RE: Futaba GY520 Gyro help
Thanks for that info guys I'm planning on getting one of the servos Andy listed there is just that I don’t have the money to get it in this moment but I sure will get it, I just want to test the heli with one of the servos I currently have, and with test I mean breaking in the engine, do the first hovers and so just be sure the controls are properly set up, I am not going to really fly the heli I’m not planning on even doing forward flight until I have a really good servo such as the 9254 I just want to test it. The radio I’m currently using is a Futaba 2.4GHz 12FG so I think there won’t be any problems there Thanks again for the help guys XD can´t wait to finish the heli

Futaba GY520 Gyro help
Hi guys I'm still new to helis and i still have a lot to learn, now i am in the process of building a 60 sized heli, and recently a friend of my dad gave me a Futaba GY520 Gyro as a gift, it came with the CIU-2 USB adapter but it didn’t come with a servo, so I read the manual of this gyro and there recommends some servos (ultra fast ones to be precise) but I was wondering if I can use any other servo at least to test the heli meanwhile I get one of those ultra fast ruder servos that the manual recommends. Currently I have a lot of S3151 Digital servos that are not in use right now and I was thinking of using one of them, also I have three HS-635HB servos from hitech that I am not using, can I use any of those with this gyro? If so how do I program the gyro? as far as I understand the gyro can be programmed for 3 servo settings. the 1520uS mode and the 760uS mode for digital servos and the third one for standard servos but what setting should I use with what servo of those I have ?(that of course if I can use any of those servos with this gyro) Thanks for any info Sergio

OMG XD thanks that info Mike I think i'll need to read a bit more in those pages you gave me i guess there will be more questions in the future when i start to build the system of the joystick, hope to get help from you here again or from the other guys. I'll start to design the plane for the project and also to buy the stuff needed. Thanks again Mike Sergio

School Project help
Hi guys I'm new to this forum and I'm not quite sure if this is the right one for this question, me and a couple of friends are about to enter in a contest of science, we are thinking of making an rc plane that we will be modifying every year until it becomes completely able to fly by itself but we want to start with something simple. I am an accomplished rc pilot, no worries there as i have build and flown giant scale planes and I'll be designing an stable platform for the project, but what we are looking to do is to control the plane from a computer with a gamers joystick. Of course i'll have a standard airplane transmitter on my hands to recover the plane in case the joystick system fails. So my exact question is. How can we accomplish this? how can i make mi laptop to control the airplane with a gamers joystick? i have 3 months to design the airplane, build it, test it and of course to create the system for the laptop and the joystick Hope someone can help me Sergio

Hi guys I'm about to get this plane, and I'm not sure what engine i should get. I have the chance to choose between a DA 50, an Evolution 50 or the 58, obviously I want the 58 cuz it has more power but will it fit?, is it too heavy for the reactor?, should I go with the DA 50 or the Evo 50 if so, what engine is the better one? Thanks in advance for any info Sergio

Futaba GY611 Gyro w/S9256 Servo
Hi guys I’m in the process of finishing a 60 sized heli and want to get good stuff (servos, radio, etc) so I can use the equipment in other helis if I crash this one or if I get another one, I already have most of the servos, radio, engine, etc. but I’m wondering something about this gyro. I’m planning to use a 6v battery because of the servos I’m using for the controls, but in the specs of the S9256 servo that comes with the Futaba GY611 Gyro, says that it only uses 4.8v. The problem is that the servos I’ll use for the controls won’t have enough torque at that voltage, does the S9256 servo going to be damaged if I use 6v? Thanks for any info. Sergio

HBK II & Futaba 7CHP
Hi guys, <span style="font-size:9.0pt;line-height:115%;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black;mso-ansi-language:EN-US"> I'm not really experienced with helis, I recently started with a HBK II but i got a used 60 sized heli that I am in the process of completing the stuff needed to fly it (engine, servos, gyro, etc.) but i have the radio already and I want to practice the programming and all that stuff with the HBK II first before i start with the big one, so can someone help me here please? i would like to see some programming already done with this radio in this heli so I can guide myself with them, if possible program the radio to be able to do some loops, rolls or inverted hovers. I have done some programming but I'm not sure if its well done, the swashplate looks centered and the controls of elevator, aileron and pitch work fine, but i don't know how to proceed with the gyro, and I'm having problems with the motor, when i move the throttle stick to the top it just stops and when i return to 3/4 it goes again, i checked the throttle curve and its fine but I also noticed that when the radio is on idle up 2 (the one I suppose is used for 3D or any aerobatic) the motor works like if it was on normal mode (off when the stick is on the bottom and it accelerates when i move the stick forward) and when I go to idle up 1 or normal mode the motor just throttles to the max and i only control the pitch, i think that the throttle channel needs to be reversed and then change the polarity of the motor on the ESC to make it run properly but I'm not sure if this will fix the problem. Any help will be appreciated Sergio

RE: H-9 Showtime .50 engine?
Thanks for those advices guys but i have enough experience putting bigger engines on other planes with little to no problems flying them, I know it is going to be weight added but the main problem with the saito 82 is that i will need to use 30% of nitro to get the power i want and I just don´t dont want to spend so much on gas that´s why i am looking at a bigger engine on this plane, I am going with a saito 91 or 100 as the 115 will really be to much, a guy on my field is already running one and it will be just to much for the airframe I will buy it anyway but for a bigger plane not this one, I am at sea level but it gets to hot somethimes and I need to switch between props in summer and winter going from a low pitch in winter to a higher pitch in summer (14X4 to 14X6 on my O.S. 70 Surpass just to give an example) that solves the problem but i want more power I want bether performance I know what a saito 82 can do i've seen it and I am sure it wont give me what i am looking to get with 15% of nitro even with 30% i don't think that I will be satisfied at all Forgot to mention something i have never experienced a landing gear issue or a broken firewall for to much power or an overweight airframe Good luck to you with your pullouts down on the deck Hey metallicajunkie what servos are you using? do you think i will be better with a saito 100?

I was thinking exact the same thing XD thanks freeair now I just hope my dad lets me spend the $310 for the 115 because I really want that engine for my plane but i was afraid it was to big but I think the plane can handle the power (will reinforce it just for safety)

RE: H-9 Showtime .50 engine?
Thanks for the reply Frank I know that a will need a new mount I will be using a great planes adjustable mount thats not really a big problem is not the first time i put a bigger than the recomended size engine in a plane(I build planes for a friend) but thanks for the advice. I see that you are at a high altitud but I am nearly at sea level (100 or 150 meters) so i don't think i need as much power as you to 3D but I want to have a better performance than my actual 3D bird buecause it is to heavy (2 small hits and 1 hard crash) so i don't have the performance I like to go DOD so i want more power in the Showtime to have enough pull out to feel comfortable when i am doing low hovers, hariers, etc. Do you guys think I am going to big with a Saito 115? or should I stay with a 100?

H-9 Showtime .50 engine?
Hi guys I am about to get a new engine for my showtime (2 or 3 weeks) and i was going for a O.S. 91 Surpass engine but with the new price I just don´t see any reason to get it when i can get a bigger engine for less or the same price and I want to know what Saito engine will be the best for this plane I was thinking in 3 engines the Saito 91, 100 and the new 115 if my dad let me spend $310 for a new engine (was planing on spending 250) I would really like to have de 115 as it weight a bit less than the O.S. 91 but i don´t know if it is going to be to much engine for the plane Almost forget it, what prop will be the best for each engine on 15% nitro, I have to switch between props on winter and summer because it gets to hot for a low pitched prop here so what props will work for each engine (just to give an example on my O.S. 70 surpass i switch from a 14X4 to a 14X6) Thanks for the replys guys Sergio

HBKII Gyro.
Hi guys I recived this heli as a gift and it's my first one, but i am having a problem with the gyro it did fly two times, but the third one the gyro started to flash constantly but in the way it does when it is "calibrating itself" (like the manual says) it flashes in a slower way and it keeps like this and doesn't givme any control in the servo what is happening and what can i do to solve this? Please help me with this i realy enjoyed the first to flights and i want to keep flying XD Thanks Sergio

RE: Showtime .50 servos
Thanks for the replay guys In know I am already overpowered XD but thats what i am looking for i recently crashed my UCD 46 with a O.S. 70 Surpass it was enough power the engined pulled out really well my plane even at 6.6 lb ( 3 crashes before the last one XD ) but when i crashed i was very low and couldn't save it, now i am looking to have more power to feel more confortable at low height but if it's going to work with standar servos I will use them but i am still looking at the mini servos because the torque they have and also because of the metal gears , hey NJAIRSTRIKE what servos are you using? and what was your final weight? Thanks again guys Sergio

Showtime .50 servos
Hi guys I am about to build a Showtime .50, I am going to use an O.S. 91 Surpass engine and I was thinking in using mini servos to save some weight but i don't know if i am going to have to much problems mounting the servos as the openings in the plane are for standar size servos has anyone tried to use them?, also i was thinking in the balance i don't want to add any extra wight to the plane so what do you guys think? should i use them?or should I get some good standar servos? RE: UCD 46 vs Funtana 50
I have both planes and both fly great but as mentioned the UCD it´s more stable at hover and the funtans will KE in fact i do KE loops and i have a standar torque servo on it but if this is your first 3D plane take the UCD it will be easier to learn on but if you already have experience with a 3D plane take the funtana 50x because you will be able to do harries (with SFG´s on ) the UCD can do them also but you need to mix flaps with elevators because without this it will winrock a lot Sergio

That profile looks great AeroDave you must have rocketlike pullout at that wieght, i will use the 90 degree adaptor it should fit good inside of the cowl, i hope to have good pullout with that engine in the 100X, i am flying a GP U-CAN-DO with a os surpass 70 and pullout the plane with autority not to slow and not to fast but i would like to have a bit more pullout performance on the 100X

tanks all you for your replies and sorry if i didn`t read them early i wasn`t in home, i will shurely go with the Funtanas i have flown the old .40 version and like it alot because it is agressive with full throws i will wait to much time to complete the plane because i have to wait to have the money for the engine and the rdio equipment but i will shurely post a new threat of the assembly and of curse of the flight performance. Hey Razor your funtanas must be a rocket with that big engine in front, wath prop do you guys think that would be the best for my engine and also i want to know if i will be well with 61 to 70 oz. in ailerons and elevators and 90 to 100 oz. in the ruder? this is my first .90 size pplane and i need some sugestions thanks again for your replies

RE: 3-d today!!
Hi jda3 There you may search mags or books to learn somethin to do 3d but one of the best things you con do is see videos and see how the tail and wing surfaces move to mantain the airplane in a hover, you also need to choose a good engine or electric motor with a large diameter and a low pitch, the engine must be the bigger recomended by the airplane´s mfg.. you should try a U-CAN-DO 3D .46 with a O.S. 50 SX and a 12x4 prop or with a Surpass 70 with a 14x4 prop both engines will give you the performance to do 3D if you will try to do some 3D use also a radio with expos as this make the feel on the sticks more smooth with the high rates on. Try it you will got lots of fun See ya and good luck with your flying.
