RE: RedWing MX2 Build
No i didn't do anything extra. There are multiple things that could have avoided this but I was expecting it to be a bit stronger. Mu last quarter scale had the metal l blocks that went up much further and supported the section that broke on mine, I think that might be a good improvement. It will be a fairly easy fix, not pretty though since I don't have the tools to make nice new cuts.

RE: RedWing MX2 Build
I feel like the problem is there is no support in the back. I have no doubt it could take a hard hit if the plane dropped down directly on the gear but any resistance pulling the wheels/gear backwards would rip the gear every time. There is only really a few sringers and a very thin piece of wood providing any strength to the back of the lg plate. The landing gear is in perfect shape itself. Strangely enough I no glue on the interlocking tabs between the landing gear plate and the forward structure of the plane. Looks like the factory missed a spot Either way, you live and you learn. I'll get it fixed up eventually, I am just a little bit discouraged right now.

RE: RedWing MX2 Build
Long grass + soggy areas + weakish landing plate area equals a crappy maiden flight. I am a little dissapointed with the strength of this plane. I have heard the landing gear area was weak but dang, it didn't even put up a fight. It folded underneath the plane instantly. I don't even know how to go about fixing it and I am too broke to buy a new fuse. Horrible damn day

Gonna try to maiden her today. Weather is calm and the suns out (still cold at 45 degrees). Everything is charged up and ready to go, will be leaving in half an hour or so. I'll try to get some video if there is someone there to take it for me.

Haha that was Fahad asking. I have mine set at 5.25 from the LE per Tim's reccomendations. And Fahad, the weather here is just horrible. There hasn't been a decent day rto fly in a month or so. Gotta wait for the weather to work with my schedule.

I wouldn't think so. That little weight difference will not affect anything.

RE: aeroworks planes
I'd have to put peakmodel on the stay away list, they seem to have little to no customer service. Goldwing/Redwing make good stuff as well ( I am flying a 73 inch redwing mx2 now at 9.5 pounds). About CARF, I would never buy one. They are nice looking, but they too get kind of heavy and they don't take rough landings well. I have seen one break in half on a imple rough landing and that is a 1000 dollar fix.

RE: aeroworks planes
I would give aeroworks the "best built" award. they are extremely strong but suffer in the weight category (but they still fly good). I am in no way telling you not to get an aw plane, they make great stuff, I just prefer lighter planes. A few other brands that make quality and lighter planes are pilot r/c, eg aircraft (distributed through aztech aeromodels and chief and a few others), extreme flight, etc.

RE: aeroworks planes
Bahaha, true. I guess I don't see the need for the extra 'strength". The price vs performance factor just isn't there with aeroworks IMO, they might take abuse better but I personally don't abuse my planes

RE: aeroworks planes
They certainly can do every 3d maneuver out there, they will just fly a little bit different, I don't how else to explain it other than that they fly heavy. Aeroworks are still a joy to fly, i just don't buy them because of the price, I don't see why they are more expensive than other manufacturers out there

RE: aeroworks planes
They are regarded as heavy vs a lot of other arf manufacturers out there. This is where the "lumberworks" nick name has come from. If you look inside an aeroworks plane vs a ef or 3dhs or eg you will see where the weight difference comes from, they use a lot more wood. That being said, most people do seem happy with them though. I like to keep my planes as light as possible though, low wing loading = fun!
ORIGINAL: AvatarQ8 zachfeen .. did you test the plane in the air yet ? T.J .. since you been using the hitec aurora 9 radio ... what do you think of it ? here in kuwait know one use it so cant really get a feed back about it .. am between the hitec and the JR9
Nope, gonna be a few weeks still. Gotta wait for weather and a few other things. I also use an Aurora 9. I absolutely love it! I only paid 290 for it which was a complete steal. It is by far the most user intuitive radio I have ever used, extremely easy to program, the menus are a breeze to flip through, all around a good radio (minus the horrible battery life which easily can be fixed) Now I also used an Airtronics RDS8000 that I was impressed with for the price. I paid 200 flat for it and it worked well although it had way less features and was easier to program. 80 more for an 19 though is a no brainer. How much would you have to pay to get an a9 over there?

Ya,the scorpion lock straps are GREAT. Very easy to use and the batteries are extremely secure without velcro underneath. I bought them off ebay. Yup, definitely a bad servo, switched it with the rudder and ailerons are perfect now. Probably going to get a 9150mg for the rudder anyways. here is a final inside shot with batteries and everything wired up.

RE: RedWing MX2 Build
Nice. Back on topic, My mx2 is done short of adjusted the throws and getting the cg right. . I think I may have gotten a dud ds-090m though. It is noticeable slower than every other one on the plane (checked for binding already) . I think I am going to remove it from the aileron and put it on the rudder since the ailerons need to be coordinated. I spun up the motor a bit and it should be a monster, it was blowing around everything pretty good in my room on half throttle.

RE: RedWing MX2 Build
Read what I wrote above. Hacker rates the a150 at 14s, so I'd say its pretty safe to assume it can run safely on 14s. You use a smaller prop with more voltage to get the power, less amp draw, easier on the esc and your batteries. 14s yields around 170 amps for 9000 watts (and hacker also tends to severely underrate their motors). On 10s that thing is underpowered. At maximum amp draw he would be seeing around 7k watts, on a 37 pound plane (which is where this should be) that is not enough. You can easily tell it is underpowered in that video. Now if he is good enough to fly it that underpowered, than more power to him, just leaves him with absolutely no room for error.

RE: RedWing MX2 Build
Correct. More voltage, less amperage. Generally thats the way you want to go, otherwise you would have to use a large prop to get the power and the batteries wouldn't last long. So high voltage, low amperage is the ticket IMO

It can ;) The a150 is rated to 14s. I'd go with 8k 14s for a ballistic plane that would still weigh about the same

RE: RedWing MX2 Build
Interesting. By my calculations that is pretty underpowered. Usually one will do a 12-14s setup on a 150cc plane. You can tell how underpowered it is on pullout. He needs to step up to a jetispin 300 and 14s

Hey Fahad, I am pretty sure that carbon gear are unavailable at this time. And I saw your post in the goldwing thread, something to think about. if you had that same deadstick with carbon gear, one of two things probably would have happened: 1- Gear would have snapped (had it happen before) or 2: It would transmit all the force directly to the lg plate and structure and ripped all that up. I stick with aluminum gear, cheap to replace and absorbs a lot of force
