RE: Having a brain fart...
If I set the idle to optimum (the low setting) at the end of the flight, when the engine is hot - after the engine cools off, it will not run when restarted. I have to raise the idle again about 4-5 clicks

Having a brain fart...
I have a 50cc engine the runs and transitions smoothly. the problem - when cold (not that cold/70-80 degrees) the idle needs to be substantially higher then after a flight. when I land I can crank the idle way down without killing the engine and still have it transition well. Am I correct, I got the low speed needle set to high?

RE: A Couple of Basic EDF Jet Questions
I just received my two TP 2100mah Pro Lite's last night for my HL F/A18RTF. Flew them this morning and was pleasantly surprised. I think I have slightly more vertical power and I do have about 3x the flight time I had before. the extra 1.5oz seems to have had no negative effect. I don't know why they don't just put this kind of battery in it from the get-go and charge accordingly, save a lot of hassle.

RE: A Couple of Basic EDF Jet Questions
No, your answer was very helpful. I've been flying giant gassers and nitro profiles for years. Just got the HL F/A18 RTF on a whim after seening a foamy jet fly -loved it. Now while the HL F/A18 is fun, it is also underpowered and has very short flight times. I would like to pep her up. I have two TP 3S 2100mah batteries coming to go with the stock ESC, motor and fan. I think this 2100mah battery is generally considered about as big as you can go. Depending on how it flies with this battery I may want to change the ESC and motor if it will increase performance (vertical ability mostly), the stock setup has no vertical, if you know what I mean.

A Couple of Basic EDF Jet Questions
I'm new to this EDF Jet stuff. so here are my questions. Is it correct that battery size primarily impacts flight time and not power? If you are stuck with a 64mm fan and you want to increase power you must get a stronger motor with the appropriate ESC to match? Thanks

A few video captures and one bad landing, but no damage again except for a $25 prop! the wind was blowing a bit and it was cloudy, so not as nice as they could have been.

RE: Shenzhen Aircraft from China?
They do appear to be very simular. Peak does not have the 50cc Ultimate I was interested in. In any event they are on may holiday until the 5th. Have to check on the big lot sale. the people that contacted me were from an outlet hobby shop in Hong Kong. I got the impression single purchase could be handled. Have to do some more checking.

Has anyone seen any of the Shenzhen ARF's offered by this company in China. They have a very nice site and couple of 50cc biplanes I would love to have; but I don't know about buying direct from a company in China or what there quality is. I quess there is a certain amount of protection because you can use Paypal. thanks http://cyclonetoy.en.alibaba.com/productgrouplist-200299699/Gasoline_Airplane_ARF.html

RE: Cox Pitts M-12 Assembly
Well I know that the Cox Pitts is out of production; but since I started this thread I thought I would post an update. I've been flying the M-12 all this time and pretty much loving it. I had some huge engine adjustment problems early on that resulted in my getting very good at deadstick biplane landings. I must have had about a dozen and never really damaged the M-12 at all. It really is well built. I'm only an average pilot and have always thought the M-12 was a little squirrly in the air when doing 3D, doesn't recover from mistakes real fast; then it's not a profile either. Anyway, when I had built mine I had used a Slimline Pitts smoke muffler. Last week I suddenly said - hey why not. Boy does this thing look sweet flying with smoke and it was very easy to do. I'll try to get some pics this weekend. I mounted a Slimline Skywriter I had in the right side of fuselage (my battery is on left side). I mounted a 16oz Bennet plastic bottle smoke tank on top of a 20oz gas tank in the stock location. With all that fuel, smoke fluid, pump and plumbing, the DA50 pulls her around just fine using a 23x8 prop. I have really enjoyed this plane and it's ability to take a pretty good beating without falling apart.

Looking for Suggestions
I have been flying giant scale gassers for years. The other day I saw a guy flying one of HL's little electric A-4's and thought it was really neat. I know nothing about them even though I have a had a couple of foamies some time back; but it seems that Hobby Lobby, E-Flite, EasyTiger etc all have basically the same thing. I'm looking for some suggestions for a really neat (high wow factor), zippy RTF or close to it jet with everything included. I'd like to keep this package at or below $350. So give me some suggestions guys.

80" H9 P-51 vs H9 80" P-47
I would be interested in comments from anyone who has owned or is familiar with both airplanes. Is either plane superior in design and or flight characteristics. Secondly what engines have you seen and how did they fly the plane. Lastly, I would really prefer to put a gas engine in whichever plane I choose. I don't think a 26cc gas engine will fly these planes with any kind of authority. If you have seen one with a bigger gas engine, how did it fit and was any tail weight required. Thanks

RE: Cox Pitts M-12 Assembly
I just used the Dubro stuff because I had it and like it's quality. You have to provide your own control horns and I don't like wire pushrods in this big a plane. This is an exceptionally well designed and built plane. One of the best I've ever seen. I forgot to mention one thing Cox told me to try the CG at 7" to start with. For first flights I would suggest 6.5-7"'s

RE: Cox Pitts M-12 Assembly
The Cox Pitts IS NOT a bad flyer. The plane takes off and lands very easy flies as good upside down as right side up, tracks like it is on a wire. I consider coupling in a biplane as part of the design you have to learn to live with. I also don't think it is so bad it can't be controlled. I just haven't had a chance to play around wth it yet. Our weather has been so cold, cloudy and windy, plus holiday I just basically put everything on hold and haven't tried to fly #2 yet. Maybe in next few days. The only thing that gave me any problem was the ground handling and takeoff roll with those worthless soft tailwheel springs. After I went to the hardware store and brought some short stronger springs - problem solved. Somewhere earlier in this thread is the pic of how I 'fixed' the tailwheel (see pic in post #32).

That really pisses me off[>:] I paid $400 for my replacement just two-three weeks ago and they didn't say anything about waiting a week for a lower price. The plane has been done for a week just sitting waiting for the weather to change. It's been windy and rainy for days.

open up the "post reply" buttom at the bottom or top of the page; NOT the quick reply block that is always at the bottom. At the bottom of the "post reply" box is a link you click to "upload pictures". You click on that and just and just go to where your pictures are on your computer and click on ok or upload, I forget which.

RE: Cox Pitts M-12 Assembly
I have begun assembly of Pitts #2. After checking everything out it appears this plane is just as well made as the 1st. Everything lined up, in the right place and fit properly. Same need to iron the entire plane. Because I had done this plane just two weeks ago don't even have to look at the manual. I changed the assembly a little bit. 1. After lining eveything up and checking fit I in one session I glued both wings together, glued the elevator in, glued the rudder on top of the elevator, and glued the lower outer cabane mounting post in. the whole gluing process took about an hour and a half. 2. tomarrow I'm gluing in all control surfaces, reinforcing engine box, mounting landing gear and tailwheel, mounting all control surface servos and completing canopy. 3. Day three will be engine mounting, cowl cutting, control horn and linkage mounting, pull-pull install, inner cabane mounting. may need one more day to wrap it up.

RE: Cox Pitts M-12 Assembly
NO, I didn't have them on it because I want to fly it, not spend all my time assemblying it. The wires are visual only. By the way, if you want to put them on the kit and fixtures are very nice and as easy as any I've seen to put on. Little brackets and predrilled holes included. PS: my replacement came today so maybe in a week some more pics/video.

RE: ULTRA HOTS , Advise please
Dave, being from the 70's has nothing to do with it. I fly giant scale, profiles, warbirds - I've had that plane for years and it is always just plane FUN to fly. I have never understood why it was discontinued or why someone hasn't successfully ARF'd it yet. the lines are classic and beautiful. when you fly a tight square box vertical or horizontal close to the ground or take her up as high as you can see and put her into a high speed dive aileron rolling faster than you can count or come down the field inverted low at speed you will know what a 'head rush' really is [:-]. Can't wait to see a big one.

RE: ULTRA HOTS , Advise please
My super hots rolls faster than you can count at speed, and still rolls plenty fast at slower speeds; but do realize an 81" wing is much bigger, but I think you will not be disappointed. PM me when you want to sell it.

RE: ULTRA HOTS , Advise please
Dave, I have a Super Hots. it is one of the all time great (read that fun [:-]) planes to fly. It's very weird - the plane will fly incredibly fast if you want it too and it will also fly incredibly slow. On low rates and fast it is very easy to control and as fast as anything at our field - on high rates and slower it is quit an aerobat. My plane has an OS91 on her and Carbon fiber pattern plane landing gear. The wingspan is 53.5", the ailerons are 1.5" wide. and the wing is 2.5" thick at it's thickest point. PS: drool at the thought of an 81" Hots with a big motor.[:D]

RE: Cox Pitts M-12 Assembly
Wow, you remember my TF P-51 [X(] that is one of the never-ending threads on RCU. sold it some time ago. I do have a 1/3 scale BUSA Sopwith Pup with a G62 and a BUSA 1/4 scale Fokker DVII with a Quadra 52. They look cool; but the Pitts flew great. I did order another before they run out. Since I have all the proper pushrods, servos, rudder linkages etc, didn't have much choice [:)]. the engine went back to DA today, should only be a couple hundred at most. It's the spinner and prop that hurt the most, other than the plane.
