i don't really give a crap about what anybody thinks or says. lets face it, we are talking about toy cars... thats what they are, just stupid toy cars. and some people here seem to be getting thier panties in a knot over a bunch of toys??? is just pathetic. what a sad life to live... a tragedy.

RE: rc car vs rc heli
ORIGINAL: tommygun32 Just a quick question....that rear plastic geared 'diff' or rear rotor 'transfer case' in stoya's pics.....is plastic better in a heli? Or is metal better?
typically at least one set of the gears on a torque tube are plastic, they are considered to be a consumable. if the tail blades touch the ground the plastic gear will strip. something has to give when the blades hit the ground, a small plastic gear is ideal becaue it is inexpensive. metal isn't really used very much for heli gears, mainly because metal is heavy, and the strength of metal is not needed like with r/c cars. in fact, i have never seen metal being used on torque tube gears at all, even for the largest 700 size helis. pic related, its a trex 700 tail.
and having it geared seriously low (or is it high, i always forget),
it would need to be geared high. low gearing is for stump pulling torque.

ya, traxxas is the best, tell me somethin i don't know. another thing to keep in mind is the cost of spare parts. traxxas spare parts are inexpensive, unlike some other brands that rape your wallet with the jacked up prices of their spare parts. its highway robbery.

RE: rc car vs rc heli
i was just chatting over at the heli forums and the tarot 450 pro looks like a good heli (align clone) its got a torque tube and the kicker is its only 99 bones@! u will need motor/esc/gyro/radio/servos. i could probably put together a decent combo for ya for less than 400 bones . the best part is u can use standard align trex 450 replacement parts because its an align clone!

well there is the stampede. of course there is 1/10 revo. for lipos you can get zippy's from hobbyking, i know they are very popular w/ r/c heli guys. for charger, i don't have much advice,i only have experience w/ thunder power 1010c. although i have heard good things about the cellpro line of chargers from fma. their lipos are also good (revolectrix) i know the heli guys use them. traxxas is a god choice, you basiclay cant go wrong w/ them.

RE: rc car vs rc heli
get a simulator first, i got realflight g3. I practiced on it for a couple months before I took my trex 450 out for its maiden flight. get an align heli, either trex 450 or 500. align has the best pilots, (szabo/krause) on their design team, so thier helis are top notch and 3D ready. trex 500 w/ the torque tube is my personal fav. there is a combo kit called "trex 500 esp" that includes a bunch of goodies, plus has a sweet looking canopy. if the 500 is out of your price range then get the 450. don't get the 250, its too much of a handful for beginners. tiny heli's are harder to fly thatn larger ones.
