I hate anything military, and the people who worship military hardware. Jet pilots almost always fall in that category.

RE: Slow CA
I fly 3D and I crash a lot. The only place I use anything but CA is on spruce and hardwood if present. The models survive very well and NEVER break at a balsa/balsa CA joint. The small sticks used for framing the profiles I build break, and never near a joint where thin CA has strengthened the balsa. If the CA joints were a weak point, I would be lookinmg for another adhesive since I repair crash damage often.

RE: Slow CA
For a spruce spar, nothing beats good old PVA wood glue. CA doesn't bond to spruce very well. If it's a balsa spar, CA works very well, the glue joint will not fail.
As you look at the attached pictures you can easily figure that the binding areas can become 5 times the area of the parts in contact..The added weight of the glue is negligeable but the strength of the joint is considerably increased.
Negligeable for an LT40 maybe, but it's a big deal on a super light performance 3d model or equivalent, especially the small ones where every gram saved counts.

Larry, The rich guys want you to stop shopping there in a misguided attempt to force them to improve their service, and thus raise their prices. They will then buy at the LHs because the prices are the same, and couldn't care less that they took the choice away from you. Then there are the geniuses that think cutomer service is free, they want the prices and the service and just can't wrap their minds around the reality that customer service costs money.

Whine whine whine. Don't like it, you have a choice to shop elsewhere. You gotta be living under a rock to not know the risks of buying from China. Don't like the risk, don't buy from them. Such a simple concept, so many fail to comprehend.

RE: squealing BL motor when snapping throttle
This is also caused when the motor is loaded with a prop that is too big (can usually be corrected with ESC timing adjustment). You can't adjust the ESC timing so all you can do is use a smaller or a lighter propeller, like the GWS plastic props which weigh about half the APC E props.

RE: Another battery question.
Be careful using a LIPO in that radio, the LIPO puts out a higher voltage than the stock 8 cell battery and it can fry your radio. Diodes or a regulator are required to drop the voltage. I will also recommend eneloops over a LIPO, similar capacity and much safer, no need to remove the battery to charge. You can make an 8 cell eneloop pack by soldering the cells together with short pieces of wire (20AWG or bigger). Use a high powered iron and some solder flux to make the solder connection quickly. Too much heat on the battery will damage the cell.

RE: squealing BL motor when snapping throttle
This is usually cause by an ESC timing issue. Your ESC may have different programmable timings. If so you should increase the timing and try again. Which ESC are you using?

The coverite 21st century iron is fantastic. It's very fast to heat up and the electronic control is very precise compared to the bimetallic strip standard irons.

RE: Some fundamental 2.4 GHz questions
I have been using my JR XP9303 for over 4 years, with a Spektrum Module, and other than the Firmware upgrade to my AR9000, early on, to improve the reboot time, none of my receivers have needed additional return to the factory and all have been operating exceptionally well. My early DX8 had to go back for one issue and has been rock solid since then.
Thanks for confirming my statement

RE: Some fundamental 2.4 GHz questions
I don't know if this is really a fair statement, since it is based on my observations from reading various rc site threads. It seems that spektrum and hitec have the most problems with new equipment, requiring firmware flashes to fix software bugs. It would be wise to research any model radio you wish to purchase.

It depends on your ESC, or your BEC if using a separate unit. You should have a switching BEC capable of 3 amps or more.

The best way to find out everything about a model is to search for threads about that model on RC sites. The manufacturer will not advertise underpowered, structurally weak, or flies horribly on the box.

RE: Raptor 50 Hitec servos?
The Hitec 5625's get sloppy quickly because of the metal gears. The hitec carbonite servos work very well in the raptor.
Someone could make a pretty good profit if they came up with a compact little remote device where the hot shot could be placed farther from the prop like the simple remote needle valve.
That is a standard item on most helis, a remote glow adapter. You can easily make one with an old glow plug a finishing nail and some 5 minute epoxy.

RE: WARNING BE CAREFUL
ORIGINAL: CGRetired With regard to removal of the plug ignitor, I was taught to do so from behind, and that's what I do. I also teach students to do this. The only thing I do from the front of the engine is start the thing. All else is done from behind. Unfortunately, the injury I experienced was with an electric, and that was because I put the prop on and did the initial motor start process (new plane process) without even thinking the transmitter throttle setting was reversed. Five stiches. Live and learn. That will NOT happen again to me. CGr.
I did that too with a 350 watt motor with an apc 13x4 prop. It was my lucky day since the motor rotation was backwards, so the plane took off away from me. The cardboard box that the plane was resting on was converted to confetti. No stitches for me that time, but a new pair of underwear was required.
