RE: big electric boats
ORIGINAL: expresscraft we are looking for as much speed as possible, and I think we are set on the 10s batteries for power,i guess what im after is feedback on more power for less money then the castle option that he is willing to pay for.but if the swordfish 300 amp esc is good, and less money. or the other cheaper motors are good and less money, I certainly want to consider them,at the same time i do not want to make something work or be cutting corners that will jeopardize the the finished build.and i want at least the power that the 2028's will give.
hard to have big power for only a few bucks... the motors I listed above have great power and less than $100 each that can run on 10s and use the Sordfish 240HV esc

RE: Do I need a seperate harness if I have 5.5mm connectors??
ORIGINAL: tc4 drft Ive got the Castle 200HV with 5.5mm connectors, male on the positive lead and female on the negitive. If my lipo packs have the female on the positive and male on the negitive, could I hook one positive and negitive lead on the lipos together, then one lipo positive into the esc and the other lipo negitive into the ESC, thus eliminating the need for a harness? Are you confused yet?
yes, it sounds like you got it

RE: big electric boats
ORIGINAL: expresscraft Well, sorry I did not get back to this thread and respond,Now i have a 60'' MTI to build, I'm kicking tires right now. I do have a commitment from the customer,as he has made a deposit on the build, I'm thinking 2/ castle ice 200hv and 2/ 2028 motors powered with 10s each with 457 L&R props, we are looking for as much speed as possible but he is not dropping 600-700 or more on motors and 900 on esc's, so this is a far as we will spend, my question is, for less money the swordfish 300 amp esc and there are some bigger motors,we are kind of set on 10s as well.my concern is more in the performance of the 2028, I have gathered it's a great combo, I am worried its not enough to push this boat to a real fast speed, would like a 700-800kv motor.fed back would be great, thanks
Tom, you could try these motors and less than $100 each, on a Sordfish 240HV esc http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__24853__Turnigy_AquaStar_T20_3T_730KV_1280KV_Water_Cooled_Brushless_Motor.html I have one to run in my DF39 on 6s you can run a Y or D wind with them.. two different kvs from these motors for different applications picture next to my PMono motor (4092 Leopard) [;)] this motor is a 56x102
ORIGINAL: hobby_man
ORIGINAL: Brad Mc Hey, I have a question about my lipos for my Revolt 30. I have 2 of the <span style=''mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA''>2 of the GrimRacer 7.4V, 5000 mAh batteries. Attached is a picture of my charger while charging and a picture of my meter immediately after charging. How is it possible for each cell to be over 3.7V?? Why does my charger show 8.16V while charging?? I removed the battereies from the charger as soon as they were complete. My meter showed both batteries charged up to 99%. Please help me understand, thanks!!
each cell of any lipo battery shows a voltage of 4.2 when charged each cell should be at 4.2 so the cells are balanced/charged, if you get one cell at 4.2/4.19 or so and the other cell only gets to 4.0/4.01 the cells are off you should follow the 80% rule, do not discharge any more than 80% of the batteries capacity 5000mah x .8 = 4000 you should see about 4000 mah being charged back into the battery at the 80% discharge your cells will be about 3.6 volts each if you over discharge the battery, say you take 5200 mah out of the battery your cells could drop below 3.0 volts and then the charger will give you a low voltage error and it will not charge them capacity
At 3.6v your packs have less than 10%
ORIGINAL: tc4 drft Just had a few convos with Chris at fineline, he answered all my questions and has been cool as can be to deal with. We went over the specifics of each part, and heres what I ordered. Motor: Nemisis Gold 7000 series(900kv), ESC: Castle Hydra Ice2 HV, FDM 5'' rail mounts w ESC mount, and a x450 prop....already wired and hosed...ready to drop in, all at a price I couldnt pass up. Now I need to find me a couple packs of 4s and 5s lipos, a charger and Im ready to go. Ill start posting pics of the mods to the hull to waterproof it after Labor Day weekend. Im still looking at different options or ideas to mount the lipos. At first I wanted one in each sponson, then SRT chimed in saying placing them in the center on the tunnel was better....but I still dont know why. Dont you want the COG low in a cat? If you were building a 58'' FE cat w/singler inrunner, are your lipos going in the sponsons or on the center tunnel?!?
I'll do my best to find the actual reasons and why you want the lipos up on the tunnel not in the sponsons not just opinions but real race facts from those who race cats [;)] I think it can actually create a weird hook in the turns what size motor are you going with and what cell count with your lipos? as for me I'de never buy from Chris as he has ripped of a couple of my friends [:-] but that's just me... and well a few or I should say, several others [:D] I'm going to building me a 50-55" mono using the 540kv motor and a gas size prop on 10s real soon with the 80amp esc
ORIGINAL: stuball56 Well, yes. Running for 7 minutes straight will straight up ruin most setups in a FEÂ boat setup to run on the edge. I f running 7 straight minutes is your goal, then you need to prop down, alot.
stock this boat is not on the edge with a 42x55 prop this boat should be able to run 7 minutes without any issues, so something else is up.

RE: RE:
ORIGINAL: tc4 drft Well, even if it does work, Im just gonna bite the bullet and do it right the first time. For ESC's, im between the Castle Hydra Ice 200HV and the HIFEI Swoardfish Pro 240. The HEFEI is $90 cheaper...but theres not a whole lot on the web about it...so still trying to confirm if thats a good choice. Motor will be either the Leo 5698 (835kv), or the TP Power 5692 (780kv)...also another $90 cheaper than the Leo. FineDesign will be getting my order on the 5'' rail mount shortly. Chris at FDM suggests a 50mm prop, regardless of power options. Im thinking thats a tad small. Dude on youtube was runnin a X462, gps at 69mph. But the prop will be last on the list of purchases. Still in planning stages now. Will run it as gas setup for the last time at the end of Aug. Then the teardown, ordering and build begins. Anyone else care to chime in on ESC or motor options that I may have overlooked? Again, plan to run 8-12s. And also...how should I properly mount the LiPos. I want one in each sponson. Im not putting them in front of the motor on the tunnel. COG will be too high. Thinking a couple fiberglass plates epoxied in with, velcro holding them batts in place with straps going around them? I want simple, affordable and effective.
this is funny! not sure what you mean by "even if it does work, I'm just gonna bite the bullet and do it right the first time" ?? the less cash option listed is doing it right in a different flavor second if you are set on doing it right, the electronics you listed are really not the bite the bullet and get it done right the first time... wana run 10/12s with a NEU 2230 http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=neu-2230&cat=117 Schulze ESC http://www.schulze-elektronik-gmbh.de/index_uk.htm http://www.schulze-elektronik-gmbh.de/index_uk.htm and about your CG battery placement thing... [:-] some if not all cats run better with the lipos place between the rails... ask me how and I will tell you that I believe all the top racers run their lipos between the rails.... and that's where my 8s2p setup runs in my 80/90 Sprincat [;)] running them in the tunnel causes handling issues on some if not all cats lower is not always better, that's just logic that does not always make better speeds.... wana bite a bullet.. don't make it a 22 with the "right the first time attitude" make it a 500! [;)] besides, with this attitude it sounds like your mind was made up from the start and not anyone is going to tell you a different way to build what your already set on.... [:-]
