thanks Dominik

RE: MAGIC 60
The Roegamodel kit of the Magic 60 was officially licensed by Hanno Prettner. In my eyes the quality is absolutely ok for that aera. Hanno once told that the fuselage was little bit soft against twisting during knife edge, compared to the wood built up fuselages. But besides that it was a good kit of his ultimate "all the bells and whistles design pattern plane". That´s the reason I like it for.

RE: MK Aurora 60 build - engine installation question
Thanks for the flowers...! I have just seen so many really nice planes and RC compartments here on RCU that I tries to do similar on the Aurora (for the first time). About the Hanno issue: I am expecting the conrod and crank back soon. Has anyone heard of some kind of mechanical treatment to the OD of the cylinder liner? Goal is to reduce the ID at TDC area by minimal amount to acheive good compression again on a worn out liner/piston set. Thsi may be a hydraulic forge or?? Mainly this treatment seems to be done on the smaller RC car and buggy engines (.21 and .28 displacement).

RE: Red-Devil/Blue-Angel build
Ooops, ok. I hope you are doing better and this will be an episode only! Yes, so often things go different compared as to what they have been planned to go like. Of course please keep us posted about the Arrow, such a nice plane. Metterhausen Flash Light? Quite a modern design... but I have to admit in my barn is a Metterhausen Quasar since about 1/2 year. Very nice flying pattern ship, Webra 61 Racing Long stroke powered. Fast, and almost impossible to get her down without the trailing edge brake flaps. I was able to maiden the Aurora a week ago, but I am afraid I do have a little sick 61RF Hanno Special. Engine overheats and now it won´t run anymore at lower speeds than about half throttle. I have taken it apart and do not yet know what is wrong, besides the conrod lower eye has little too much play for my taste. I will have to give it one more try after correcting that. Liner and Piston look ok.

RE: MK Aurora 60 build - engine installation question
Thanks for your input about the Hanno redhead. Currently it turns a 12x10, the original OS header was cut by only 1/2", reason was to get the red pipe into its place under the wing of the Aurora. It just fits now. I am aiming at around 10.500rpm on ground. I think I just have to be little patient, run it as rich as it tolerates and do some gentle traffic pattern flights. The plane flies beautifully. My std. RF61-P turns 12.200 with a 12x8 on ground.

RE: MK Aurora 60 build - engine installation question
Aurora made its 2 first flights last weekend. Plane flies well with no real issues, cg still to much front, and some left aileron trim was needed. I am going to balance the plane also laterally during next days, and put the cg little bit more backwards. The Hanno Special was still too new to feel comfortable, it overheated and I had to come down earlier then desired. Will need to test that next time, how much can I open the needle valve and still have enough power.

RE: Club Enya
Will if rev up if you advance the throttle more slowly? Transition mixture sounds litttle bit too lean for me as long as you run it on glow driver, but you you did correct in my humble opinion to turn the air bleed screw in at the beginning of your video. At about 30-40sec, I think this is just the way a nice older Enya four stroke should go. ...its just not a fuel injected YS 120, where you can expect throttle response like a Kawasaki. Is this the original needle valve? As told, give the 10% nitro a try. Enya #3 plug should be correct. 13x4 prop sound good for me, too, but the 13x6 would be the right one for those older .60 size four strokes.

RE: Club Enya
My VT-240 also does not have a very strong compression, but it runs very nicely, so just don´t worry and get it running. About the exhaust music - if possible and no one is around to complain, I would let the pipes open and just enjoy that sweet sound. :)

RE: Scoop! Hangar 9 Phoenix 7...ARF!!!
Finally, a photo, thanks. Now I understand the T-fitting to return the excess fuel. Now we need some more details, what pipe and and what pipe length from glow plug to baffle are you using? What kind of fuel? What bore ID size has that nice old Perry carb? Is that a filter thingy on the carb opening? 14.200 on 11x8 APC is really good.

RE: MK Aurora 60 build - engine installation question
Design Update! Just pure white and some red was not enough. I took a classic pattern plane which today is very popular as a replica for example and added some blue stripes. You guess that particular plane and color scheme.... The Aurora still wasn´t put into air for maiden flight, many things got in between. Now I am waiting for the right weather and the right time to get it done!

RE: Scoop! Hangar 9 Phoenix 7...ARF!!!
On my fast planes 2 hinges per control flap do get the good old toothpick treatment. I once lost one plane due to an aileron coming loose during a full throttle, low pass...

RE: My new ARROW finished (with pictures)
Landing gear: Can you post some photos? There may be a little bit too long piston travel for the retract position. Do the gear mounting brackets have those "notches" where the traveling bolt of the rotating gear rests in up and down position? You may need to open that notch a little, also you should of course to doublecheck if the brackets are not to tight. Next iusse is to check if the wooden mounting beams for the gear are straight and parallel.

Very nice plane, good job! 3-Blade prop, will this take some speed away? Do you need it for prop clearance? What prop size are you using for the VF, 10-8? Gert, there seems to be a RC aerobatic flight meeting June 23-24 just noth of Frankfurt, where guys are planning to have a separate section for the old school pattern plane pilots. RC-1 Meeting in Wehrheim. I plan to go there for one day

RE: OS FT-300
Collecting the blown-out oil from the crankcase breather nipple in a small tank inside the cowling eliminates 98% of the oil mess. Its really worth doing that. My Votec 322 plane is clean inside the cowling and under the fuselage after 3 flights. Engine runs really great on 77% methanol, 15% synth oil and 8% nitro. I would not bother the hassle for gas conversion.
