RE: RC Guys Super Decathlon coming
If you go to post #1476 you will see the extension that I had put on my DLE30. It is Teflon hose. I just cut it to length, ruffed up the inside of one end with a file and secured it with a hose clamp. It has never moved since I installed it.

RE: RC Guys Super Decathlon coming
I have the elevator servos in the tail and it balanced perfectly w/o any weight added.

RE: RC Guys Super Decathlon coming
I have used the pants on mine since the first flight. I fly off pavement however. If flying off grass they may get gunked up. A 30cc is just fine for this bird, mines got a DLE30. The tires are 4" I believe. The ones that came w/ mine are pretty hard but, I never used them. I put 4" inflatable Dubro's on it.

As far as strut attachment at the field, I did the same as described in post #1339. Horizon didnt ever have them in stock at the time so, I ordered them through Grainger.

RE: choosing a servo! i need help
From my personal exp. and from fellow club members who have used the karbonites, I would steer clear of them. Yes, individuals have used them for years but, on my Great Planes SS I had used them for the wings for about 8 flights and then on my ground check prior to taking off they both failed. I also saw a brand new plane loose both of it's karbonite gear elevator servos on the maiden flight. It was in level flight by the way. I have used 645 mg's without problems on all of my 1/4 scale surfaces w/o issues. I wish they still made the 525mg's. They had been perfect for my .60 size warbirds.

Sailr, I dont know if you have an oreilly auto parts close to you but, around here they have the plugs for less than 3 dollars. Or the hobby store for 8 + dollars.[8|]

RE: ECOMRC TigerMoth 1/4 Scale
pettit, I know that you arent promoting the H9 version. I just have to comment on how crazy the prices are getting. It does look a lot like the the H9 and according to the spec's they are basically identical (other than color). Oh, I did forget the $350 price difference.[8|]. I have never owned a plane sold by TBM but damn, how many parts of the H9 version are plated in gold? For 50 bucks more I can buy two of the TBM vs. H9. HMMMMMMMM? I thought the mark up on jewelry and furniture for our wives was bad. I guess, I better just stick to my other hobby of guns and reloading it's looking a lot cheaper.

RE: H9 1/4 Scale Tiger Moth
It does seem to be an alright looking plane but, for that kind of money its going to have to get a whole lot more so. For almost half of the H9 version you could get the plane from troybuilt. They have almost the exact same specs.

I know World Models, used to or maybe still does produce several cubs( clipped wing, J3 in 1/3, 1/4 qnd 1/5 scale). I believe they had a red and white version.

RE: Seagull Spacewalker II 120 Arf
Making the place for the gas tank is exactly what I did on mine. I just glued in a piece of plywood vertically at the front of interior fuselage area. On the end I put a 1" brass hinge that was then attached to another piece of ply just wide enough for the tank to sit on. I made it long enough that the back end barely went over the servo tray. I just lifted it to get easy access to the wing bolts. I sold the plane to a club member but, he has it at the club often. If I remember I will take some pics of it next time I see it out there.

RE: Pilot RC 28% Decathlon 107
I have only looked it over once when the member first got it but, the build quality look very good. I believe he has a DA120 in it. With the flaps down on a flyby, it is amazing how slow it gets. And of course with the coals poured to it, it will do just about anything an extra or yak can (just a lot slower)[;)]

RE: Pilot RC 28% Decathlon 107
If it is anyhting like the bigger version that pilot makes, I suspect it will be pretty fun. A member of the club has the 40% and it just floats around the sky with ease. I have the RC guys 98" decathlon w/ a DLE30 in it and it is a very fun plane to fly. It weighs in right at 15 lbs with only one servo per surface. The 30 pulls it around with ease on a 19x8. I have had members even suggest to enter it in a IMAC basic. It will do the whole routine with out much trouble( if the wind is calm)[:@]

RE: NEW DLE30!
I just bought it two months ago so, about 30 minutes after my previous post I handed a box containing the ignition to the postal clerk for shipping. Waite and see[&o] I still have my super decathlon running the same set-up this plane had so, at least I have a plane to play with until it comes back.

[/quote] I just performed this(w/ 2 different batteries), and it looks like the module is toast. No voltage on the wires of the test extension or spark when the wires are shorted.

RE: NEW DLE30!
I dont believe it would be heating that would cause the iginition to loose all spark. It is inside the fuselage.

RE: NEW DLE30!
Ok, so I added the hardwood spacers and it reduced the needed weight to 8 ounces. Yesterday, I ran the engine for the first time. Once I got fuel to the carb it started and ran like a champ. I put 32 ounces of fuel through it on the ground, got the needles set for good transition, idle and full throttle. I had to get going or else I would have maidened it. Anyway, today I got to the field, fueled up, fired the engine up, range check and took to the sky. It was running great at about half throttle, just cruising around and trimming the plane then the engine started sounding like it had got rich all of the sudden(popping/burble) but, still running. I began to set the plane up for landing, turning on final and the engine quit almost as if I had hit the kill switch. Landed and started running through all the possibilties. The ignition has zero spark. 4.8 battery( 5.3v), took the kill switch out of circuit and nothing. What else to check?

RE: NEW DLE30!
If I was to use a weighted washer on the shaft along with the washer and nut for a single bolt hub, would it affect performance a great deal? I need to add about a pound of balast to get the required CG on my new build, this is with lead put right behind the firewall. I was thinking if I could get a few more ounces out at the end of the shaft I wouldnt need so much in the fuselage. I had thought of moving the engine out with some additional spacers. It is on the standoffs that come with it, would half inch spacers behind the standoffs change the CG that much? Thanks.

RE: Kangke Waco Biplane
Here's a couple of quick pics. I havent prettied up all the wires yet as you can see but, I still cant believe it would take that much weight to balance. I took the gear off right before taking these and the cowl only weighs a few ounces. I'm going to check the total weight on a scale that has a calibrated accuracy of +/- .01 mg so, I should know pretty darn accurately what it all comes out to be.

RE: Kangke Waco Biplane
I did add heavy duty connections to the tail but made CF pushrods. I also replaced the tail braces with lighter cables. I knew the DLE w/ muffler is light but dang! The ignition, kill switch, ign. battery, ign. switch and throttle servo are all in the far forward compartment. The rx battery and fuel tank are on under the M struts. I might have enough room to build a flat lead tray in the forward compartment ( This is where I had 2 wrenches and 6oz of lead to get the balance). [8|] Have you flown yours yet?

RE: Kangke Waco Biplane
Well, finally just about done with this build. I havent really been rushing to get it done since it has been 100+ degrees for about 2 months straight here. Just have to mount the cowl and add the gear stiffeners. Just roughly checking the CG at the top wing joiner strap(right at 4" behind the leading edge) It looks like I may have to add about a pound of lead to get it to balance.I have everything as far forward as possible also. The elevator servos are in the tail, the rudder servo is in the middle and everything else but the reciever is either under the M struts or forward.

RE: Seagull 1.20 PT-19
BlackPhantomDragon, This does look like a fun plane to have for warbird events, if I dont feel like messing with retracts and all the other gremlins that appear when I take a fighter out to fly. I noticed in the picture of the main gear that rust appears to be built up on them right out of the box. Is this correct? Thanks.

RE: NEW DLE30!
I have had to get creative with the servo placement on the plane I'm building and was wondering how close could I mount the throttle servo to the ignition? I have seen a few pics of people putting the ignition and servo on the firewall for other various planes but not sure if it was real smart. Thanks.

RE: DX7 + AR7000 Lost Binding Issue
Yes, the servo's are still working as long as the main rx is solid and not blinking like the satellite. I am using a 6v hydramax and swapped it with a fully charged 4.8 as well as a new switch right out of the box and still get the same results, all wiring is new as well.

RE: ESM products?
flycatch, You mentioned that they may buckle in the sun after awhile. Is the fiberglass really that flimsy? I was kind of interested in a couple of those new civilian a/c. I would hate to see what the temp's here in the Tucson area would do to one if this is the case. Most of us at the field at least cover our windows and such while in the pits but, I've had it get hot enough to still warp them.

RE: DX7 + AR7000 Lost Binding Issue
Thanks to all for the inputs. I have kickstands for my TX's so, they are never layed on there backs. I tried again tonight and everything went well the first time I was in the garage/hanger for about 15 min's. After dinner and the little ones homework I was at it again and it started dropping the bind( satellite start blinking and few moments later the main did the same). I contacted Horizon but, really dont expext much since they are the (old fashion rx's [;)]).

RE: DX7 + AR7000 Lost Binding Issue
Both are laying flat and are not moving at all. I checked my other planes and they all work as normal. Sometimes both lights will stay solid for the entire duration I have them on (checking throws and such for up to 10 min's). Then other times they wont bind at all.

RE: DX7 + AR7000 Lost Binding Issue
I know this an old thread but, this is exactly what is happening to mine on the work bench while setting up my new plane. I'm curious to the fix as well. I have changed out batteries and the switch. It is usually the satellite that just starts blinking after it has been a solid light but, the main has done it a few times as well. Any thoughts?
