RE: Need Modellbau V3 Tornado Input
ORIGINAL: PHall To start I would like to keep this post focused. With that said, I received my Tornado today. And I have a few questions. 1) Are those little "Robart" style hinges going to work? They look a little small. 2) The left wing incidence is not correct assuming the wing profile should match the fuselage. Fix it or leave it alone?
If I received the kit, and noticed the poor wing alignment, I'd send it back........not acceptable IN MY VIEW Stuart

RE: Elan Has Arrived!
Quote - As the Elan looks like a sexy plane don't be fooled by it. The defects that this kit offers for the dollar is a joke and consumers need to be aware be prepare to cut drill grind glue and fix defects , Quick to cut you down for bad mouthing this plane WILL BE QUICK TO DEFFEND THE SUPPLIER WHICH CLEARLY DON'T TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILTY FOR A KIT IF IT IS DEFECTIVE BUT MAKE SURGUESTIONS WHICH DON;T WORK and only hope you cut into it so they can wave off warranty I don't really agree with your statement there, since earlier in this thread (or the other Elan one...can't remember) there was a guy who bought an Elan kit (white scheme) where one of the booms was massively out of alignment. The supplier of the kit sorted him out pretty quickly, I think he was pretty satisfied, so I can't really justify your attack on Boomerang Jets. Certainly in the UK, Colin G at Boomerang jets has been very helpful with any queries I've had Stuart

RE: BOOMERANG ELAN - New Build & Setup Thread!
Hi Eric thanks, your 12.5mm figure is a lot less than 20mm - which Dave W thought but wasn't totally sure Did your nose leg come out within the cut-out lines marked on that nose cover ? I've noticed looking around that some people's legs come out right up the front, and others within the cut-out Thanks Stuart

Hi Eric, I'm also building an elan at the moment, it's my first jet build. Like yourself, I have trailing link retracts, are yours Jet1A ? I was wondering if you know exactly how thick a spacer you needed under the front retract ? Thanks Stuart

RE: BOOMERANG ELAN - New Build & Setup Thread!
I have recently installed the flaps on my Elan.....also came across the poor alignment problem. The slots in the flaps themselves are in the correct position, but completely wrong in the trailing edge of the wing ! I used pinned hinges for the flaps. I installed one half of the hinge into the flap, then painted the hinge with ink, and pushed the flap onto the wing. The ink leaves a mark on the wing for the correct position of the slot. I then cut the slots in the wing with a dremel cutting disk, and opened out with a thin flat file. Stuart

RE: Elan Has Arrived!
Hi all, I have just recently bought an Elan from Dave W at Motors & Rotors, who I have dealt with for a while now. I like being able to get advice from someone who knows what they are doing when it comes to jets This is my first jet model so bit of a learning curve for me, but I'm looking forward to the build/assembly. I have a Jetcat P80 V5.0 (20lbs) to install, along with the Sullivan 125oz tank made for Boomerang jets. I plan to use JR servos all round, 8411's on Ailerons and 8321's everywhere else......well maybe 579 on nosewheel steering ! Powerbox Sensor switch seems to be popular among jets this size, so I will go with that. I'm now saving some funds to buy the Jet1A retract set, really looking forward to getting those ! I've not had the kit long, but I'm impressed with the fit & finish of the wings/booms etc, and also the paint finish is nice too ! Looking forward to reading through this thread, and seeing peoples neat installations...........I need to copy one of them ! Stuart

Habu 32 Pilot
I have just finished building a Habu 32 EDF, and the cockpit is empty at the moment. I've seen the standard pilot (parkzone I think), but I'm not that keen.......and would like something different. Can anyone recommend a nice jet pilot for the cockpit ? Thanks Stuart

RE: E-Flite Habu 32 EDF
Well finally got the rest of the parts needed to complete the model, and found some time to actually do it ! I chose the E-flite 80A ESC, but did not use the BEC because there are rumours that it cannot handle 7-8 servos, plus the fan at full chat. I removed the EC5 connector on the controller and (with help from a friend..thanks Jim) soldered a Deans connector. I also removed the RED wire from the BEC/Thro lead that goes into the Rx, this prevents the ESC powering the Rx. I installed the ESC slightly forward of the manual position, it was neater and left me room to put a remote Rx aerial in the "V" of the intake ducts. Powerbox Digiswitch was then installed, with 1000mAh 2S lipo. I used velcro to hold the lipo onto the fuselage side. Last of all the JR1221 2.4 Rx was installed, with 2 remote Rx's (a mininum according to JR). I put spiral wrap on the wiring I could get access to. By using the 12ch Rx, I could put the nosewheel steering servo on a separate channel, and then disable the steering when the gear is retracted...........JR DSX12 I setup my control movements as per Motors & Rotors recommendation, apart from slightly less travel on full flaps. I also set the ESC cell count to 6S, all the other settings on the ESC were left as standard. The model balanced slightly nose down at 110mm, this is roughly middle of the range, so will see how it flies Stoneenforcer, yes the tam struts are nice, but I didn't want to add more weight. Will fly on 6S first, its supposed to be as quick as the P20SE version Weather here in Scotland is terrible, 5 degrees, rain and very windy, so will be a while before I fly my Habu. Enjoyed the build though

RE: E-Flite Habu 32 EDF
Finally got some spare time this afternoon & evening to do some more Habu ! Nosewheel steering linkage installed and centred. I may now use a JR 1221 Rx, and run a separate channel for nosewheel steering, so I can inhibit the steering when the gear is retracted - it just saves so much "faffing" setting it up in sync with the rudder (if you decide to use a Y-Lead....i'm not keen) I still have to trim the nose retract wheel bay cover, it just needs minor trimming. Rudder servo was next - I used a Graupner 361 (JR 362 equivilant....but much cheaper ), also fitted a JR Super servo arm and 650mm extension lead. The rudder horn alignment issue has been mentioned on other threads, mine was "ok", but not perfect (see pics). I fitted the clevis' anyway, but may change it to a ball link. Next up were the elevator servos - JR331's were used here, with a horn similar to the one used in the manual. This all went together perfectly, with both pushrods coming down the guides straight onto the servo arms. I loved the supports for the pushrod guides, they really work and stiffen up the assembly ! All of the hardware included in the kit was used here, I am impressed with the hardware....ALL of it can be used which is brilliant. Fan installed, this was easy as I had trial fitted it at the beginning of the build. Although I did have to remove the LH Elev pushrod support to get the fan installed. The thrust tube was trimmed earlier in the build, so simply slide it down the tail, and tape in position :-) Now just waiting on remaining parts to finish, Royal Mail have some work to do ! Stuart P.S pics will not upload , try in the morning !

RE: E-Flite Habu 32 EDF
Some spare time this evening so got a little bit more done ! Was far too nice a day to waste building, I went out flying 11am till 5pm ! Main retracts installed and tested out . This was fairly easy, as the mounts are designed exactly to fit the E-Flite units. I only added a 100mm extension lead to each retract unit to ensure the lead got through to the wing root !. Covering cut away and ironed down (this took the most time), the wells are quite small so a tacking iron would be better for this job...I dont have one ! Holes drilled, a few drops of CA in, left to dry. The legs included with the kit are the perfect length for the retracts, so I installed these (with loctite on the grub screws). A good quality file is needed, to file a flat on the leg axel where the collet "nips" on. Retract units nailed in ! Few cycles to check clearance, one of my legs needed a "tweak" forward............job done ! Stuart

Dave, Nice paint job :-) I'm only guessing, but is the colour scheme inspired by a BVM Bandit ? What kind of paint did you use ? Automotive type and lacquer over ? My build had stopped for the moment since we have an "Indian Summer" here in Scotland for a few days, so I can go flying Stuart

RE: E-Flite Habu 32 EDF
Well after another 12hr shift at work, I found a little time yesterday evening to glue the remaining wing spar in. I was more cautious this time, as the first time round I almost glued the wing to the fuz. I used Vaseline as suggested on the fuz, but never bothered with any on the wing spar. Result = when the glue dried, I had to give the wing a good tug to remove it :-(. Some glue must have run down from inside the wing, where the spar exits the rib So 2nd time round I made sure everything was well coated in vaseline The spar fitted great, although I had the same small gap along the underside surface of the wing/fuz joint (as per the first wing). I kept the stand close to the edge of the bench so the opposite wing could be installed for checking the alignment.........this turned out to be spot on...I was impressed. Again I left it all overnight to dry, and removed it when I got home from work tonight. It came off really easily. I'm really impressed with this part of the build because it all fitted and lined up perfectly Retracts next ! Stuart P.S again Pic uploader not working ! Grrr !

RE: E-Flite Habu 32 EDF
Dave, What got you into thinking about repainting your Habu 32 ? What kind of paints are you using ? Looks like a decent finish :-) A bit more work done on mine yesterday. Flap hatches assembled and servos mounted. I set up the linkages to give the travel recommended in the manual, but because I modified the flap horns, there's room for much more travel. Pulling the extension leads through the wings was a real pain ! I didn't pull both leads through as the manual suggests, but instead cut the string in half and pulled each lead through individually Once all this was complete, I decided to assemble and glue one of the wing spars. Exactly as per the manual, using Vaseline on the fuz around the slot for the spar (so you don't accidentally glue the wing on). My 9/64 ball driver was handy for tightening the bolts inside the fuz while the glue set. I left this overnight to go off. I have a small gap between the wing and fuz along the bottom, with the wing in place sitting naturally. I spoke to Dave Wilshere at Motors & Rotors (where I bought the kit from) - he says this is common on this model, infact his prototype Habu has this gap also Pics.....not working so I'll try later ! RE: E-Flite Habu 32 EDF
A box of goodies arrived today from Motors & Rotors in London :-) JR 331 Servos, JR/Graupner 361 servo....and all the extension leads needed, correct length too ! Just waiting on a servo for the nosewheel steering. This has to be opposite rotation to work correctly with the Rudder servo Y-lead, but this can go in at the last minute. So tonight I assembled both Aileron hatches/mounts, installed the servos with 100mm extension leads. The linkages took the most time, as my clevises were reluctant to close ! Oh and a 4mm spanner is much better for tightening the locknuts.......bit gash using long nose pliers as instructions suggest Stuart
