beginner heli pilot needs help
Hey Guys Im hoping some of you more experienced pilots can give me some help. When I watch more experienced pilots fly a hover to landing they make a light touchdown. When I try to do the same, the touchdown is more like an uncontrolled arrival. What are the proper control inputs to make in the transition between hover and landing? I know aerodynamically the heli is in a vortex immediately before touchdown. This is my problem spot. Do I increase throttle, decrease throttle, or is the setup done before the transition to touchdown section of the flight is arrived at? Im flying an MCX 2 and a Blade 120 SR. I did say I was a beginner. Thanks

RE: Clockwise, or Counterclockwise?
TIA hit it on the head when he said opposite of the direction of the thermal! So the question is which direction does a thermal turn. Being an area of low pressure, a thermal will rotate in a counterclockwise direction. Check out pictures of hurricanes from space. The memory aide here is; The counter is low and the clock is high. An area of high pressure rotates in a clockwise direction. Since we want to fly in the opposite direction of the thermal, we want to fly in a clockwise direction. The reason for this is that you want to fly slow in lift to gain the most altitude from it, and fast in sink to keep from losing altitude.

RE: New Radian
Hi Tom I had the same reaction to the charger the first time I charged the battery on the radian. (This charger cant be working right, its taking way to long!) As it turned out the charger was working fine, it just took a long time to charge the battery the first time. Good Flying

FYI Radian replacement parts availability
After recovering my radian from a tree an incursion with a tree I contacted the company for some replacement parts. At this time II was told that It would be AT LEAST the end of April before I should expect to recieve them. The lady also mentioned that they had more backorders than they had parts coming in, and it could very easily be well into May or beyond before I'd receive my order.

Hollow core door vs. Solid panel door for building table
I've heard some debate lately on wether a hollow core door or a solid panel door is better to use for a building table assuming 3M77 adhesive and ceiling tile panels are used. The debate is whether a solid panel door will resist warping better than a hollow core door, which is less expensive. I decided to do this poll to see what the concensus is. Thanks Rich

RE: Laminar flow vs. turbulant flow and visocity
Okay, so without a windtunnel to show where the sepereation point is on an airfoil at a given airspeed, are there any guidelines to follow in locating turbulators?

Laminar flow vs. turbulant flow and visocity
Could someone please explain to me how turbulant flow over an airfoil has a higher visocity (it tends to stay attached to the airfoil better) than laminar flow over the same airfoil. Just when I think that laminar flow is more desirable than turbulent flow due to the fact that laminar flow produces less drag, I find out that laminar flow tends to seperate from the airfoil more easily than turbulent flow. Of course, flow seperation equals loss of lift. [sm=confused.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif][sm=confused.gif]

Staying with one manufacturer for entire electrical system
I've beeen told by my local hobby shop that since I purchase an Airtronics RD8000 transmitter, I need to stay with Airtronics recievers and servos for my installations. I would like to save some money from time to time by using other brand components. Are they being honest with me? Have I unwittingly gotten myself locked into using higher priced components by my transmitter purchase?

RE: Tow Plane Suggestions
There is a tow plane that strongly resembles a crop duster, I believe from Germany. This plane is about as ugly as they come (as least to me), but I understand is an excellant tow vehicle. I can't remember the name, so will check my magazine collection and get back to you. It's a high wing, and usually seen in yellow, possibly with a radial.

setting polyhedral angles correctly
[sm=confused.gif] I'm new to this sport/ hobby and am still working on my first kit, a G.P. Spirit. I have all the wing panels built, and am ready to join them. My problem is how do I accurately sand all the ends of the panels so that I end up with everything at the proper lenght and angle? I have an idea that I think will work, and would deeply appreciate any feed back. Here,s the idea
