RE: Adobe Premiere Pro or Sony Vegas 6.0!!!!!!
Vegas 6+DVD for sure. I've been editing with various versions of this software since 2000 when I picked up a copy of Sonic Foundry Video Factory. Vegas is hands down the easiest most powerful application out there for basic video editing. You don't need to be a full time professional editor to use many of the features. I'm an occasional user of Vegas and it's easy to work with. Plus I can't remember the last time the program crashed. Scott

RE: Wattage Viking
The Wattage Viking flies quite well on the stock brushed motors using a 3 cell 1320mah Thunder Power pack, Great Planes 50amp controller (only brushed controller I had left). The stock brushed motors will work for quite some time on a 3s lipo. I found the stock hardware easy to setup and reliable when installed carefully. I found with this model be gentle on the elevator (use the recommended control throws) as it has a tendancy to snap stall pretty harshly and very abruptly if slowed down. I also kept a little power on while landing. Good luck-Scott

Ooops. thought you were looking for just an A-10 not a beginners jet. See here http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=310953 It's a twin 90mm fan A-10 with a wingspan of about 62". How about a www.littlebirdz.com Stealth-E nano jet. or a foamtasticmodels.com Yak-23 foamie Scott

RE: We will offer 10 free ones 90mm Electric Ducted Fan Unit tests samples.
Hi! It's been awhile since I've worked on the fan test unit. I've been off and on sick for the past few weeks. I'll get to the fan unit. 1) I like the look of the 7 blade fan. However, it touches the fan housing in a couple of places. 2) I'm having trouble getting the collect to tighten up on the motor shaft. I can get it pretty tight but I can still put the collet off the motor. When it gets pretty tight I hold the fan and use a wrench to tighten the nut. The problem I'm having is the collet is spinning inside the fan and not tightening up. I took the fan out of the fan housing and tightened the collet onto the motor shaft by using a pair of pliers to hold the base of the collet from spinning while tightening the nut. The first test I used a 2 cell 8000mah ThunderPower battery and a Mega 22/20/2 motor. I was just holding the motor so I did not want to use a large battery pack. The 5 blade fan drew 39 amps at full throttle. The 7 blade fan drew 43 amps and produced a little over 270 Watts of power at full throttle. Until I can get the collet to tighten up on the motor shaft with the fan mounted in the houseing I do not want to test more powerful motors and batteries. My one suggestion for the fan houseing is to include some sort of mounting bracket. I do not know how I am going to set up a simple test stand for this setup. I do not want to spend a lot of time building a mounting bracket for the fan houseing. See ya-Scott

Li-Poly battery suggestion
I'm using a 2100mah 7.4volt 2 cell Thunder Power pack from www.espritmodels.com in my GWS A-10. I did upgrade my A-10 to the 6 blade fans. With the 2100mah Thunder Power pack I have flown for about 23-25mins and still had plenty of power left. I just got bored flying for so long. Good luck

GWS A-10 Flight times.
I flew my A-10 this morning for 12min plus a few seconds on a 1100mah 7cell HECELL battery pack. The wind was no more than maybe 5mph. I don't know what the weight is on this model. I did not use the battery clip, nose wheel equipment or nose wheel pushrod. I only used a little bit of the GWS glue in a couple of places. Mostly I used Probond glue (the expanding/foaming glue activated by water). It is hand painted with water based paint I got at a craft store.

A-10 flight
I've had a great time with the A-10 so far. Flys well, I've used a GWS 730mah 8.4v NiMh and a 8.4v 1100mah HECELL pack. With the HECELL pack I had to cut a bit of foam to move the pack back to get the cg into the ball park. I've found the plane needs a very very slight tail heavy cg. I decieded to forget the plastic battery hatch. I am using several pieces of masking tape to hold the battery in place. Flight times with both battery packs is good up in the 6+ minute range. I've not run the packs dry yet. I'm going to use a 7.2v 350mah pack tomarrow. Hopefully, there will be enough power to play around with. I do have a question for everyone. How do you go about changing out the motors when they wear out? Thanks-Scott

Hey Gary- Also, I've not really started my Morris Hobbies Balsa Nova so...the next best thing. An E3Nova. A little bit of hacksaw action and it's the closest thing I'll get to a Balsa Nova for awhile. I hope your not offended by the plane bashing. :-) See ya-Scott Bauman

Brushless combo on the E3D
Hey Gary-I tried to call you the other night. I just got a Mega 22/20/2 brushless motor, Hacker Masters 40-3P controller, 5:1 Mega gearbox swinging a 16x10 prop using a 10 cell 3000mAh pack. It's not a cheap setup but it has some mean thrust. Should probably be using a 18x?. But the landing gear are to short! I've bent mine as far down as possible for prop/ground clearance. I need a longer set of landing gear. This setup pretty much went straight up after a couple of feet rollout. I kept a bit of up elevator as I started rolling out so it did not catch a wheel and nose over. Well as I increased throttle with the up elevator it just went up and almost over. I eased off the elevator and it just kept climbing. Unfortunately, the gear box got chunked within a couple of minutes. Not sure what happened. I think maybe one of the planetary gears hung up on the internal spacer washer and this gouged the gearbox back plate. I'm not sure what happened. It sounded like the plane was running on nitro-very loud. I landed pretty darn quick. I'm going to clean up, re-lube and hopefully reuse the gear box. In the few minutes of flight I had the plane did not self destruct or so I'll keep flying it! See ya-Scott

Anyone got an "E3D"?
I've built 2 of the E3D's. Easy to build. Flys great. I'm a total beginner with batteries and electrics in general. I'm actually a very beginner airplane pilot also. I only soloed with my Senior Telemaster a few times before flying the E3D. I had no problems flying the E3D right from the start. I do have several years of experience flying helicopters so I'm not a total newbie to RC. I'm just a newbie to airplanes. My first E3D only lasted one week. It was cut in half by a giant Extra 300 pulling into a vertical take off. I don't know who did it. The canopy survived and I'm using it on the new one. Kinda like paying tribute to a fallen friend. My second E3D is going strong after several weeks of flying. I can't get mine to hover. I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong with either the batteries or motor. Scott

Building the Balsa Nova 40 tips tricks etc
I'm going to start building a Morris Hobbies Balsa Nova 40 very soon. I would like to get some feed back as to hints and tricks to make the build go better. I'm looking to make it a 3D capable airplane. I've read that the control surfaces should be made larger and the landing gear area should be beefed up. Is there anything in the instructions or plans that's not obvious? Or something that is easily missed. Will an OS 60FX fit in the cowl easily? Thanks for looking and any help! Scott

glitching solved-sort of
Yes, the capaciters and diode was installed correctly. What is a good size for larger ones? But all my glitching problems were solved today. A Extra type plane took off and came up directly through the center of my plane. I didn't even see it coming. Problem solved!

Radio noise
I think I tracked the problem down to the JR R610 reciever/C50 speed control. The reciever is about 10" to 11" away from the speed control. I posed a new topic as "R610 reciever problems/success" in the radio section. Thanks for the reply-Scott

R610 recievers
Hi-Thanks for the reply. I was using the R610 with a Great Planes C50 speed controller. I hooked up my R600 with a Dean's Whip antenna that I originally used in a helicopter. The R600/whip antenna seems to work ok. The electric plane is large so space is not a problem. It's just the weight. What is a "quiet" speed control that can handle 10 sub "C" cells at 3000mAh? Thanks-Scott

JR R610 recievers-problems/success
I have been trying to use a JR R610 reciever in an electric plane with no success. The range check is only a few feet before glitching begins. The reciever is about 10" from the speed control and about 1" from the main battery. Antenna stretched out and taped to the outside bottom of the fusaglage. Using a Great Planes C50speed control w/kyosho endoplasma motor and 10cell 3000mAh NiMh batteries. I have 2 of these recievers and have the same problem with both of them. Both recievers have been used successfully in other planes and have never been involved in crashes. When I hook my JR R600 reciever into the same electric plane there is no problems. Scott

Radio glitching problems
I did check the battery. I think it is the JR micro R610 receivers I was using. Both of my R610 receivers had glitching problems when hooked into the electric plane. I took a R600 receiver out of one of my sailplanes and hooked into the electric plane. I can get about 75' of range with the antenna collapsed. I have been using one of the R610 recievers in a Senior Telemaster 96" wingspan plane with no problems or range check problems. Has anyone had problems with the JR R610 recievers?? thanks for the replies.-Scott

Radio glitching problems
I just finished my first hardcore electric plane last weekend. A Gary Wright E3D. I'm running the recommended Kyosho Endoplasma w/Great Planes C50 speed control and a 10cell 3000mAh pack. For radio I have a JR610 micro reciever, 2 Hitec HS81 mini servos on the tail feathers and two Expert Electronics mini servos on the ailerons. Last weekend was the first flight Flew fine(ok range check). 2nd flight slight glitches, 3rd flight scary glitches, 4th flight almost lost it from glitches. After the 4th or 5th flight I changed brushes. Now I can only get a few feet from the model with the transmitter antenna down before it is crazy with glitches without the motor running. I tried my other R610 micro reciever similar problem. I then used a spare battery pack to power the system and leave the motor and speed control out of the loop. Similar glitching problems. Switched to the other R610 reciever w/spare RX battery pack. Same range problems. Next I was frustrated and hooked up another spare regular JR R600 receiver. Better range check for a few minutes then all glitches start back. Could this be servo related? I've tried pulling each servo out one at a time. Tried adding them back in one at a time. I've switched recievers around so many times my head is spinning. I even put in different servos etc etc. It keeps glitching!!!!!!! I"m all glitched out!!!!!\ P.S. with my Helicopter I have no problems i.e. 150'+ range check with positive control WHAT"S WRONG!!!! VERY FRUSTRATED IN FLORIDA Scott I must be doing something very obvious wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mini ducted fans
The airframe I'm thinking of should not weigh more than 1/2-3/4 pound. I plan on using two fan units. It's sounding like 2 GWS fans would provide enough thrust. Please keep the replies coming. I'll figure out wing area etc as I get time. thanks Scott

Fast flying DG600
Yes I've already found out that this plane needs to fly very fast. The first flight we tried to fly to slowly. Finally a few clicks of down elevator and things smoothed out quite a bit. I am just shocked by how easy it is to tip stall. Once I get the wingtips tweaked and turbulators back on the tips it should get a little easier to handle. Thanks for the tips. Scott

Tip Stalling with a Multiplex DG600 3meter
Hi-I'm having quite a time with tip stalls on my DG600 Multiplex plane. It is an old model (5+years old) that I picked up at a good price. I had to do a bit of fixing up but not much. The first flight we almost lost it due to tip stalls. 3rd flight pancake into the ground due to a low level tip stall. 4th flight a little better but not much. I moved the CG way forward on the wing and this seemed to help. I did find the wingtips to have about 1 degree of wash in on one tip and about 1 degree of washout on the other tip. That is about the only major problem I can see with the wing or plane in general. lastly there is supposed to be zigzag turbulator sticker strips on the wing tips. These are missing. Could the lack of the zigzag turbulator strips be the cause of all of my tips stall problems????? Does anyone know what the correct incidence angle for the stabilizer and wing for this model? I want to make sure the incidence is correct. As far as I can tell the incidence is built in at the factory with no adjustment needed. Thanks for any help. Scott
