RE: First post!! Traxxas rustler help!
ORIGINAL: bigal13 Thank you and haha I've already figured out to not run full speed the whole run. It melted my connectors together lol
Nice! There is absolutely nothing wrong with good old-fashioned trial-and-error. Unless you'd rather whine over semantics.... I recently geared a surface vehicle for speed and did so by adding another tooth, on the pinion, until the solder joints melted. I, then dropped the pinion by one-tooth, resoldered the connectors, and have been using that particular gear-ratio, ever since. Manufacturers and sponsored-drivers use the same type of "destructive testing", with obviously more sophisticated equipment. Another thing I have learned, through "real world" beta-testing, is that different tire diameters will change your overall gear-ratio. If you install smaller street tires, you may be able to get away with a higher transmission gear-ratio, through trial-and-error, of course. Different tires do not change the transmission's gear-ratio, but do place a different load on the motor, the drivetrain, and the electronics. Enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend! And, Happy Flying!

RE: First post!! Traxxas rustler help!
ORIGINAL: bigal13 I'm so confused on what to get. Just want it to be able to hit a solid 75 or so. Will the element motor hit those speeds or should I get a mamba Max pro or something like that
I just did a Yewtoob search for "Traxxas Rustler mph" and it looks like the Mamba, with a speed-tuned gear-ratio and 3S will do a 100mph. Mo' money ....

RE: First post!! Traxxas rustler help!
ORIGINAL: bigal13 ....does anyone know how to change the shocks ride height.
Adding spacers to your springs actually adjusts your suspension "preset" or "preload". This increases the initial amount of force needed to compress your shocks. It does not stiffen your suspension travel, throughout the stroke. You should see a difference in the amount of chassis sag, with the weight of the battery, when adjusting your preset. Racing chassis use downstops, and sometimes upstops to limit ride-height; but, most sport chassis don't incorporate this feature. It is possible to use spacers between your shock pistons and the shock-body interior to limit the actual ride-height. First, try moving your shocks to another mounting hole, on the shock tower or a-arms, and see what works best for you. Also, try a shorter, stiffer spring with similiar dimensions, and thinner shock oil or larger piston holes. Traxxas touring car springs or buggy springs may work. Or, another brand, entirely. Tires can change your chassis ride height, too. Are you running monster truck tires or street tires?
ORIGINAL: bigal13 I want to be able to run 3s Lipo
The Duratrax "Element" will handle 3S, and Tower recommends it specifically for the Rustler, etc. Mo' money will get you more Kv. If you really want something super-crazy go for a helicopter motor!

This might save you some dough and still give you the CC reliability: http://www.duratrax.com/motors/dtxc3122.html Available at Tower: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?I=LXAZUP&P=8 If you order everything from Tower, search for "Tower Hobbies Coupon Codes", here and on RCG. 300 bux will get you everything you need, with the exception of multiple battery packs. Good luck....

RE: Cost of glow fuel
AvGas is what amateur drag racers call 100LL. Try running Jet A in your gasser and see what happens. This type of amateur speculation is precisely why the American Real Estate Market tanked! Leave the cost of fuel to the professionals, be good little consumers, and pay out-the-butt like you're supposed to.... Good day.

RE: Buy American R/C engines
ORIGINAL: NM2K
ORIGINAL: Old Jaybird Can anyone direct me to an American made electric motor? That's why I originally came to this forum. I am rebuilding my old American made Kraft radios to the new technology and want to go electric also. I don't have anything against our free world neighbors who support us as we support them. A level balance of trade can be good between nations that stick with each other through thick and thin. You know the ones I mean. But, not one cent goes to the other crowd. Or for that matter, the companies that send our dollars to them and lie about where their stuff comes from. I love this hobby but I love my country more and will give up the hobby before I help close or keep closed American factories and/or put American citizens and businesses out of work. I can still build gliders that don't need motors if push comes to shove. This is much deeper than my personal pleasure. Hang in there citizens, no matter where you are from.
Well why are you wasting time preaching to the choir? Why don't you get on the telephone this week and call your congressmen and senators and let them know of your opinions? That's the only place where it will do any good. And yes, the rest of us, including me, should do the same thing. What few engines we buy these days (at least for me) won't make a ripple in the sales stats. I'm a veteran (USAF), so no one wants to insinuate that I'm not a patriot and that I don't care about my fellow Americans. Not that you did... Ed Cregger
Aveox and AstroFlight are American-made motors, and the original developers of brushless motors for RC applications. Yet, the United States Patent and Trademark Office has limited jurisdiction in a globally competitive marketplace. The "Law of Comparative Advantage" is the textbook theory - used to define your economic insinuations. The fact that the USA, no longer, enjoys Absolute Advantage in the global marketplace is still dawning on your fellow Americans.

RE: Oldie but goodie:) Bringing it back, GWS Formosa
Thanks for the flying video and landing footage. I have researched this kit for my first pattern plane, and plan to build the Formosa specifically for park fying, with no landing gear. Have you flown the Formosa at a sanctioned airfiield? Have you flown it with landing gear?

RE: Yet another
Please don't confuse a "trainer" type aircraft with a teach-yourself-to-fly aircraft... As suggested earlier: the Multiplex Easy Star is an excellent teach-yourself-to-fly aircraft. I've attached a picture of a retired model, for viewing. You can also learn with the Wild Hawk (Jr. Hawk) from Nitro Models or Harbor Freight: http://www.harborfreight.com/general-merch/toys/easy-to-fly-wild-hawk-rc-airplane-94774.html Or, fly a GWS Slow Stick, which is sometimes available with the electronics included: http://www.gwsus.com/english/product/airfly/slow%20stick.htm Most HobbyZone products, including the forementioned SuperCub, are also decent for learning: http://www.hobbyzonesports.com/Products/Start.aspx The Parkzone Slo V is a good option, too: http://www.parkzone.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=PKZ1300 A powered glider will handle more wind than a slow flyer; but, please understand that any rudder-only / 3-channel airplane has difficulty landing with a cross wind. Good Luck, Scott
