RE: CLUB 40 MUFFLERS?
ORIGINAL: Tbatt Rick Grim and I discussed what to do about the muffler outlet and decided that a visual inspection works best. If the outlet has been drilled out it will be easily detected due to the surface finish being different. I think that the stock mufflers are bead blasted to give them a satin finish. That would be very hard to duplicate on the inside of the out pipe. My 2 cents.... Tim
One would only have to bead blast the drilled portion. Next !![:o]

RE: 2012 RCPRO Club 40 National Championship Race
ORIGINAL: skull1971 A question on the starts has come up, and I remember us, (Texas CD's) talking about this. On the start, do you have to go AROUND pylon 1, or just break the plain.
Most every race it is stated that you have to go around the pylon on the first turn, but in reality it seldom happens. Unless each pilot is below the top of the pylon, the cut judge can only see that you broke the plane. ( no pun intended). A second, vectored judge would be needed to verify that the pilot went around. I stay low on the start and go around the pylon. It makes me lose a little bit, but I hate cuts. [:(]

RE: Club 40 Nats TRASH TALK!!
Thinking of ways to make the race more intresting, maybe in the A main you have to make all right hand turns. And no Skully you can't fly it inverted, becaus then you would be turning left!!! Putting the polls on a trolly and keep them moving in and out say from 300 feet to 500 feet. Putting all the planes in a pool and you have to draw a number to see what plane you are flying. Flying it on the 3 poll short course. Greg would probably like this, but most of us would be lost. Any more sugestions? Lets hear them, maybe we will pick the best one and try it.
All kidding aside, I would be up for a "figure 8" style race where the planes would intersect at the center.[8D] I was practicing this yesterday and the right hand turns take a little bit of practice. Bring your worst plane and lets make it happen.[:D]

Thanks , I'll try that. I was flying my Ziroli DR1 and the engine stopped. I couldn't get any spark from the plug, and it has a spring starter. I checked for continuity across the coil and it was infinite. It won't hurt to recheck everything again.

RE: Club 40 Pylon Race at WAAM in Tuscaloosa Aug 4th, 2012
ORIGINAL: Tbatt Just to be clear about our starts. We allow a MAXIMUM of three minutes before the 30 second countdown starts. Typically we start the countdown clock in less than a minute. Here is how it goes: We ask if everyone is ready. We start the 3 minute timer. Everyone starts their engines, tweeks the needles and take off in an relaxed manner. When each pilot is ready they tell their caller and he raises his hand. When we see four hands up we start the 30 second clock. Typical time from start of the three minute timer to race start is around 90 seconds. The MAXIMUM time would be 3:30. This rarely ever happens. Blown glow plugs and flooded engines are the problems most of the time. As Ken said, we will have a ready line setup so the next set of planes, pilots and callers will be in place. I would like to have two sets of ready lines so that we do not have any delays. I'm thinking a Ready Line and a Staging line.. If we can keep the racing going smoothly we should be able to keep with the ten lap heats and five rounds at least. We need to plan for crash cleanup (not that that would ever happen), pylon repair, and landing retrieval. All of these things delay the racing.
are you allowed to land, tweak the needle and go back up if it is done before time runs out?
