RE: Really a differnce?
i say if you're goin to go cheap....then go real cheap lol. i started out with a 1/10th red cat tornado for about $150. probably spent another $80-$100 on upgrades and fixing broken parts, but it was a great experience for my FIRST nitro. i had never ran a nitro car before muchless tried to tune 1. i agree the car was utter crap but at the end of the day i gained a lot of knowledge on nitro RCs and spent less than $300. now im ready to move onto bigger and better things! hyper 9, D8 or ZO1 are in my sights!!

RE: the hyper st PRO thread!
does any1 know why just about every online site is out of stock for the hyper ST pro? have they stopped production to make way for a new model? i'll feel like a real azz if thats the case. i've been collecting parts for the hyper, but havent bought 1 yet. was waiting until later in the year. i'll much rather buy a brand new 1 than a second hand 1 from ebay or what not. guess we'll see what happens

RE: O'Donnell ZO1-b Team
o ok. im just really interested to hear what this buggy has to offer. i'll be looking to get 1 as a christmas to myself end of this year. its either this, the hyper 9 or D8. a few of my buddys have the D8 and love it, but i dont like to jump on the bandwagon. the xray and mugen are options too, but that is a bit more than i would like to pay for if i can get pretty much the same results. the D8 dominated in 08 and its prob the cheapest buggy out there.

RE: POST YOUR WORKS HERE!
Thanks for the info! Guess i'll skip the compressed cans, perhaps start out with aerosol cans for now. might invest in a compressor and air brush when i start going through bodies.

RE: POST YOUR WORKS HERE!
i feel somewhat silly askin this but....do all airbrush kits require you to have a compressor as well? or is there a kit that you can get where all you need is a can of compressed air or something?

RE: the hyper st PRO thread!
for those guys here who have built the pro kits.....what measurement of tools do they require? metric or imperial? also....a good recommendation on an engine (not for racing). looking for something with good bottom end and mid range power. budget is $180-$220. also what pipe to go with it...i see a nice JP-2 on ebay for a good price. Should i look for an engine that has an overall good powerband and then get a tuned pipe to enhance the top or bottom end?

RE: OFNA Hyper ST or CEN Matrix TR Arena??
jammin X2 RTR is $509.99 on amain...lookin at more for shipping...thats prob the only RTR i would get on the market. the hyper st pro kit is decent tho...i wouldn't go for the hyper RTR

RE: Beginner Truggy
from what i hear the jammin X2 is more of a light weight racer truggy and the hyper st is a durable but heavy truggy (not as competitive as a racer) the quality of both is as good as top name brands

RE: Beginner Truggy
if ur brand new to the hobby why not get sumtin cheap and run it till the wheels fall off...then upgrade to something of quality when you know what you're doing. better off trashing a cheap car than an expensive one. others here may not agree with me on this but thats the route i took and i learned a lot about tuning and repairs without spendin too much $$$. maybe even look at the 1/10th models. (although they are less durable)

RE: best new truggy
i noticed the jammin X2 kit has been reduced and is only slightly more than the hyper st pro kit....its clear the X2 is better for racing...but which would be better for the causal truggy enthusiast? is the price cut due to jammin coming out with a new model for 2009? the hyper st pro would need to make a new model as well, wasnt the current one released in 2007 or so?

any of you guys who are in the UK....what is the best site to order truggies/parts/radios etc from? I believe amain is located in the US...just wondering how much the shipping would kill me if I was to order from there rather that a UK or european supplier. Or if anyone knows of a good hobby shop in London let me know. thanks!

RE: the hyper st PRO thread!
hello folks! im looking to buy a 1/8 truggy sometime this year. right now i own a crappy little exceed forza (which was a good intro for me into nitro...i have learned a lot!) but now its time to move onto bigger and better things. i have been looking at all the choices and im leaning towards the hyper st pro, losi 8t, Thunder Tiger ST-1 Pro(all the carbon is very tempting) and a couple others. the main complaint i hear with the hyper st pro is that they are heavy...which isnt a problem for me since i wont be racing it...just a back yard basher. you can say im more of a 'bling' type of hobbyist so the carbon shock towers that i have seen in this forum will be a must! (at least they serve a purpose)...it wont be a shelf queen by any means. I will be doing quite a bit of on road activity as well so i've been lookin for different wheel/type combinations. (a money pit for us 'bling' enthusiasts lol).....SO do just about any 17mm hex wheels fit the hyper? for example: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNHW8&P=SM http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXTWX7&P=0 also been looking at some of the 17mm hex bead lock wheels from axial. will those fit?

RE: Took the exceed to the track!
the thing about buying a cheap car when ur a noob to the hobby is that u learn how RCs work and how to fix things. i've spent more in buying parts and upgrades than i paid for the car. which is pretty much expected since the ccar was cheap and just about ANYTHING these days u modify and upgrade will exceed the cost of the car. (maybe thats why the company is called exceed? lol) so im glad i bought a cheap car to start me out, im glad i didn't go out n buy a traxxas or something cuz i still would have had to spend money on upgrades...at least with this car it wasn't as much lol. cheap fun is the best fun! lol

u can always just splice the wires directly from the batteries. only thing is that it will always be on, just unplug it to turn the power off.

RE: Why are most kits so expensive?
ORIGINAL: K_B Many parts on the "pro" kits are CNC-machined, many out of solid blocks (billet) of aluminum. Machine time ain't cheap, therefore the parts are expensive to produce. RTRs generally skimp on some of the expensive stuff, such as the 8ight. The RTR uses a thinner stamped aluminum chassis and shock towers whereas the Roller uses thicker CNC'd stuff. They also substitute plastic for alloy such as the shock caps. X-ray stuff is expensive because they produce EVERYTHING in house. Other companies (including Losi most likely) outsource the manufacturing to Asia to cut costs.
thats what it comes down to. you are payin for a better product. only way for them to make a cheap kit is to use the same parts as the rtrs and u just assemble it urself (now wats the point of that?) if u want a cheaper kit get a RTR take it apart n put it back together lol.
