RE: receiver protection
I know this is a old thread, but I am getting into water flying and have started to water proof my elect equipment with CORROSION X. I just did the ESC and three servos, every thing is working good. I even put one of the servos into a cup of water and ran it for some time. I re-diped it after that to make sure no water remained in it to cause a problem. I am thinking of dipping the RX and elect motor also, it for the foam Polsair. and thought on this? sticks

RE: ESM FW D-9
Be sure voltage is below 6.0v, 4.8v is safer setting = very true as most 6 volt systems charge at up to 8 volts i have always run mine on 4.5 never had a issue with ignition lipos with a regulator are accidents waiting to happen i once plugged a 3 cell in to my 2 cell jet cat p80 end result was a $540 hole in the pocket as smoke came from the on board ECU[:@] as for rpm on the D9 i run the same set up as Ticketec never had a issue with flight mines had over 40 on it so far my tank is slightly higher to help gas to the carby hand starts every time when wet sounds like something is not right in the bearing dept if the motor is that tight kwik PS i watched your flight seemed all right it is a war bird it appeared to me to be ok in speed (in flight) but will say the takeoff was long just my 2 cents worth woops the US dollars has come back up make that my 1 cents worth[:D]

RE: Got my wings, what now?
I agree with RCKen and Speed. There is a lot you can do with a trainer. Most sport pilots I know fly left hand turns better than right hand (easier to push the alieron stick tham to pull it). Keep practicing the basics but start experimenting with the rudder. Slipping on a a landing approach.... I enjoy flying backwards in the wind. I have flown in winds with a slow stick that would keep some people

that sounds good. The guy I got the plane and battery said he does not check them, maybe what you are saying is what he is doing. He is one of our best elect flyer and only flys elect planes , I will have to talke to him more and see what he says. thanks sticks

RE: lipo cycle
that is what I am getting at. a battery that has been run down, will come backup and show a higher voltage and that is the phantom voltage that is not really there. A battery that is charged to peek will come down, I would guess that the voltage it comes down to is close to useable condition voltage.

RE: lipo cycle
I really wonder about the idea of resting voltage readings, I have found that a resting battery will move up in voltage readings. I call it phantom voltage, are lipo's different in this regard? sticks

RE: lipo cycle
I went ahead and charged the 3 cell 2600 Mah lipo pack, its 3 years old. I then discharged it in 50% storage mode and got 950 Mah. don't know what that means. I am going to charge one of my new ones and do the same thing. I will charge and then discharge to 3v first, and then do the 50% storage. don't know if I will get it done real soon. sticks

RE: lipo cycle
what about a discharge to the 50 % storage level. on a 2600 Mah pack 3 cell, would that tell if the pack has good capicity? If I get abou 1200 Mah at storage level, is that a good indication that the pack is still good? sticks

RE: lipo cycle
yes, your answers are what I am looking for. I bought a elect plane from a friend and the thunder power Lipo is 3 years old. He did not feel that you could cycle a lipo to check on remaining capacity. I see mine as being run between 3.7 v to 4.2v per cell, that is I don't want to go below 3.7v on a flight. I would think I should cycle down below 3.7 to see if there is still capacity left for safe flying? Just went back and read Jester, so 3v is a safe and effective level to go to? thanks sticks

ok, I have been getting into capacity with some my battery's and wondering about Lipo's. If you discharge down to get a capacity of a lipo, what voltage to you go to. sticks

I went to u tub and watched some of the Lipo's going up, that was a real eye opener. Then they showed a cheap Lipo bag burning, cheap may not be the way to go. I like the idea of the military ammo cans, they would be great for storage. But who do you run the wiring into it. sticks

welcome to the hobby, yes this is a great place for information. One point is, its a good idea to do a search on a question and see if it has been answered already. That saves on answering over and over and you still get great advice. sticks

RE: lipo fires
wow, if its like road flare that is bad. I was thinking , with all the metal I would not use the lipo bags. Guess thats a bad idea, with the metal and in a bag they should not catch the house on fire. The bags should keep it from the house. I am starting to use the A123's and glad to have them. One of the things no one said anything about is, How high do the flames get??? sticks

RE: lipo fires
Hi, thanks for the inputs! I agree with all said, I am just trying to add a layer of safety to it. I am setting up a all metal charging stations, shelves they are on and above are metal and stone. I have 3 lipo charging bags and don't intent to leave them charging alone. I have a 10 lb. fire extinguisher close by, do they work on lipo fires???? my main concern is getting us and the dog out, I have good insurance. sticks

lipo fires
Hi, I am setting up a charging station in my basement and am making it all out of metal. Just wondering about how violent a lipo fires can get, height, heat , etc. I have only had one lipo battery go bad and all it did was swell up and get very hot. I did a search and found nothing of how intense one of these fires can get. thanks sticks

Painting Question
Ok. I'm building a HOB 1/12 P-51. This plane has a one piece canopy and turtle deck. Because of this I would like to paint the plane instead of using an iron on film. I'm afraid the heat from the iron would distort the turtle deck. That being said, I need a nitro proof/resistant paint that will not attack the plastic turtle deck. I would like to do a silk and dope job but I would think the dope would attack the plastic as well. This is a small plane and I want to keep it as light as possible. How would you go about painting something like this , and what paint would you use that will not attack the turtle deck? Thanks for your help
