RE: CARF F4U-1 Corsair build thread
Hi Gary, Thanks for that. Yes I can understand you not wanting to use the turbulator, but on my Moki 215 it really has made a big improvement. Suppose I can always make a hinged access hatch at the front of the fus if necessary, to improve access to the adjustment screws. You starting a new thread for your latest Corsair ?? Regards Steve

RE: CARF F4U-1 Corsair build thread
Hi Gary + all you thread watchers - hope you can help. I have a used Moki 215, which I am bench testing, yet to fit to the Corsair. The engine has an APS pump and has been suffering from cold running/mis-firing No3 cylinder, which is fairly common I believe. I have fitted a Turbulator, bought from Dr Gotz Vogelsang at Aeroscale, which has virtually solved the problem. (The turbulator does what its name suggests - swirls the petrol vapour to provide a better and more consistent fuel flow to each cylinder). Hopefully there will be a couple of attachements, one showing Garys engine fit with spacers, and one showing the turbulator. However, the turbulator is around 50mm long. It fixes to the Moki engine, then the carb fixes to the turbulator - the result is that the carb will end up within the Corsair fuselage, making access to the H/L needle valves difficult. The only thing that I can think of is to cut an access hole, maybe a good 25mm diameter, in the fus top (under the cowl), and use a long screwdriver to adjust the needle valves somewhat "blind". Anybody used a turbulator or can suggest a fix ? Thanks - great thread Steve.

RE: MOKI RADIAL Care and Maintenence
Hi Ron, Think that we both fully agree - not much difference between the two plugs. I have now received the Denso U20M-U plug so will see if it helps. The only benefit that I can see is the "U" groove which is ground into the electrode - supposed to increase the engine performance, but we will see. Steve

RE: MOKI RADIAL Care and Maintenence
Hi guys, I have researched the plug situation directly with Denso and have had email correspondence from them regarding a hotter plug. The Denso U20M-U is a direct replacement for the NGK CM-6 and according to their specification has the same heat rating as the NGK, and is not a hotter plug. The Denso reference 20 (U20M-U) refers to the heat rating, which is the same as the NGK heat rating of 6 (NGK CM-6). Denso advise me that they do not have a hotter replacement for the U20M-U and, as has been mentioned in an earlier thread, they have now discontinued this plug due to low demand. According to Denso the FK (super ignitible plug) is not available in the size we need (FK is 14mm dia thread, we need 10mm dia). So - I do not think the U20M-U is much different to the NGK plug, although it might be a higher quality plug, hence the possible increased performance. Then again it might be all in the mind ? I have ordered a single U20M-U from a supplier here in the UK and see if this helps the No3 issue. Anybody have further information on this ? Regards, Steve

RE: MOKI RADIAL Care and Maintenence
ORIGINAL: crusier Ok Guys, I have a moki 215 6-7 years old bought from RCS. only finish the plane last year . I have 80 minutes of run time. Friday I was flying, great first fligh. Second flight not so great. Grinding noise throttled back engine quit. Went to turn it over by hand one place felt grinding. Removed front cover found brass gears. Three of the teeth stripped off dont know why. Engine came out of time valve damage and lifting rods damage on two cylinders. have not taken it apart any futher. First does anyone have a parts list, best place to buy parts? Anyone know how to time this motor. There is a timing mark on the steel primary gear what do you line this up with. Any info helpful thanks Bill
Hi Bill, If you have an early 215, are the cam lifters the ones with ball bearing ends ? If so one of the balls could have become detached and damaged the gears etc (see earlier thread on replacing these with lifters without ball bearings). My 215 has the ball bearing type, which I will replace. Just a thought. Steve

RE: Hangar 9 Beast
Hi Guys, Thanks for the advice re the MOKI 215. Guess I will need to keep looking for an airframe ! I need something preferably under the 20kg limit here in the UK, that's why the Beast was attractive. Most warbirds will probably be above 20kg with that moter - I could always dig deep and buy the smaller MOKI 150 !!!! Steve

Hi from the UK.. I have a Moki 215cc radial which I reckon would fit. Would sound fabulous too. Problem is it weighs 11lb including silencer. Any thoughts if it would be a good idea or a heavy dog to fly ??!! Regards Steve D

RE: 3W Bearcat Build - Oh Yeah!
Great looking Bearcat Mark. To the unininitiated - is this the 3W 100" Bearcat ? I am unsure if the Rare Bear being smaller at 88", is worth considering. Smaller wing, higher wing load etc. Have you guys experience of both ? Thanks Steve

RE: 3W Bearcat Build - Oh Yeah!
Hi Erich/Guys, Looking for a home for a MOKI 215 radial and picked up on this thread. I am considering the 3W Rare Bear but need an all up weight under 20kg, to avoid having to register this under the UK Large Model Scheme. With your experience is this achievable ? Thanks Steve D

RE: MOKI RADIAL Care and Maintenence
Help please guys. I bought a used Moki 215 and have been busy bench mounting it for testing. It came with the APS electric pump, 34x18 prop and SM Services kill switch so I have rigged it up to suit. Started it up today - 1st flick and she was away !! Sounds like it isnt firing on one of the cylinders and No3 runs very cool. Disconnected the No3 HT lead whist running and it didnt seem to change the engine note at all - so I am GUESSING No3 may be out. I am sure that this will have been covered somewhere in this thread, but what is the process of elimination ? I am guessing it will be check plug for spark first - if no spark check HT lead/plug cap then coil ?? Could there be other common issues with No3 ignition problems ? Thanks, Steve

RE: MOKI RADIAL Care and Maintenence
Hi Detlef/Radial users, Help please from anyone. I have a used Moki 215 and need 2 new pushrods. The replacements I have been supplied with are 3 to 4mm too long (originals are 76/77mm length, replacements 80mm). Can anyone supply the correct length ? Is it feasible to grind each end of the pushrod down by around 1.5mm, to achieve the correct length or will this destroy the hardening ? Thanks Steve D

RE: MOKI RADIAL Care and Maintenence
Hi Guys, Hope someone can help. I have a used MOKI 215cc radial, complete with APS 250A1 electric pump. As I am new to radials can anyone help with a user/operation manual for the MOKI and how to best connect the APS pump - I guess the pump runs at full power and the carb takes what it wants ie - no return line to the tank ?? Thanks Steve D (UK)
ORIGINAL: michaelsarysz 220 is excellent, watch your cross wind landings over 10 knots. elevator becomes very touchy in the ground fx . on windy days it helps to add a few ounces back in the nose, on less windy days, take it back out. Mike
Hi Mike, Can you (or anyone) confirm that the balance point is just behind (20mm behind) the wing fixing bolt holes, as this is approximately where I get the 220mm balance point to be. Thanks, Steve

Hi Icepilot, Could you tell me how you incorporate the water injectors to the afterburner light effect. Is it simply a smoke pump set up, using water to create the heat haze ? Thanks Steve

Martyn, Your idea of re-drilling the mounting plate seems to me to be the best idea and I intend to do the same. Question, Did you set the tailplane incidence to 0 degrees ie following the centreline of the wing or does it need a degree or so of positive ? Cheers Steve

RE: New afterburner ring and reflection
Hi Ice Pilot, Just seen your post re the triple after burner ring. I have just purchased the same from Airfighter, who are now marketing these instead of Flugmodellbau. Am I right in thinking that you can power it from a 7.4v Lipo or even 11v+?? At present I have tested it with a 4.8v 1200ma nicad pack, and its dul, dull, dull !! Cheers, Steve

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
Jon, I have mine at 6-1/4" back from LE and it's spot on. Have a few ounces of lead right up front in the nose and the 4.8v lighting battery. Flies with Wren XL200 turbine, 18/20mm elevator - and use flaps, particularly when landing and you can slow it right down Regards Steve
