RE: Firestorm O.S. Engine Swap
Ah thanks to all the nice advice I got mine in a while ago, just recently tuned it and yes, it is nuts. Wheelies with a pull of the throttle at almost any speed, crazy fast and only running at 220 degrees right now [8D] Very happy with the results, although i have to admit i ate a clutch during break in [:D]

RE: HPI Firestorm with OS .18 CVRX
Is the engine block the same?! not sure if the turbo would fit... it would definitely be interesting but IMO this cv-rx i just put in rips and i haven't even broken it in yet [:D] How would it be less hassle?

RE: Firestorm O.S. Engine Swap
ah thanks nate but i got it! it was all those dang washers that came off the g3.0... they wouldn't let the bearings spin so i just put three before the screw head and it works perfectly and i was able to complete mounting the motor tonight :-) just gotta get a z-connector extension for the new receiver and i will be ready for break in... oh yeah and should i get a new exhaust gasket probably? the paper one was junk after taking the header off...

RE: Firestorm O.S. Engine Swap
WELL i was wandering what happened here... I cut my shaft 3/16" off and then removed the friction plate that came with the motor, placed the flywheel collet over the square key, put flywheel on the collet, put the clutch shoes on, screwed in the pilot shaft, put a washer then bearing then clutch bell on the pilot shaft and screwed that on with the bearing and 4 washers. My problem is that the clutch bell tightens up against the flywheel... isn't it supposed to spin freely?? Did I put it on in the wrong order?? Thanks!

RE: HPI Firestorm with OS .18 CVRX
awesome i took your advice and went the associated route with the pilot shaft.... do you just cut original shaft back a little and then screw on the pilot shaft? thanks for all the answers!!![8D]

RE: HPI Firestorm with OS .18 CVRX
Ah i see now! thanks for the picture! so it just needs to be raised? I am going to just order the motor with the associated mounts.... but i am still wandering if the pilot would slip onto the short shaft without cutting anything.....hmmm..... doesn't the short shaft come with everything the long shaft does?

RE: HPI Firestorm with OS .18 CVRX
what does pilot even denote? I am all ready to order one I just need to figure out what would be the best route, the short shaft with pilot shaft or cut the long shaft on the other one combined with a pilot.... either way I will have to drill new holes for motor mounts?? unless yakfish coughs up the pics of how to modify the oem mounts [:D]

Firestorm G3.0 = fecal matter
Well I think the stock motor on the firestorm (Nitro star 3.0cc .18) is the most finicky motor to fine tune. Anyone have any tips?! Any similar stories?! I raced last weekend and the settings on the carb worked perfectly (idle screw all the way in, throttle trim all tweaked out, hardly any brakes) and so i pulled it apart to clean and put together beautifully then decided after looking in the manual to fix my tweaked setting, good idea right?!?!?!?! I mean it works perfectly rigged up let's put it how it should be just to see if I can make it break.... Well it didn't break but the dang thing is so finicky on the idle tuning.... I can't get the brakes and idle to sync and the trim to set around neutral.... Somebody save me or I might grind up the entire truck (not the body cause that just looks sick nasty) and eat it with breakfast....
