RE: Total Lack Of Respect
ORIGINAL: crose [:@]Its a shame that people have become so disrespectful to the ones who have fought, bleed, and died for their rights and freedome. I was brought up to respect all military personnel. Most of my Uncles and grandfathers fought in the wars. We should have understood when they passed the law allowing the burning of the American flag how people have changed. I guess they will only learn when the enamy is on our doorsteps. Tamiya F-350 tire question
Guys, Ok, this sounds like a simple question. I am looking to upgrade the tires on my newly purchased F-350. I have been looking but am unsure as to the size of the hex and the actual size of tires. Is the stock setup a 12mm hex and 1.9 wheels/tires? If so, what do those measurements pertain to? I figured you guys would be able to answer that question right off so any help is appreciated. Thanks! Pete

RE: Engel Submarine Kit Builder
John, Engel uses a very simple brass tube that goes from the inside of the wtc to the outside. It is made so that the shaft will slip into it and exit the wtc. Over that is a vinyl(?) tube that fits over the shaft seal, thus encasing it in the wet space. They are specific about the length of the tubing. It is a simple but very reliable setup. I have been using them for years without any problems. Eventually, the tubing will get old and you simply cut it off and replace it with a new piece. I have also used simmering seals on some of my subs, they work fine but are a bit more tricky to set up. hope that helps, Pete

Hi, A simple two channel radio will supply your basic needs. (throttle and steering) Should you decide to add working features or say, independant throttle control then you would need more channels. It all depends on what you want to do with the models and (more importantly) how deep your pockets are. Pete

Hi, I have used JJC sounds in the past. I like them, although they tend to be somewhat pricey. Ralph at RAM is probably your best bet. Give him a call and he will set you up, no problem. If you have a specific sound he can digitize it for you and flash it to a chip for you. I don't know what that costs. Like I said, give Ralph a call. Pete

RE: Michael Jackson R.I.P
Hi, I had the opportunity to see his show in the mid 80's. I got some great(main floor about 7 rows back) tickets given to me and took my girlfriend (at the time) and her sister to the Rosemont Horizon to see him. I worked for a Pepsi distributor at the time and Pepsi sponsered his tour. Although I never was and still am not a fan of him, he did put on a great show. More than a concert, he put on a show. Lots of magic, illusions, live music videos, etc. I am sorry to see him dead, as I wish that on no one but I also feel his personal life overshadowed his professional career. Weird is not an adequate description. In the end he became a walking caracture of his own self. So, sorry to see him pass on but I do not feel sorry for him or pity him. He made his own bed and now he lies in it. RIP I also find it ironic that Farrah Fawcett dies the same day and more or less is not mentioned. Even more ironic is right here by me an entire family (2 adults and three children) are burned and crushed to death in their pickup, which was crushed between a moving (65MPH+) semi and a semi that was stopped for another accident. Apparently the semi and the pickup were both stopped waiting for an accident on the interstate to be cleared when another semi came over a hill, didn't see the stopped traffic and went right into the back of the pickup which then pushed it into the back of the stopped semi, bursting into flames. To me, that is a tragedy of unimaginable proportions. Yet, the news hardly made mention of it. The news was (and is) covering all about Jacksons death and the fans reaction, etc. Kind of sick really, if you think about it. Well, thats my two cents worth. I will get off the soap box now. Pete

RE: Dumas Donzi Z-65 Power Options
Matt, Brushless motors would certainly be an interesting option. You would have to figure out how to cool them but they would be very efficient. I built a Donzi a few years back and used Astro-Flight 25's. More than enough power and had a nice scalelike hum, sorta like twin diesels. If I were to build another I would use exactly the same setup. Just my 2 cents worth anyway. Pete

RE: ballast tank pump help needed
Hi, I am assuming that you are using a ballast tank to compress air and fill with water. Graupner makes pumps for that. To empty the tank, just release a valve and the air pressure will force the water from the tank. No need for any fancy reversing switches, etc. Thats how Chris Cloke does it with his Sheerline subs. Works pretty well. Pete

RE: DD557 USS Johnston, anchors, armament
Robert, Like most Fletchers, or any ship for that matter, they routinely went upgrades and refits. She was lost in the Battle of Leyte Gulf in 1944 so it could be assumed that she still had most, if not all of her original armament. (6-40 MM and 11-20 MM) As for the anchors, routinely DD's removed one anchor to save weight. The pictures I see show anchors on both sides of the ship. hope that helps, Pete

AH1-W Cobra Gulf War colors
Guys, I am drawing a blank here. I am a veteran of Gulf War V1.0 and am building a Hirobo AH1-W Cobra helo. My intention is to paint it in the sand camo colors of the Gulf War. Most units there had them painted either in the all grey or the grey, green, black pattern. I want to do something different. You would think it would be easy to find the FS numbers but thus far, I have struck out. Any one got any ideas? I saw many of them in country over in the big sand box and could draw the patterns in my sleep. However, I am not having any luck with the paint numbers. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks! Pete

RE: Donzi Z65
Hi, Although some would disagree with me, polyester resin is what you want to use. Sig makes some pretty good stuff. The Dumas hulls are (or were) layed up using polyester & fiberglass. Epoxy will work, and doesn't have the terrible smell that polyester has (smells like a body shop) but in my experience doesn't work as well. Just remember to rough up any portions with a dremel or sandpaper you plan on joining. That way, it will get a good bite. If you are looking to install the stuffing boxes, bondo from an auto parts store works well. I prefer the stuff that is reinforced with fiberglass strands (extra strong) but regular old bondo works well. Resin will join the f/g hull and wooden deck quite well. Just place the deck where you want it, secure thouroghly using tape and make a few pours of resin with the hull turned upside down. For a boat the size of the Donzi, I would probably mix up about 4 ounces of resin at a time. You can tell when the resin kicks off as it will heat up. Usually it heats up within 20 minutes or so. If you have any noticable gaps you can put modeling clay over those gaps and it will seal up the holes until the resin sets. Make several pours, and when you are sure you have all the deck joined to the hull you are done. Clean up whatever spilled out. Usually, the resin that spills out on the outside will not stick to the gel coat due to the wax used in the molding process, making it easier to clean up. At least thats how I join the decks on any fiberglass hulls. Works very well for me.

RE: LINDBERG PT-109 MOTORS
Franklyn, Hi from a fellow Navy vet (HM-1). Well, you could do that but I would be concerned about weight. The Lindberg PT's I have had all have had weight management issues (don't we all) I would think it would be better to purchase one battery pack and use that. Tower Hobbies or any reputable hobby shop can help you there. The newest packs have a 5000Mah rating so it would be equivalent to 5 of the radio shack batterys. Here is but one example, there are tons of them to choose from http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXTAR9&P=ML Using one battery pack would certainly keep the weight to a manageable level and would greatly simplify wiring the old PT up. Not to mention, if you bought a couple of them you could swap them out and double your run times. Pete

RE: How to improve underwater RF reception?
ORIGINAL: Starkbone McGarvey Hi Robert. The problem is the aeroplane failsafe will let you go a few inches down and then operate. Tony Fitzpatrick
Tony, I understand the thinking behind that and I do not disagree with you. However, with that said, I have been using failsafes (Futaba, Venom, others) that indeed were designed for cars, boats etc for years and have yet to experience the problems you are speaking of. They all seem to be fairly bulletproof in my opinion. However, use them at your own risk. Pete

RE: Radio Help
Hi, I use a 9CAP on 75Mhz that unfortunatly is discontinued. Here is a 7CAP on 75Mhz http://www.robotcombat.com/products/TX-FUT-7CAP-75.html Just make sure that if you buy a PCM radio you use it only on FM, not PCM modulation. A PCM reciever when it loses contact will freeze all controls in your sub, thereby preventing any safety systems you have from operating. Also, you have the option of purchasing a 72Mhz radio and sending it to Futaba for them to convert it to 75Mhz. Check with their service techs to find out which ones they can convert. Pete

Hi, I agree, parts are getting tougher and tougher... too bad to. I had a Legato (Nexus with an OS52 4 stroke) that I loved to fly. I did a few tweaks with it ( a few carbon parts and a fuel pump for the engine) and that heli was about my favorite to fly. I ended up selling it a couple of years ago just for that reason. I was afraid I would eventually wear out something that I would not be able to replace. If I could find a steady stream of parts I would have kept it, no doubt. Very smooth and I loved the sound of that little 4 stroke. Pete
